3 Introduction Chapter 1: Introduction Congratulations Thank you f or purchasing a Husqvarna PT 26D . Husqvarna PTs hav e been designed according to a unique concept with a front mounted cutting unit and Husqvarna's unique rear wheel steering. The machine is b uilt to giv e maximum efficiency e ven in small and difficult areas.

7 Safety Instructions Chapter 3: Safety Instructions These instructions are for y our saf ety . Read them carefully . General Use • Read all instructions in this operator’ s manual and on the machine bef ore star ting it. Ensure you understand them and then obser ve them.
8 Safety Instructions • Shut down the b lades when not mowing. The b lades m ust only be running when the cutting unit is low ered and active when used f or mowing. • Be careful when rounding fix ed objects, so that the blades do not hit them. Ne v er r un the machine ov er f oreign objects.
9 Safety Instructions • Ne ver use the machine when baref oot. Alwa ys w ear protectiv e shoes or protectiv e boots, pref erab ly with steel toes. • Make sure that y ou have first aid equipment close at hand when using the machine.
10 Safety Instructions Children • Serious accidents may occur if y ou f ail to be on guard f or children in the vicinity of the machine. Children are often attracted to the machine and mowing. Nev er assume that children will sta y put where you last sa w them.
11 Safety Instructions • If leaks arise in the fuel system, the engine must not be star ted until the problem has been resolv ed. • Store the machine and fuel in such a wa y that there is no risk of leaking fuel or fuel vapour leading to damages.
12 Safety Instructions flammable liquids are stored in an open container . Do not w ork on the star ter motor circuit in the vicinity of spilt fuel. Disconnect the batter y's power connection cab le (usually the blac k negativ e cab le) first and connect it last.

17 Presentation 1-2. Speed control The speed of the machine is variab ly controlled using two pedals. P edal (1) is used to trav el f orwards and pedal (2) to re verse . 3. Parking brake Apply the parking brake b y moving the handle f orward. Release the parking brake b y moving the handle bac k.
18 Presentation 4. Control panel There are controls and s witches on the control panel on the right-hand side of the dr iver that are used when operating the machine . The lower section of the panel is equipped with a cov er over the machine’ s fuses and rela ys.
19 Presentation 10. Steering wheel and steering wheel console The position of the steering wheel can be adjusted vertically . The mounting f or the steering unit in the steering column can be adjusted ver tically . Depress the le ver (49) and f old the steer ing wheel console to one side to f acilitate entering the dr iver’ s seat.
20 Presentation Do not smoke when filling the tank with fuel. Diesel is less flammab le than petrol at normal temperatures, b ut becomes ver y flammable if heated to the flash point. This varies depending on the type of diesel but is normally higher than +50 °C (120 °F).
21 Presentation Other functions (option) When the le ver is mo v ed laterally , the oil pressure is operated to the 2nd h ydraulic function, the ter minals are under the f oot plate hatch. 22. Switch f or operation of cutting unit The cutting unit can only be star ted when the dr iver is sitting in the seat.
22 Presentation 26. Star ter switch Three positions: • OFF All functions s witched off . The engine is stopped. The parking light can be switched on (tr affic kit option). •O N Nor mal operating position. • Star t and Preheating K eep the switch in the glow plug mode , when glow plug heating is complete the star ter is engaged.
23 Presentation 30. Weight transfer W eight tr ansf er is activated using this s witch, transfers a propor tion of the unit’ s weight to the machine . This causes greater ground pressure on the machine’ s front wheels and lower g round pressure on the unit’ s pivot wheels.
24 Presentation 36 . Chronometer The chronometer shows ho w many hours the engine has been running. Any time when the engine is not running but the ignition is s witched on is not registered.
25 Presentation Rops The bow is f oldable. Pull out the pins and fold the bo w backw ards. If the bow is used unf olded, safety belt must be used . If the bow is used f olded, safety belt should NO T be used.
26 Presentation Cooling system The engine is water cooled. In the ev ent of a high engine coolant temperature being indicated, chec k the coolant le vel first. Also check that the r adiator grille behind the driver's seat is not clogged. See “Checking r adiatorgrilles” on page 79.
27 Presentation Only fill antifreeze and w ater ready mix ed in a 50/50 ratio . Check the le vel when the engine has been driven f or a f ew min utes after filling.
