3 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Since the installation of a subwoofer can be somewhat mor e complicated than installing full-range speaker s, it is essential that you read this section v ery carefully prior to connecting the subwoofer to your system.

The Infinity Intermezz o 1.2s offer s unprecedented f lexibility for connecting the system to any type of audio or home-theater system. Consult the table at right to determine which system descr iption most closely matches your own, then follow the hook-up method corr esponding to that system.

8 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Pow er On Plug your subwoofer’ s AC cor d into a wall outlet. Do not use the outlets on the back of the recei ver . Initially set the subwoofer’ s Lev el Control K to the “O” position. T urn on your sub by pr essing the power button 2 on the r ear panel.
9 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Infinity R.A.B.O .S. is a simple-to-use, yet sophisticated, low- frequency calibr ation system. It is designed to work in conjunction with Infinity Intermezzo self-amplif ied subwoofer s. The Intermezzo 1.2s subwoof er contains a parametric equalizer that you will adjust as indicated by the R.
10 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Power is switched on or off by pr essing the button directly below the bar -graph window . When the unit is on, one or more LEDs will always be illuminated. The function of the LEDs is descr ibed in the following section. • Power -On/Low Signal: This is indicated by the illumination of any LED on the bar graph.
11 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Init ial System-Level Se tting The following steps will set the pla yback level of the system to the corr ect lev el for all tests that follow . T urn the system v olume to minimum. Cue the R.A.B.O .S. T est CD to T rack 2 and pr ess Pause II .
12 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Each of the following tr acks produces a low-fr equency test tone. The range of these tests is fr om 100Hz down to 20Hz. The frequency of each test is announced bef ore it begins. The fir st test is the highest frequency (100Hz); therefor e, you will be marking the template fr om right to left.
What Does a P arametric Equaliz er Do? The R.A.B.O .S. system uses one band of parametric equalization for r esponse correction. Parametr ic equalizer s are the most ver satile class of filters . The eff ect an equalizer will hav e on the signal is dependent on three par ameters.
14 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Using the Width Select or Read the following instr uctions carefully . The example presented ma y not look like the graph you just created.
15 INTERMEZZO 1.2s The pointer on the slider will indicate the cor rect width setting. Enter this number in the Width field of the Measurement T emplate. In our example, the width is 12.5%. It is not realistic to expect a perf ect fit. Acoustic measurements encompass the beha vior of not only the speakers but of the room and its contents as well.
16 INTERMEZZO 1.2s Example 2. Two Response P eaks: Character ized by two r esponse peaks, approximately equal in amplitude and width. This requir es that you make a choice between the two peaks. In situations like this, the higher frequency peak will alwa ys be more audible and objectionable.
17 INTERMEZZO 1.2s 1. Select a new test position: Cue the test track corr esponding to the center frequency of the dip . In the first example in F igure 18, you would play T rack 13 (56Hz). Press Pla y › . Y ou will see a reading v ery close to what you had befor e.

20 INTERMEZZO 1.2s The Intermezzo 1.2s ma y be cleaned using a soft cloth, dampened with water only , to remov e fingerprints or to wipe off dust. The grille ma y be gently vacuumed. Stains may be remo ved with an aerosol c leaner , following its instructions .
