5 Using a claw hammer or a small sledge hammer strike the center of the 6” “knock -out” disc from the outside of the stove. The “knock -out” disc will break into f our wedges and may need to be tapped out . T ouch up any remaining sharp edges with a file or hand grinder .
6 This prev ents any amount of condensed or liquid creosote from running do wn the outside of the pipe or the stov e top. All joints, including the flue collar connection must be secured with three sheet metal screw s to ensure that the sec tions do not separate.
7 Chimney height Whether a masonry chimney or prefabrica ted metal chimney is used it must be the requir ed height above the roof line. The requirement is: The chimney must be at least 3 feet higher t.
8 C ommon method This method requires the remo val of all c ombustible materials from a t least 18” (457mm) around the chimney connector’ s proposed loca tion.
9 If the chimney liner is too large to accommodate the stov e, an approved r elining system must be installed t o resize the flue. A new sheet metal damper block -off plate must be installed around the c onnect or pipe at the damper frame and sealed with the proper sealant (usually high-temp silicone).
10 Clearances to w alls and ceilings The follo wing clearances ha ve been tested to U L and UL C standards and ar e the minimum clearances specifically established for the Jøtul F 3 . (See next page) The following charts and diagr ams giv e the required clearances y ou must maintain when installing the Jøtul F 3 near combustible surfaces.

13 Opera tion Befor e building a fire in y our new Jøtul F 3 , please read the following section carefully and c ompletely . Do not burn First this stove is designed to burn natur al wood only , wood that has been air -dried for a period of 6 to 14 months will provide the cleanest most efficient heat.
14 Never o ver fire the stov e If any part o f the stove or chimne y glows, y ou are overfiring , and a house fire or serious damage to the stov e or chimney could result.

17 Appendix A: Alternate floor protection All floor protection materials must be non- combustible ie. Metal, brick, stone, mineral fiber boards). Any combustible material may not be used. The easiest means of determining if a proposed alternate floor material meets requirements listed in this manual is to follow this procedure.
