5 T O ASSEMBLE GRASS CA TCHER (See Figs. 3 and 4) 1. Slide grass catcher bag o v er the frame . Make sure the rear handle is on top (the same side as the front handle) and the strap is on the bottom. 2. Slip vin yl bindings ov er fr ame. NO TE : If vinyl bindings are too stiff , hold them in warm water f or a f e w minutes.

7 BLADE CONTROL (See Fig. 6) CA UTION: When the blade control is engaged, the blade turns. When the blade contr ol is disengaged, the b lade stops. • Y our la wn mow er has a blade/br ak e clutch f astened to the engine crank shaft, which star ts or stops the blade .
8 • Lift the round door of the discharge chute and place the grass catcher into place on the discharge chute . NO TE: Be sure round door of discharge chute rests on grass catcher as sho wn. • Mo wer is no w ready f or rear bagging operation. • T o conv ert to mulching operation, remov e gr ass catch er and discharge chute.
9 OPERA TION T O EMPTY GRASS CA TCHER (See Figs. 12 and 13) 1. Open round door of discharge chute to mov e star ter rope out and aw a y from gr ass catcher . 10 OPERA TION BEFORE ST AR TING ENGINE ADD OIL (See Figs. 14 and 15) Y our lawnmow er is shipped without oil in the engine. F or type and grade of oil to use , see “EN GINE” in the Maintenance section of this manual. CA UTION: DO NO T overfi ll engine with oil, or it will smoke hea vily fr om the m uf- fl er on star tup.

13 LA WN MO WER Alwa ys observe saf ety rules when perf orming any main- te nance. TIRES • K eep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control chem- i cals which can har m rubber . • A v oid stumps, stones , deep ruts, sharp objects and other hazards that ma y cause tire damage.
14 AIR FIL TER Y our engine will not r un properly and may be damaged by using a dirty air fi lter . Replace the air fi lter e very 100 hours of operation or e v ery season, whichev er occurs fi rst. Ser vice air cleaner more often under dusty conditions.
15 7. Use a wood bloc k between b lade and mow er hous ing to pre v ent blade from turning when re mov ing b lade bolt. NO TE: Protect y our hands with glov es and/or wr ap blade with heavy cloth.
16 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS 2. Route the other end of the new drive belt through hole in housing. 3. Reattach debris shield to housing with screw pre vi- ously remov ed. Be sure tab of debris shield is in gap of housing. 4. P osition b lade on the blade adapter aligning the tw o (2) holes in the blade with the r aised lugs on the adapter .
17 HANDLE (See Figs. 25 and 26) Y ou can fold y our la wn mow er handle f or storage . 1. Loosen the two (2) handle knobs on sides of the upper handle and allow handle to f old do wn to the rear .
