4 Import ant Safeguards These safeguards apply for machine s with UL safety test (see r ating plate and chapter 9 ‘T echnical data’). When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should alwa ys be follow ed, to reduce the risk of fire , electric shock, and/or injury to per sons, including the follo wing: Read all instructions.
5 Import ant Safeguards a. A shor t power supply cord is pro vided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Y our IMPRESSA has a 3-pin grounded plug. b. Longer extension cords are available and ma y be used if care is exercised in their use .

11 Important information There is a risk of scalds or burns on the spouts and the cappuccino frother . Place the machine out of the reach of c hildren. U Do not touch any hot parts. Use the handles provided. U Ensure that the cappuccino frother is correctly fitted and U clean.

14 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Open the bean cont ainer cov er and remov e the aroma pres- ervation cov er . T Remo ve any dirt or foreign objects from inside the bean container . T Fill the bean container with coffee beans, then close the aroma preservation cover and the bean c ontainer cover .
15 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y our IMPRESSA no longer has to be descaled if y ou are using the CLARIS Blue filter cartridge. Perform the ‘inserting the filter’ operation without any inter - E ruptions. This will ensure that your IMPRES SA alw ays produces its best.
16 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y ou can interrupt rinsing of the filter at any time b y pressing E any button. Press the Maintenanc e button c to c ontinue rins- ing of the filter . The wat er may be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful t o E health and does not affect the taste.

19 2 Preparation Y our IMPRESSA can prepare a latt e macc hiato or cappuccino at the touch of a button. There is no need to mo ve the glass or c up. Example : Proceed as follo ws to prep are one latte macc hiato. T Attach the milk pipe to the cappuccino frother .
20 2 Preparation Example : Proceed as follo ws to prepare milk foam. T Attach the milk pipe to the cappuccino frother . Use the long pipe for a milk carton/bottle and the shor t pipe for the milk container . T Inser t the other end of the milk pipe into a milk carton/bot - tle or connect it to the milk container .
21 2 Preparation Example : Proceed as follows t o prep are an espresso using pre- ground coffee . T Place an espresso cup under the coffee spout. T Open the cover of the bean container .

23 3 Daily operation 3 Daily operation When the IMPRESSA is swit ched on, it automatically prompts you to perform the rinse operation. Start the rinse operation b y pressing the Maintenance button c .
24 3 Daily operation When you switc h your IMPRES SA off , the spouts used to prepare a speciality coffee are rinsed. T Place a receptacle under the c offee spout and another under the cappuccino frother . Q T Press the On/Off button. GOODBYE , the spouts used to prepare a specialit y coffee or milk are rinsed.

The bar shows the current maint enance status. When the bar is com- pletely filled, your IMP RESSA will request the respective main- tenance progr amme .

36 5 Maintenance 5 Maintenance Y our IMPRESSA has the follo wing integr ated maintenance pro- grammes : Cleaning the cappuccino frother U Rinsing the cappuccino frother U Changing the filter U Cleanin.
37 5 Maintenance After each milk preparation, the IMPRES SA prompts you to run a cappuccino rinse . Precondition: COFFEE READY / CAPPU RINSE is display ed and the Maintenance button c lights up. T Place a receptacle under the cappuccino frother . c T Press the Maintenance button.
38 5 Maintenance T Place another receptacle under the cappuccino frother . c T Press the Maintenance button. CAPPUCCINO CLEANING , the cappuccino frother and the pipe are cleaned. WATER FOR CAPPUCCINO / PRESS BUTTON T Rinse the receptacle thoroughly , fill it with 250 ml of fresh wat er and immerse the milk pipe in the water .
39 5 Maintenance If you do not w ant to start changing the filter just yet, turn the E Rotary Switch until CHANGE / START NO is displayed. Press the Rotary Switch to exit the maintenanc e programme . The prompt to change the filter remains active . c T Press the Maintenance button.
40 5 Maintenance The cleaning progr amme lasts approximately 20 minutes. E Do not interrupt the cleaning progr amme . The quality of E cleaning will be impaired if you do so . JURA cleaning tablets are available from stockists. E Precondition: COFFEE READY / CLEAN is displayed and the Maintenance button c lights up.
41 5 Maintenance The IMPRESSA builds up depo sits of limescale over time and auto- matically prompts you to descale it when necessary. The degree of calcification depends on the hardness of your w ater . If the descaling agent comes into contact with the skin or eyes, this can cause irritation.
42 5 Maintenance c T Press the Maintenance button. TRAY / GROUNDS EMPTY T Empt y the drip tray and c offee grounds container and put them back into the machine . SOLVENT IN TANK T Remov e and empty the water tank. T Completely dissolve the contents of one blister (three JURA descaling tablet s) in a receptacle holding 600 ml of wat er .
43 5 Maintenance UNIT IS HEATING , RINSING , w ater flows out of the coffee spout. The operation st ops automatically , TRAY / GROUNDS EMPTY . T Empt y the drip tray and c offee grounds container and put them back into the machine . Descaling is now complet e.

47 7 T roubleshooting Problem Cause/Result Action Little or no wat er or steam comes out of the cappuccino frother . The pump is very quiet. The connector of the cappuccino frother may be blocked b y milk residues or limescale fragments loosened during descaling.
