11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Always wear saf ety glass es or eye shields while op- erating y our tractor or per f orm ing any adjustments or repairs.
12 ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not ov erfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e life).
13 OPERA TION MO WING TIPS • Mower should be properly lev eled f or best mowing per- fo r mance. See “T O LEVEL MO WER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or tr im- ming.
14 MAINTENANCE BEFORE EACH USE T R A C T 0 R Inspect Muffler/Spark Arrester Lubrication Chart Check Brake Operation Clean Air Filter Change Engine Oil (with oil filter) Replace Air Filter Paper Cartri.
15 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 9) • Raise mower to highest position to allow access to blades . • Remov e blade bolt, loc k washer and fl at w asher se cur ing bla d e. • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as shown.
16 CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from overheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers . MAINTENANCE V -BEL TS Check V -belts f or deter ioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary .
17 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

22 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull b ulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the gr ill . • Replace bulb in holder and push bulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill. • Close hood.
23 INTERLOCKS AND RELA YS Loose or damaged wiring may cause y our tractor to run poorly , stop r unning, or prev ent it from star ting. • Chec k wiring. See electr ical wiring diagram in the Repair P ar ts section. T O REPLA CE FUSE Replace with 20 amp automotive-type plug-in fuse .
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST AR T ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se ver al minutes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spar k plug.
26 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS PROBLEM CA USE CORRECTION Engine continues to run 1. Faulty oper ator-safety presence control system. 1. Check wiring, switches and connections. If not when operator leaves seat corrected, contact an author ized service center/ with attachment clutc h depar tment.
