T he sw itch operates in a fa bri c that contains multiple s witc hes or as the only s witc h in a fabr ic . The 4/8 and 4/16 S AN S witc hes pro vi de the f ollo wi ng feature s: • Air-cool ed 1U chassis .

4. Assemble the outer r ails by completing option a or option b : a. Attach the left outer r ail and the right out er rail to the rear mounting br acke ts using two 1/4-20 he x nuts w ith capti ve st ar lock-w ashers attached loos ely , as show n in Fi g u re 1 2 .
b. Depending on the rack y ou are u sing, complete one of the f ollow ing tasks: • For HP 10 000 ser ies r acks, inst all two #1 0-3 2 x 1/2-inch Philli ps pan-head sc r ew s with capti ve star loc k-washers and tw o #10 adapter washer s in the upper and lo wer h ole locations of the ri ght r a il .

6. Identify the scr ew hol es to be used on t he inner r ails designed f or the sw itch: • T o attach the inner r ails to the SAN S witc h 2/3 2 use the scr ew hol es mark ed 32 .
8. If y ou ar e instal ling the 4/8, 4/16 or 4/3 2B SA N Sw itc h, v erify that a plenum (an air duct that attac hes to the sw itch r ails, enabling the sw itch to dr aw cooler air int o the sw itch f rom outsi de the rac k, r ather than dra wing in heated air fr om within the r ack .

Apply pow er to t he sw itch and log in Once a ser ial connect ion is established , apply po wer t o the sw itch: 1. Connect the po wer cor d to a pow er inlet on the s witc h and a pow er sour ce, as sho wn in Fig ur e2 1 . NO TE: The 4 /32 , 4/ 32 B and 4/64 SAN S wit ch models u se t wo po we r cor ds.
4. When the terminal emulator appli cation, whi ch us es a seri al connection, stops r eporting information , press Enter to dis play the login pr ompt. 5. Log in u sing the administr ativ e account; the logon is admin and the default pass wor d is password .
Cr eate an Ether net connecti on T o cr eate a n Ethernet connecti on: 1. Connect an Etherne t cable to the Ether net port and to the w orkstation , or to an Ethernet netw ork containing the wor kstation , as shown in Fig u re 22 on page 58.
3. At the F abric P arameters pr ompt, enter y and pr ess Enter : Fabric Parameters (yes, y, no, n): (no) y 4. Enter a unique do main ID , such a s the domain ID u sed b y the pre vi ous s w itch , if it is still a vailable: Domain: (1..239) [1] 3 5. Connec t the cab les CA UTION: The minimum bend r adius for a 50-micr on cable is 2 inches under full t ensile load and 1.2 inches with no tensile load . Because the y are easil y ov ertightened, HP does not recommend tie wr aps for opti c al cables. T o connect the cables to the SFP tr anscei ver s: 1.
Set the sw itch d ate and time The date and time s wit ch settings ar e used for logging ev ents. S witc h operation doe s not depend on the date and time ; a sw itch w ith an incorr ect date and time value still fun ct ion s pro perly .
