7 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a particular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3).
8 ENGLISH 3 T une in to a station you want while “ M ” (manual) is still flashing. • If you release y our finger from the button, the manual mode will automatically turns off after 5 seconds. • If you hold do wn the button, the frequency keeps changing (in 50 kHz intervals f or FM and 9 kHz inter v als for AM) until y ou release the button.
9 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM) manually . Ex.: Storing FM station of 92.5 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band. 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM) you want to store stations into (in this example, FM1).
10 ENGLISH T APE OPERA TIONS Listening to a cassette Y ou can play back type I (normal) tapes. 1 Insert a cassette into the cassette compartment. The unit turns on and tape play starts automatically .
11 ENGLISH Ex.: When you locate three tunes ahead of the current tune Finding the beginning of a tune Multi Music Scan (MMS) allows y ou to automatically star t pla yback from the beginning of a specified tune. Y ou can specify up to 9 tunes ahead of or before the current tune .
12 ENGLISH Prohibiting cassette ejection Y ou can prohibit cassette ejection and lock a cassette in the cassette compar tment. While pressing T APE 23 , press and hold 0 (eject) f or more than 2 seconds. “NO EJECT” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the cassette is loc ked and cannot be ejected.
13 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound character istics to your preference . 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the button, the adjustab le items change as follo ws: Indication T o do: Range BAS Adjust the bass.
14 ENGLISH Selecting preset sound modes Y ou can select a preset sound adjustment suitable to the m usic genre. Select the sound mode you want. Each time you press the b utton, the sound mode changes .
15 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Selecting the level meter —LEVEL Y ou can select the level meter displa y according to your pref erence. When shipped from the factory , “AUDIO 2” is selected. 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds.
16 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
17 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommend that y ou use the JVC MP3- compatible CD changer with y our unit. By using this CD changer , you can pla y back your original CD-Rs (Recordable) and CD-R Ws (Rewritable) recorded either in audio CD f ormat or in MP3 format.
18 ENGLISH Connecting the CD changer Before connecting the CD changer • T o prev ent shor t circuits, it is recommended to disconnect the car battery’s negativ e terminal and make all electrical connections bef ore connecting the CD changer . • When mounting the unit remov ed from your car , be sure to use the screws pro vided, as instructed.
19 ENGLISH T o fast-forward or reverse the track/file T o skip to the next or previous tracks/files T o skip to the next or previous folder (only for MP3 discs) 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while pla ying an MP3 disc. 2 Press ¢ or 4 while still in the functions mode.
20 ENGLISH T o play back tracks/files repeatedly (T rack Repeat/Disc Repeat Play) 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode during play . 2 Press RPT (repeat), while still in the functions mode, so that “TRK RPT” or “DISC RPT” appears on the display .
21 ENGLISH L R R LL R L R EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Playing an external component Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the JVC Line Input Adapter KS-U57 (not supplied). Preparations: • F or connecting the Line Input Adapter KS-U57 and the external component, see below .
22 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the follo wing points before calling a service center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections. While holding SEL (select), press (standby/on/ attenuator) f or more than 2 seconds to reset the unit.
23 ENGLISH Remedies Inser t discs into the magazine. Inser t discs correctly . Inser t pla yable discs. Inser t a disc that contains MP3 files. Inser t the magazine. Connect this unit and the CD changer correctly and press the reset button of the CD changer .
24 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE This unit requires very little attention, but y ou will be able to e xtend the life of the unit if y ou follo w the instructions below . T o clean the head • Clean the heads after ev ery 10 hours of use using a wet-type head cleaning tape (a vailable at an audio store).
