6 IMPORT ANT SAFE GUARD S In the event of signs of damage , for ex ample if there is a smell of burning, unplug the machine immediately from outlet and contact JURA customer service.
7 IMPORT ANT SAFE GUARD S Z Never fill an ything other than coffee beans into the bean con- tainer (no chocolate , no rice , no nuts, no spices, nothing other than roasted coffee beans). Z Never fill fro zen beans into the bean c ontainer . If y ou store beans in the freezer , let them thaw 3 to 4 hours before filling them into the bean container .

11 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Remove an y dirt or foreign object s from inside the bean container . T Fill the bean c ontainer with coffee beans, then close the aroma preservation cover and the bean c ontainer cover . If the machine is oper ated with a defective pow er cord, there is a danger of potentially fatal electric shock.
12 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Switch. ‘Machine is rinsing. ’ , the machine rinses. The oper ation stops automatically . ‘Please select produc t:’ appears on the display .
13 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Open the filter holder and inser t the filter cartridge into the wat er tank, exerting slight pressure. T Close the filter holder . It will click into place audibly . E After t wo months, the filter will ce ase to work.
14 1 Preparing and using for the first time E If you are using the CLEARYL Blue filter cartridge and have activated it in progr amming mode, y ou will not be able to adjust the wat er hardness. The harder the wat er is, the more frequently the IMPRESSA needs to be descaled.
15 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Press the ‘Save ’ button. ‘Saved ’ appears briefly on the display to confirm the setting. ‘Maintenance settings (3/6)’ O T Press the P button to exit programming mode .
16 2 Preparation 2 Preparation Hot coffee , hot steam and hot w ater can cause scalding. Scalding is a serious burn. T Use extreme care when handling hot liquid or steam. T Allow liquid to c ool down before drinking. T In the event of scalding, rinse aff ected area with cold water and seek medical attention.

18 2 Preparation E Proceed as follows t o prepare two cups of coffee at the touc h of a button: Place two cups under the c offee spout. Press the ‘Coffee’ button twice (within two seconds) to star t coffee preparation. Y our IMPRESSA can prepare a latt e macchiat o or cappuccino at the touch of a button.
19 2 Preparation Example : Proceed as follow s to prepare milk foam. T Remov e the protective co ver from the cappuccino frother . T Att ach the milk pipe to the cappucc ino frother . Use the long pipe for a milk carton and the shor t pipe for a milk container .
20 2 Preparation E The desired specialty coffee mu st be prepared within approx - imately one minute after filling with the ground coffee . Oth- erwise the IMPRESSA stops the oper ation and is once more ready for use . All specialty coffees with ground coffee are prepared f ollowing this model.

22 3 Daily operation 3 Daily operation When the IMPRESSA is swit ched on, it automatically prompts you to perform the rinse operation. Start the rinse operation b y pressing the Rotary Switch k . In progr amming mode you can c hange this setting so that the machine start s the switch-on rinse automatically .

36 5 Maintenance E After 2000 oz (60 liters) of water ha ve flow ed through, the fil- ter will cease to w ork. Y our IMPRESSA will automatically prompt you to c hange the filter . E After t wo months, the filter will ce ase to work. Y ou can check the elapsed time by ref erring to the date plate on the filter holder in the wat er tank.
37 5 Maintenance E Y ou can interrupt rinsing of the filt er at any time b y pressing any button. Press the R otar y Switc h k to continue rinsing of the filter . E The water ma y be slightly discolored. This is not harmful to health and does not affect the taste.
38 5 Maintenance E If you do not w ant to star t cleaning just yet, press the ‘ ’ but - ton. The prompt ‘Clean machine ’ remains active. T Press the ‘Next’ button. ‘Empty coffee grounds container’ T Empty the drip tray and coff ee grounds container and put them back into the machine .

40 5 Maintenance T Completely dissolve the contents of one blister (three JURA descaling tablet s) in a receptacle holding 17 oz (500 ml) of wat er . This may take sever al minutes. T Pour the solution into the empty water tank and insert it into the machine .
