9 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tractor were overinflated at the factory for shipping purposes. Correct tire pressure is important for best cutting performance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown on tires. CHECK DECK LEVELNESS For best cutting results, mower housing should be properly leveled.

12 Fig. 17 TO USE CHOKE CONTROL (N) (See Fig. 19) Use choke control whenever you are starting a cold engine. Do not use to start a warm engine. • T o engage choke control, pull knob out. Slowly push knob in to disengage. The operation of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown into the eyes, which can result in severe eye dam age.
13 TO ADJUST MOWER CUT TING HEIGHT (See Fig. 21) The po si tion of the at tach ment lift le ver (A) de ter mines the cut ting height. TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS (See Fig. 22) Gauge wheels are prop er ly ad just ed when they are slight ly off the ground when mower is at the desired cutting height in operating position.

15 SERVICE REMINDER/HOUR METER Service reminder shows the total number of hours the engine has run and flashes to indicate that the engine or mower needs servicing. When service is required, the service reminder will flash for two hours. T o service engine and mower , see the Maintenance section of this manual.
16 PURGE TRANSMISSION CAUTION: Never engage or disengage freewheel lever while the engine is run ning. T o ensure proper operation and performance, it is rec om- mend ed that the transmission be purged before operating tractor for the first time.
17 T R A C T 0 R 1 - Change more often when operating under a heavy load or in high ambient temperatures . 2 - Service more often when operating in dir ty or dusty conditions. E N G I N E 3 2 2 2 2 3 - Replace blades more often when mowing in sandy soil.
18 TRACTOR Always observe safety rules when per form ing any main te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than five (5) feet to stop at highest speed in high est gear on a level, dry concrete or paved surface, then brake must be checked and ad just ed.
19 V -BEL TS Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able. Re place belts if they begin to slip from wear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission fan and cooling fins should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
20 Fig. 30 DECK WASHOUT PORT (See Fig. 32) Y our tractor’s deck is equipped with a washout port on its surface as part of its deck wash system. It should be utilized after each use. 1. Drive the tractor to a level, clear spot on your lawn, near enough to a water spigot for your garden hose to reach.

23 TO REMOVE WHEEL FOR REP AIRS (See Fig. 40) • Block up axle securely . • Remove axle cover , retaining ring and washers to allow wheel removal (rear wheel contains a square key - Do not lose). • Repair tire and reassemble. • On rear wheels only: align grooves in rear wheel hub and axle.
24 TO ST ART ENGINE WITH A WEAK BA TTERY (See Fig. 42) WARNING : Lead-acid batteries gen- er ate ex plo sive gases. Keep sparks, flame and smoking ma te ri als away from bat ter ies. Always wear eye pro tec tion when around batteries. If your battery is too weak to start the engine, it should be recharged.
25 TO REPL ACE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. • Replace bulb in holder and push bulb holder securely back into the hole in the backside of the grill. • Close hood. TO REMOVE HOOD AND GRILL ASSEMBL Y (See Fig.
26 Immediately prepare your tractor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used for 30 days or more. WARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark.
