8 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or man ual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3).
9 ENGLISH Searching a station manually: Manual search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). Note: This receiver has thr ee FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3). Y ou can use any one of them to listen to an FM br oadcast. 2 Press and hold ¢ or 4 until “MANU” (manual) starts flashing on the display .
10 ENGLISH Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the f ollowing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory . • Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong- station Sequential Me.
11 ENGLISH T uning in to a preset station Y ou can easily tune in to a preset station. Remember that y ou must store stations first. If y ou hav e not stored them yet, see “Stor ing stations in memory” on pages 10 and 11. 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
12 ENGLISH What you can do with RDS RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular programme signals . F or e xample, the stations send their station names, as well as inf ormation about what type of programme they broadcast, such as spor ts or music, etc.
13 ENGLISH 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the display . (PSM: see page 33.) 2 Select “AF-REG (alternative frequency/regionalization reception)” if not shown on the display . 3 Select the desired mode – “AF ,” “AF REG” or “OFF .
14 ENGLISH Using PTY Standby Reception PTY Standby Reception allo ws the unit to switch temporarily to your f avourite prog ramme (PTY : Programme T ype) from the current source (another FM station, CD or other connected components). • PTY Standby Reception will not work if you ar e listening to an AM station.
15 ENGLISH Searching your favourite programme Y ou can search any one of the PTY codes . In addition, you can store y our 6 fav ourite programme types in the number b uttons. When shipped from the factory , the following 6 programme types ha v e been stored in the number buttons (1 to 6).
16 ENGLISH Other convenient RDS functions and adjustments Changing the display mode while listening to an FM station Y ou can change the initial indication on the displa y to station name (PS NAME) or station frequency (FREQ) while listening to an FM RDS station.
17 ENGLISH Automatic selection of the station when using the number buttons Usually when you press the n umber button, the preset station is tuned in. Howe ver , when the preset station is an RDS station, something diff erent will happen.

19 ENGLISH Playing a CD 1 Open the control panel. 2 Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws a disc and starts playbac k automatically . 3 Close the control panel by hand. 20 ENGLISH T o stop play and eject the disc Press 0 . CD play stops , the control panel opens, then the disc automatically ejects from the loading slot.
21 ENGLISH T o play back tracks r epeatedly (Repeat Play) Y ou can pla y back the current trac k repeatedly . 1 Press MODE (M) to enter the functions mode while playing a disc. “MODE” appears on the upper par t of the display , and the number buttons work as different function buttons.
22 ENGLISH Prohibiting CD ejection Y ou can prohibit CD ejection and can loc k a disc in the loading slot. While pressing CD/CD-CH, press and hold for more than 2 seconds. “NO EJECT” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the disc is loc ked and cannot be ejected.
23 ENGLISH MP3 INTRODUCTION How are MP3 files recorded and played back? MP3 “ files (tracks) ” can be recorded in “ directories (folders) ”—in PC terminology . During recording, the files and directories can be arranged in a wa y similar to arranging files and directories/folders of computer data.

27 ENGLISH T o go to a particular director y directly IMPORT ANT : T o directly select the directories using the number b utton(s), it is required that directories are assigned 2 digit numbers at the beginning of their director y names. (This can only be done during the recording of CD-Rs or CD-RWs .

34 ENGLISH T o set Custom Equalizer Link – CEQ LINK A different sound mode (C-EQ) can be stored in memory for each source so that you can change the sound modes simply by changing the sources . When shipped from the factory , this mode is deactivated.
35 ENGLISH T o turn on/off the key-touch tone – BEEP Y ou can deactiv ate the key-touch tone if y ou do not want it to beep each time y ou press a button. When shipped from the f actor y , the key-touch tone is activated. • ON: Activates the k ey-touch tone.
36 ENGLISH 4 Move the cursor to the next (or previous) character position. 5 Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you finish inputting the name. 6 Finish the procedure while the last selected character is flashing. T o erase the input characters Inser t spaces using the same procedure described above .
37 ENGLISH Attaching the control panel 1 Insert the right side of the control panel into the groove on the panel holder . 2 Press the left side of the control panel to fix it to the panel holder . Note on cleaning the connectors: If you frequently detac h the contr ol panel, the connectors will deteriorate .
38 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS W e recommend that you use one of the CH-X series with your unit. If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections. • F or example, if your CD automatic chang er is one of the KD-MK series, you need a cor d (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.
39 ENGLISH T o go to a particular disc directly Press the number b utton corresponding to the disc number to start its playback (while the CD changer is pla ying). • T o select a disc number from 1 – 6: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly . • T o select a disc number from 7 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) f or more than 1 second.

ENGLISH 41 EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Aux input Playing an external component Y ou can connect the e xternal component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 (not supplied).
ENGLISH 42 We recommend that y ou use DAB (Digital A udio Broadcasting) tuner KT -DB1500 with y our unit. If you ha ve another D AB tuner , consult your JVC IN-CAR ENTER T AINMENT dealer . • Refer also to the Instructions supplied with y our D AB tuner.
ENGLISH 43 T o change the display information while tuning in to an ensemble Normally ser vice name is shown on the displa y . If you want to change the displa y information, press DISP (D). Each time you press the button, the follo wing information appears on the displa y for a while.
ENGLISH 44 Storing DAB services in memory Y ou can preset up to 6 D AB services in each DAB band (D AB1, DAB2 and D AB3) manually . 1 Select the DAB tuner . Each time you press and hold the button, the D AB tuner and the FM/AM tuner are alternately selected.

46 ENGLISH Remedies Stop playbac k while driving on rough roads. Change the disc. Check the cords and connections. Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections. Inser t the disc correctly . • Insert a finalized CD-R/CD-RW . • Finalize the CD-R/CD-R W with the component which you used f or recording.
47 ENGLISH Causes No disc in the magazine. This unit is not connected to a CD changer correctly . MP3 files do not hav e the extension code—mp3 in their file names. MP3 files are not recorded in the format compliant with ISO 9660 Lev el 1, ISO 9660 Lev el 2, or Joliet.
48 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Handling CDs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs, CD-R Ws and CD T ext. Only f or KD-LH7R: • Y ou can also pla y back MP3 discs. How to handle discs When removing a disc from its case, press do wn the center holder of the case and lift the disc out, holding it b y the edges.
