6 CONNECT B A TTER Y (SEE Fig. 2) CA UTION: Do not short battery termi- nals by allo wing a wrench or any other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connecting battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc. P ositive terminal must be connected fi rst to pre vent sparking from accidental ground ing.

8 ASSEMBL Y CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were ov er infl ated at the factory f or shipping pur poses. Correct tire pressure is impor tant f or best cutting performance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown in “PRODUCT SPEC I FI CA TIONS” section of this manual.

11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Al ways wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating y our tractor or per form ing any adjustments or repairs.
12 OPERA TION 02567 LO W POSITION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 8) Y our tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt b y the operator to leav e the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine.

16 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys obser ve saf ety rules when performing any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than fi ve (5) f eet to stop at highest speed in highest gear on a le vel, dr y concrete or pav ed surf ace, then brak e must be check ed and adjusted, then brak e must be adjusted.
17 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

22 T O REMO VE WHEEL FOR REP AIRS (See Fig. 23) • Block up axle securely . • Remov e axle cov er , retaining r ing and washers to allo w wheel remov al (rear wheel contains a square ke y - Do not lose). • Repair tire and reassemble. • On rear wheels only: align groov es in rear wheel hub and axle.
23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull b ulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. • Replace bulb in holder and push bulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill. • Close hood.
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST AR T ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. W ait sever al minutes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spar k plug.
26 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Engine continues to run 1. Faulty oper ator-safety presence control system. 1. Check wiring, switches and connections. If not when operator leaves seat corrected, contact an author ized service center/ with attachment clutc h depar tment.
