2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and f ollow all instructions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in struc tions, to operate the machine. • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , toys , wire, etc.

11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Always wear saf ety glass es or eye shields while op- erating y our tractor or per form ing any adjustments or repairs.

13 ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not ov erfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e lif e).

See “T O LEVEL MO WER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or trim- ming. • Driv e so that clippings are discharged onto the area that has been cut.

16 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 11) • Raise mower to highest position to allo w access to blades . • Remo ve b lade bolt, lock washer and fl at washer se- cur ing blade. • Install new or reshar pened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as shown.
17 MAINTENANCE V- B E L T S Check V -belts f or deter ioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

Make sure tires are properly infl ated (See “PROD UCT SPECIFICA TIONS” section of this manual). If tires are ov er or underinfl ated, you will not properly adjust you r m owe r.

21 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS FIG. 23 TRANSAXLE MO TION CONTROL LE VER NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT (See Fig. 25) The motion control le ver has been pre set at the factory and adjustment should not be necessar y . • Loosen adjustment bolt in front of the right rear wheel, and lightly tighten.

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS FIG. 29 T O REMO VE HOOD AND GRILL ASSEMBL Y (See Fig. 30) • Raise hood. • Unsnap headlight wire connector . • Stand in front of tractor . Grasp hood at sides, tilt tow ard engine and lift off of tractor . • T o replace , rev erse abov e procedure.
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” proper ly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se veral min utes before attempting to star t. 4. Bad spar k plug. 4. Replace spark plug.
26 PROBLEM CA USE CORRECTION Engine continues to run 1. F aulty operator-safety presence control system. 1. Check wiring, switches and connections . If not when operator leaves corrected, contact an authorized service center/ seat with attachment depar tment.
