4 AS SEMBL Y Read these instructions and this man ual in its entirety before you attempt to assemble or operate your new lawn mow er . IMPORT ANT : THIS L AWN MOWER IS SHIPPED WITH OUT OIL OR GASOLINE IN THE ENGINE. Y our new lawn mower has been as sembled at the factory with the ex ception of those parts left unassembled for shipping purposes.

6 TO CONVERT MOWER Y our lawn mower was shipped ready to be used as a mulcher . T o convert to bagging or discharging: REAR BAGGING (See Fig. 6) • Lift rear door of the lawn mower and place the grass catcher frame hooks onto the door pivot pins. • T o convert to mulching or dis charging operation, remove grass catch er and close rear door .

10 L AWN MOWER Always observe safety rules when performing main tenance. TIRES • Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control chem- icals which can harm rubber . • Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp objects and other hazards that may cause tire damage.
11 TO CLEAN AIR FIL TER 1. Loosen screw and tilt cover to re move. 2. Carefully remove cartridge. 3. Clean by gently tapping on a flat surface. If very dirty , replace car tridge. CAUTION: P e troleum solvents, such as kerosene, are not to be used to clean cartridge.
12 L AWN MOWER TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT See “TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT” in the Operation section of this manual. REAR DEFLECTOR The rear deflector , attached between the rear wheels of your mower , is provided to minimize the possibility that objects will be thrown out of the rear of the mower into the operator's mowing position.

ALCOHOL BLENDED FUELS (CALLED GASOHOL OR USING ETHANOL OR METHANOL) CAN A TTRACT MOISTURE WHICH LEADS TO SEP ARA TION AND FORMA TION OF ACIDS DURING STORAGE.
