Chapter 1. About the CD-RW/DVD drive This manual provides information on r egistering, installing, and using the IBM ® ThinkPad ® CD-R W/DVD-ROM Combo III Ultrabay ™ 2000 Drive, and is available o.

Locating the drive controls The following diagram shows the location of the controls on the fr ont of the drive. « 1 ¬ Power light This light is visible when the drive is in use.

Chapter 2. Using the CD-RW/DVD drive This section provides information on how to handle, load, and car e for DVDs and CDs and how to care for your CD-R W/DVD drive.
v Handle a disc by the edges or the center hole. Do not touch the surface of a disc. v T o remove dust or fingerprints, wipe a disc fr om the center to the edge with a soft, lint-free cloth. v Do not write on the surface of a disc. v Do not place a disc in direct sunlight.
Loading a disc 1. Press the Eject button. The tray slides out of the drive. 2. Place a disc in the tray with the label facing up. 3. Close the tray by gently pushing the tray in until it latches. Attention: Do not use force or insert for eign objects to open the tray .
2. Install W inDVD (the DVD movie player program). Note: For W indows 95, the DVD movie player is supported by W indows 95 OSR2.0 or later versions. Y ou can check which version of W indows 95 you are using by doing the following: 1. Click Start , move the cursor to Settings , and then click Control Panel .
6. Double-click Secondary IDE . (Double-click Primary IDE if you are using the ThinkPad A21e computer .) 7. Select the DMA is available as the T ransfer Mode. 8. Click OK . 9. Click Close to close System Properties window . A message displays, informing you that the system settings have changed.
T o display the region code status, click the W inDVD Properties button on the W inDVD user interface. The General tab contains this information. Starting WinDVD T o start W inDVD, complete the following procedur e: 1. Click Start . 2. Click Programs .
For more information on using the softwar e, refer to the IBM RecordNow and IBM DLA help information on the Software and User ’ s Guide CD . Backing up a CD T o copy a commercial CD, you must own the copyright or obtain permission from the copyright owner .
Y ou cannot eject a CD . T ake the following actions after ensuring that the drive is not in the process of writing to a disc: 1. Eject the CD through softwar e. 2. Use the Eject button. 3. T urn off the computer . W ait 45 seconds; then turn on the computer and try using the Eject button again.
Appendix A. W arranty Information This section contains the warranty period for your product, information about obtaining warranty service and support, and the IBM Statement of Limited W arranty . W arranty period Contact your place of purchase for warranty service information.
T elephone technical support Installation and configuration support through the IBM HelpCenter ® will be withdrawn or made available for a fee, at IBM’s discretion, 90 days after the option has been withdrawn from marketing. Additional support offerings, including step-by-step installation assistance, are available for a nominal fee.
