11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Al ways wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating your tractor or per form ing an y adjustments or repairs.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope. • Choose the slo west speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills .
13 OPERA TION FIG. 9 ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not overfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e life).
14 FIG. 10 MO WING TIPS • Mower should be properly lev eled for best mowing per- f or mance. See “T O LEVEL MOWER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mow er should be used for trim- ming. • Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the area that has been cut.

16 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 11) • Raise mower to highest position to allow access to blades . • Remov e blade bolt, loc k washer and fl at washer se cur ing bla de. • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as shown.
17 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able. Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whichev er occurs fi rst.

22 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REMO VE WHEEL FOR REP AIRS (See Fig. 25) • Block up axle securely . • Remov e axle cover , retaining r ing and washers to allow wheel remov al (rear wheel contains a square ke y - Do not lose). • Repair tire and reassemble .
23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REPLACE HEADLIGHT B ULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. • Replace bulb in holder and push b ulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill. • Close hood.
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se ver al minutes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spar k plug.
