11 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Fill the bean container with coffee beans and close the aroma preservation cover . If the machine is oper ated with a defective pow er cord, there is a danger of potentially fatal electric shock. T Never use a mac hine which is damaged.

15 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y ou can find out what the water hardness is by using the A quadur® test strip supplied as standard. T Hold the test strip briefly (f or 1 sec ond) under flowing w ater . Shake off the w ater . T Wait f or about 1 minute .
16 2 Preparation 2 Preparation Hot coffee , hot steam and hot w ater can cause scalding. Scalding is a serious burn. T Use extreme care when handling hot liquid or steam. T Allow liquid to c ool down before drinking. T In the ev ent of scalding, rinse affected area with cold wat er and seek medical attention.
17 2 Preparation star t screen. As soon as you turn the Rotary Switch, more product s are display ed in a product selec tor . U T urn the Rotar y Swit ch to bring the product you w ant into focus. Start preparation by pressing the R otar y Switc h or the ‘Prepare’ button.

19 2 Preparation Y ou can choose to use a second coffee v ariety , for example decaf - feinated coff ee, with the filter funnel f or ground coffee . E Never add more than two le vel measuring spoons of ground coffee . E Use ground coffee which is not ground t oo finely .
20 2 Preparation Now y ou too can be a professional barista! Y ou can selec t the recipes for 12 delicious c off ee creations from the product selector using the Rotary Switch. The GIGA will guide you through each step of the preparation proc ess with easy-to-foll ow text and pictures.
21 2 Preparation It is easy to make permanent settings f or the amounts (amount of wat er , amount of milk etc.) for all product s according to the cup siz e. Adjust the amount once as sho wn in the following ex ample. E ver y time you prepare a drink in the future , this amount of wat er will be dispensed.
22 2 Preparation Y ou have the option of configuring the star t screen such that the grinder selection (‘beans à la car te’) is alw a ys display ed. Bef ore each preparation, y ou can selec t which grinder is to be used and therefore which coffee beans are t o be used.
23 2 Preparation The following temper atures can be selected for preparing hot wat er: ‘Low’ , ‘Normal’ , ‘High ’ . There is a danger of scalding from hot wat er splashes. T Av oid direct contac t with the skin. Precondition: ‘Please select product:’ is displayed.
24 3 Daily operation 3 Daily operation When the GIGA is switched on, it automatically prompts you to per - form the rinse oper ation. Start the rinse operation by pressing the Rotary Switch k .

32 4 Permanent settings in programming mode U ‘Save Le vel 2’ U Soon after the last preparation, the GIGA stops heating up. After about 5 minutes the message ‘Energy Save ’ is dis- play ed. U Before you can prepare a spec ialty coffee, specialty coffee with milk, or hot wat er , the machine must heat up.

42 5 Maintenance The dual spout must be dismantled and rinsed daily if milk has been prepared to make sure it functions perfectly and also in the interest s of hy giene. T Remov e the milk pipe and rinse it thoroughly under running wat er . T Press the releasing devic es and pull the cov er of the dual spout up and off.
43 5 Maintenance T Dismantle the milk system into its individual par ts. T Rinse all the par ts under runnin g water . If there are severely dried-on milk residues, firstly immer se the individual part s in JURA Cappuccino Cleaner and then rinse them thor - oughly .
44 5 Maintenance T Fit the cover of the dual spout. It will c lick into place audibly . T Inser t the milk pipe into the dual spout. Y our GIGA no longer has to be descaled if you are using the CLEARYL Blue filter cartridge. If the wat er hardness is 10° dH or more , we rec - ommend using the filter cartridge.
45 5 Maintenance T Remove the filter cartridge extension from the Welc ome Pack. T Fit the filter ex tension on top of a CLEARYL Blue filt er car - tridge. T Remov e and empty the water tank. T Open the filter holder and inser t the filter cartridge into the wat er tank, exerting slight pressure.
46 5 Maintenance T Inser t the filter cartridge into the water tank, exerting slight pressure. T Close the filter holder . It will click into place audibly . T Fill the wat er tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the tank. k T Press the Rotary Switch.

48 5 Maintenance The GIGA builds up deposit s of limescale ov er time and automati- cally prompts you to descale it when necessary. The degree of calc i- fication depends on the hardness of your w ater . Non-recommended descaling agents (e.g. vinegar) may contain substances that could damage the machine or leav e residues.
