IMPORT ANT : THIS LAWN MOWER IS SHIPPED WITH OUT OIL OR GASOLINE IN THE ENGINE. Y our new lawn mower has been as sem bled at the factory with the ex cep tion of those parts left unassembled for shipping purposes.
5 KNOW YOUR LA WN MOWER READ THIS OWNER'S MANUAL AND SAFETY RULES BEFORE OPERA TING YOUR LAWN MOWER. Compare the illustrations with your lawn mower to familiarize yourself with the location of various controls and adjust- ments. Save this manual for future reference.
6 TO CONVERT MOWER Y our lawn mower was shipped ready to be used as a mulcher . T o convert to bagging or discharging: REAR BAGGING (See Fig. 6) • Open rear door and remove mulcher plug. Store mulcher plug in a safe place. • Y ou can now install the grass catcher or optional clip- ping deflector .
7 OPERA TION SIDE DIS CHARG ING (See Fig. 7) • Mulcher plug must be installed into rear discharge open ing of mower . • Open mulcher door and install dis charge deflector under door as shown.
8 MOWING TIPS CAUTION : Do not use de-thatcher blade attachments on your mower . Such at- tachments are hazardous, will damage your mower and could void your warranty .

10 LAWN MOWER Always observe safety rules when performing main te nance. TIRES • K eep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control chem i- cals which can harm rubber . • Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp objects and other hazards that may cause tire damage.
11 CAUTION : Petroleum solvents, such as ker o sene, are not to be used to clean car tridge. They may cause de te ri o ra tion of the cartridge. Do not oil car tridge. Do not use pres sur ized air to clean or dry car tridge. 4. Install cartridge, then replace cover .
12 LAWN MOWER TO ADJUST CUT TING HEIGHT See “TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT” in the Operation section of this manual. REAR DEFLECTOR The rear deflector , attached between the rear wheels of your mower , is provided to minimize the possibility that objects will be thrown out of the rear of the mower into the operator's mowing position.

ALCOHOL BLENDED FUELS (CALLED GASOHOL OR USING ETHANOL OR METHANOL) CAN A TTRACT MOISTURE WHICH LEADS TO SEP ARA TION AND FORMA TION OF ACIDS DURING STORAGE.