28 Presentation laterally to the side in relation to the machine . If necessar y , the cutting unit can be tur ned to the ser vice position to be able to clean the underneath of the cov er for e xample. Accessories The accessories are descr ibed in separate operator’ s manuals.
29 Driving Chapter 5: Driving Mowing Tips • Locate and mark plants, rocks and other fix ed objects in order to av oid collisions. • Begin with a high cutting height and reduce it until the desired mowing result is attained.
30 Driving Before Starting • Read section “Saf ety Instructions” on page 11 and “Presentation” on page 29. • Carr y out daily maintenance according to “Maintenance Schedule” on page 71. • Adjust the seat to the desired position. See “5-9.
31 Driving Starting the engine 1. Apply the parking brake b y moving the handle f orward. The engine cannot be star ted if the par king brak e is applied or if a driving pedal is pressed. Check that the s witch for the cutting unit driv e is depressed.
32 Driving 5. Set the desired engine speed (e ven idle) using the throttle control. Allow the engine to run at a moderate speed, f or 3-5 minutes bef ore loading it heavily . Starting in cold conditions If the engine does not star t due to cold conditions, repeat glow plug heating and try star ting again.
33 Driving • Connect the other end of the BLA CK lead to a good CHASSIS EAR TH, aw a y from the fuel tank and batter y . Remov e the leads in rev erse order : • The BLA CK cable is remov ed from the chassis and then the fully charged batter y . • Finally the RED cable from both batteries.
34 Driving 5 . Activ ate weight transf er if desired using the switch (30) on the control panel. The weight transf er position must alwa ys be activated when driving up slopes and deactiv ated when driving down slopes. 6. Star t the cutting unit as necessar y using the switch f or power tak e-off (22) on the control panel.
35 Maintenance Chapter 6: Maintenance It is good practice to alw ays chec k for leaks and loose components after use. Also check the machine and listen f or knocking sounds . During hard use and in extreme conditions , the ser vice inter vals should be reduced.
36 Maintenance 1. First change after 25 hours. When oper ating with a heavy load or at high ambient temper atures, replace the engine oil e very 125 hours.
37 Maintenance 2. Maintenance and replacement are required more often in dusty conditions. 3. With daily use, the machine shall be lubricated twice weekly . 4. P erformed by authorised ser vice workshop. 5. After the first 25 hours. Cleaning Clean the machine directly after use.
38 Maintenance Removing the mac hine’ s co vers Engine cover 1. Open the engine cov ers on both sides. 2. Remov e the screws holding the engine cov er . 3. Lift off the engine cov er . Assemble in the re verse order . Checking radiatorgrilles Clean the radiator grille behind the driver's seat: F old the driver's seat up .
39 Maintenance Replacing the pump and generator drive belts 1. Release the belt tension f or the pump and generator drive belts completely and pry off the belts. If necessar y , slack en off the generator’ s lower mounting scre w slightly if the generator is securely f astened.
40 Maintenance 4. Check that the pedal can be loc ked in the applied position with nor mal pedal f orce. 5. Adjust as necessar y using the wires' adjuster screws (R and L). Servicing the air filter If the engine seems to lack po wer or does not run smoothly this ma y be because the air filter is clogged.
41 Maintenance Bleeding the fuel system If you ha ve run out of fuel, the fuel system must be bled. F acilitatebleeding b y pumping using a hand pump . Remov e the fuel tank filler cap and check the return fuel to the tank. When bubb le free fuel flows to the tank, the engine can be star ted.
42 Maintenance Servicing the battery The machine is equipped with a sealed “maintenance- free” batter y . The batter y has an inspection hole that displa ys diff erent colours: • Green = OK. • White = Charge the batter y . • Red = Replace the batter y .
43 Maintenance FU3 10 A Red Control circuit (max. 10A). If FU3 blo ws the entire machine will be dead. The circuit fuses are located on the circuit board under a cov er on the control panel’ s right-hand side. If any of these fuses trip, only the rele vant circuit has no po wer .
44 Maintenance Replacing the bulb in the headlight Applies to the headlight lamp . F or inf or mation about the bulb type , see “T echnical data”. 1. Remov e the plastic covers (41+43) surrounding the steering wheel console. 2. Disconnect the cable (Caution! plastic hooks) and carefully lift off the unit with warning lamps (39).
45 Maintenance 5. F old the wire loop f or headlight lamp to one side and replace the bulb . 6. Assemble in the re verse order . Light setting Place the machine at least 5 m from a wall. The machine must stand flat. The steering wheel console must be in the rear position.
