Insert a coin in t o the groove of th e battery cover o n th e side of the grip and open th e cover. Insert t w o 3 V lithium batteries a s shown an d replace th e cover. Us e Panasonic CR123A, Durace l l DL123A, o r equivalent. * D o n o t m i x different types o f batteries o r new and o l d batteries at the same time.
S e t the power switch t o O N t o check t h e batteries. T h e battery check indicator w i l l b e displayed for 1 2 seconds. When i s displayed, batteries a r e OK. I f flashes, batteries a r e low, ha v e spares handy. I f i s displayed continuously, batteries should b e r e p laced immediately.

Close t h e b ack cover. The fil m automatically advances to the first frame. S e t th e po w e r switch t o O N t o make sure that th e exposure counter shows "1". I f film i s improperly loaded, t h e LC D panel will display a bl i nk in g "E " .
The camera automatically rewinds the f il m wh en you reach the e nd of a roll. The exposure counter o n the LC D panel counts down a s th e film i s rewinding. * T he fi nal reading o f the exposure counter before rewinding may b e m or e than the number o f exposures specified for the film.
O n c e th e film h as b ee n rewound, a blinking " E " will b e displayed on the LC D panel. Further operations are not possible until th e rewound film cartridge is removed. Op en t he b ac k cover, a nd remove the film cartridge fro m the camera.
Se t th e power switch t o O N . * When t he ca mer a is no t i n use, always se t th e power switch to O F F s o that the shutter cannot b e act ivate d accidentally.
Us e the z oo m button t o adjust the si z e o f yo u r subject i n t h e frame. (telephoto o r wide-angle) Th e shutter release cannot b e operated whi le zooming. Press t he " T " (Telephoto) on the zoom bu tt on t o zo om in . (The maximum focal l ength in th e " T " position is 76 mm.
Hold t he camera correctly. I t i s particularly important t o ho l d the camera steady wh e n shooting at a longer focal length; use both hands f or maximum stability.
Position yo ur subject within t he autofocus frame in the center o f th e viewfinder. Press t h e shutter release button halfway to focus. When correct fo cus ha s been achieved, the autofocus indicator (green) wi l l light up in the viewfinder. If the autofocus indicator i s blinking, correct focus was not achieved.
T he ent ire subj ect should normally b e positioned within th e picture frame, however, the actual available image area will become smaller a s yo u g e t nearer to t h e subject. A t 0.6m(2ft), the su bje ct should b e positioned within the close-up correction marks.
If th e subject is nearer t ha n 0.6m(2ft), th e autofocus indicator (green) wi l l blink an d t he shutter wi ll n ot release. However, th e shutter may s om etimes be released erroneously when the subject i s extremely close t o th e camera.

Color negative fi lm offers the widest exposure latitude, compensating for ov er an d underexposure mo re readily than other films. Th e fl ash working range shown below i s optional for color negative film. Actual flash working range for other film type ma y vary.
Confirm flash charge by pressing the shutter release button halfway. T h e flash indicator (orange) w i ll light up in the viewfinder wh en th e flash is charged. * If the backlit subject is very small a n d d o e s n o t fully cover the autofocus frame, the flash may not fi re automatically.
At 0.6m(2ft), position your subject within th e a r e a outlined b y t he close- up cor rec tio n marks. * When the subject is close to t he camera, use a tripod o r other camera support to prevent the effects o f camera shake. Focal length o f 3 8m m at 0.

Wh en th e main subject is not in the autofocus frame, us e the focus loc k. Otherwise th e camera w i l l focus o n th e background a nd the subject wi ll not b e in focus. Position you r subject in the aut ofo cus frame and press th e shutter release button halfway.

Press th e sh u tt e r release button fully to start the selftimer. Th e shutter will be released 1 2 seconds later. T he selftimer indicator on the front o f the camera wi ll li ght u p for the f ir st 1 0 seconds, th e n blink rapidly for 2 seconds until t he shutter i s released.
Press t he SUBJECT button unt il " C " is displayed on th e L CD panel. T h e camera wi l l shoot repeatedly a s l o n g a s t h e shutter r e l ea s e button i s pressed. Outside the shooting range (P . 1 8) the shutter w ill automatically stop.
Press the SUBJECT b utt on until is displayed on the L CD panel. P r e s s t h e shutter release button. The lens will automatically zoom and after the appropriate subject siz e h as b e e n achieved th e sh u tt e r wi l l be released.
Auto-zoom mo de working range: fr om 1 .3 m (4.3ft) to 2. 6m (8.5ft). * Outside th e ranges a s shown, auto- zoo m m ay not operate. * Even in the auto-zoom mode, t he z oo m button can be operated to override the automatic zoom s et ti n g.
Press the SUBJECT button until "PRE FOCUS" is displayed on the LC D panel. Press t h e shutter release button halfway to focus on your subject.
Press th e shutter release button fully. T he shutter will b e immediately released. By using this mode, the time l apse between when the shutter button i s released and w he n t he picture is actually taken is reduced.
Press th e FLASH button to s e t th e mode t o AUTO-S. wi ll light o n th e LC D panel. Compose y o u r shot and press t h e shutter release button. T h e flash will emit a rapid series of low power pre- flashes, followed directly by the main flash.
* Ho ld the camera firmly while pressing the shutter release button. * Auto-S m od e wi ll n ot b e cancelled whe n power is switched O F F . T o cancel AUTO-S mode, press the FLASH button. AUTO-S flash m od e working range: ISO 100 200 400 WIDE(38mm) 0.
Press th e FLASH button t o s et the flash m od e to OFF. will light o n the L CD panel. * I n l ow lit conditions, the necessary shutter speed m a y be v er y slow ( u p to 2 seconds) t o attain proper exposure. T o prevent blurred pictures resulting from camera shake, th e camera should be s et fir mly in position (with a tripod for example).
In t h i s mode, th e flash always fires regardless o f available light. Us e thi s m o de fo r daylight shooting in backlit conditions to compensate fo r backlighting which may ma ke th e subject appear t oo dark. By using th e F IL L -I N mode, the subject wi l l b e properly li t by the flash.
