6 Important information Impor tant information This machine is intended for use b y specialist or trained staff in busi- nesses, light industry and agricult ural facilities or for c ommercial use by non-professionals. It should o nly be used for coff ee preparation and to heat milk and wat er .
7 Important information U T o completely and safely disconnect the machine from the power supply , first switch off the IMPRESSA using the On/Off button and then at the pow er switch. Only then should you remov e the mains plug from the power socket. There is a risk of scalds or burns on the spouts and the cappuccino frother .
8 Important information U Do not use any coffee beans treat ed with additives or carame- lised coffee beans. U Only fill the water tank with fresh, cold w ater . U Switc h the machine off at the power switc h if you are going to be absent for a longer period of time .

10 1 Preparing and using for the first time Daily maintenance of the mac hine and hygiene when handling milk, coffee and w ater are ke y to a per fect coffee result in the cup ev er y time. Y ou should therefore change the w ater daily . Milk, sparkling mineral w ater or other liquids can damage the wat er tank or the machine.
11 1 Preparing and using for the first time When using the machine for the first time, y ou can choose whether you w ant to operat e IMPRESSA with or without the CLARIS Pro Blue filter cartridge. If the wat er hardness is 10° dH or more, we rec om - mend using the filter cartridge.
12 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Open the filter holder and inser t the filter cartridge into the wat er t ank, exerting slight pressure. T Close the filter holder . It will click into place audibly . E After t wo months, the filter will c ease to work.
13 1 Preparing and using for the first time E If you do not kno w the hardness of your water , you must find this out first (see Chapter 1 ‘Preparing and using for the first time – Determining the wa ter hardness’). T Press the ‘<’ or ‘>’ button to set the w ater hardness.
14 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y ou can adjust the grinder on a continuous scale to suit the degree of roast of your coff ee. If you adjust the consist enc y of grind when the grinder is not ope- rating, the grinder adjustment swit ch could be damaged.
15 2 Preparation 2 Prepar ation E Y ou can stop preparation of a speciality coffee , specialit y cof- fee with milk or hot wa ter at any time. Just press an y button.
16 2 Preparation ‘Espresso ’ and ‘Coffee’ are prepared following this model. Example : Proceed as follows to prepare one c offee. T Place a cup under the coffee spout. T Press the ‘Coffee’ button. Preparation start s. The preset amount of water f or coffee flows into the c up.
17 2 Preparation Y our IMPRESSA can prepare a latt e macchiat o or cappuccino at the touch of a button. There is no need to mo ve the glass or cup. Example : Proceed as follows to prep are one latte macchiato. Precondition: ‘Please select produc t:’ is display ed.
18 2 Preparation T Press the ‘1 portion milk’ button. The machine heats up. ‘1 portion milk’ , the milk foam is prepared . Preparation stop s automatically when the preset amount of milk foam is reached. ‘Please select product:’ appear s on the display .
19 2 Preparation T Press the ‘Espresso ’ button. Preparation start s. The preset am ount of water f or espresso flows into the c up. Preparation stops aut omatically.
20 2 Preparation The following temper atures can be selected for preparing hot wat er: ‘Low’ , ‘Normal’ , ‘ X high’ . There is a danger of scalding from hot wat er splashes. T Av oid direct cont act with the skin. T Place a cup under the hot -wat er nozzle.
21 3 Daily operation 3 Daily oper ation When the IMPRESSA is swit ched on, it automatically prompts you to perform the rinse operation. Start the rinse operation b y pressing the Rotary Switch k .
22 3 Daily operation When you switc h your IMPRESSA off , the spouts used to prepare a speciality coffee or milk are rinsed. T Place one receptacle under the coffee spout and another under the cappuccino frother . Q T Press the On/Off button.

31 4 Permanent settings in programming mode By instructing your IMPRESSA t o automatically switch itself off, y ou can cut down y our energy consumption. If this function is ac tivated, your IMPRES SA switches off automatically after the preset time fol- lowing the last action on the machine .

40 5 Maintenance After 200 preparations or 80 switch-on rinses, the IMPRESSA will prompt you to c lean it. If the wrong cleaning agent is used, the machine could be damaged and/or trac es could be lef t behind in the wat er . T Use only original JURA maintenance products.