46 Maintenance 2. Remov e the propeller shaft completely . Pull the ring to release the quick connector and to be ab le to pull the propeller shaft from the shaft jour nal. 3. Star t the engine and raise the cutting unit to the transpor t position. 4.
47 Maintenance 14. Continue to scre w in the adjustment screw f or tilt angle. 15. Install the shaft f or the link joint and its pins on both sides. 16. Star t the engine and raise the cutting unit to the transpor t position. 17. Stop the engine. 18. Install the pins on both sides.
48 Maintenance 4. Set the handle f or cutting height setting. Release the handle by pressing in the b utton and tur ning it to the horizontal position, so that it does not catch on bushes etc. The height inter val is betw een 25 - 127 mm (1”- 5”), 7 positions.
49 Maintenance 5. Remov e the pins on both sides. 6. Tilt the cutting unit. 7. Secure the cutting unit with the pin in the ser vice handle. Keep tr ack of the hairpin spr ing. 8. 50 Maintenance Checking the Blades It is impor tant that the blades are undamaged and well-ground to giv e the best mowing result. The blades should be balanced after sharpening. Damaged blades should be replaced when hitting obstacles that result in a breakdown.
51 Maintenance 5. Undo the locking n ut (3) and the lower scre w (4) for the belt tensioner . Remove the belt tensioner . 6. Do not unscrew the centre bolt in the driv e shaft. Remov e the rear bear ing br idge’ s screws (5) and the spacer washer (6).
52 Maintenance 4. Slack en off two screws and remov e the three others f or the gear housing. T ur n the gear housing so that the belts can be mov ed under the pulley . 5. Check that the belt tensioning equipment is not jammed or binding and replace the spring.
53 Lubrication Chapter 7: Lubrication Lubrication Schedule When in daily use, the w eekly lubrication (40 h) schedule should be carr ied out twice a week. General The position numbers f or the lubr ication points refer to the lubrication instr uctions on the f ollowing pages .
54 Lubrication Accessories Lubrication or other maintenance of optional equipment or accessories, see “Accessories” on page 55, is not described in this manual. This equipment too , naturally , requires maintenance. See the manuals f or the respective accessories for instructions.
55 Lubrication 5. Lift cylinder 2 nipples, one at each end of the cylinder . Lubricate using a grease gun until grease is f orced out. 6. The power take-off shaft’ s front support bearing Lubricate using a grease gun until grease is f orced out.
56 Lubrication Filling engine oil The oil filler opening is on the v alve co v er . Nev er fill abov e the “FULL ” mark (upper notch on the dipstic k). Fill the oil slowly . Reinstall the dipstick bef ore star ting the engine. Star t and run the engine at idling speed for appro x.
57 Lubrication 7. Replacing the engine’ s oil filter 1. Remov e the oil filter . If necessar y , use a filter remov er . 2. Clean the oil filter’ s mounting. 3. Wipe new , clean engine oil onto the seal for the new filter . 4. Fit the filter by hand until it mates + 3/4 turns.
58 Lubrication Changing hydraulic oil Hydraulic oil and filters should be changed b y an authorised Husqvarna workshop. 8. Hydraulic oil filter , change Hydraulic oil filters should be changed b y an authorised Husqvarna workshop. 9. Cutting unit mounting Lubricate ball joints and shafts with the oil can.
59 Lubrication 12. Parking brake cables See “Lubricating the cables” on page 53. Lubricate the upper ends of the cable. Remov e the cable’ s r ubber casing (R and L) when lubricating. Lubricate the cable with an oil can, apply the parking brak e a f ew times and lubricate again.

65 Storage Chapter 9: Storage Winter Storage At the end of the mowing season, the machine should be readied f or storage (or if it will not be in use f or a long period). There is less of a risk of corrosion damage if the machine is cleaned and stored in a dr y environment.
66 Storage Service Low season is the most suitab le time to perf orm a ser vice or ov erhaul of the machine in order to ensure high function saf ety during high season. When ordering spare par ts, please specify the purchase year , model, type, and serial number .

70 Fuel system Chapter 12: Fuel system Fuel system with in-line pump has e xcellent operational reliability as long as the fuel is k ept clean. If contaminated fuel is filled or enters the system in the incorrect manner , the r isk of malfunction or wear/ damage to the injection pump increases.
