3 Installing batteries 1 Open the battery cover by sliding it in the direction indicated by the arrow . 2 Insert t wo AA batteries with the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals matching matching the directions indicated inside the battery compar tment.
4 P ower-sa ving function T o save battery power , the L CD monitor automatically turns o one minute after the last control has been accessed . Press an y button except POWER to turn on the displa y . Y ou can change the power save setting in the Setup menu.
5 Using menus Use the four-way contr ol and SET to make menu selections. T o use the REC menu 1 T urn the power on and set the camera to REC mode. 2 P ress MENU to display the REC menu. 3 P ress or to select a menu item and or to change a setting. 4 P ress MENU or SET to sa ve settings and close the menu.
6 T aking pic tures 1 T urn the power on and set the camera to REC mode. 2 Aim the focus area on the subject that you want to take a photo of . 3 Pr ess the shutter button half-way down to focus the image . The focus ar ea turns green while in focus, the aperture value , shutter speed , and ISO value are displayed .
7 Recording video clips 1 T urn the pow er on. 2 P ress the SCN button to display the mode screen, then select the MOVIE mode. 3 Center y our subject in the focus area . Av ailable recording time is displayed . 4 Pr ess the shutter button to start recording.
8 Using the card reader 1 Eject the memory card from the camera and insert it in a card reader connected to your computer . 2 Open My C omputer or W indows Explorer and double- click the icon for the memory card. On Macintosh computers, the car d will appear on the desktop.
