Star t the engine and mak e sure the engine stops when you mov e the stop switch to the stop setting. Cutting attac hment guard This guard is intended to prev ent loose objects from being thrown tow ards the operator .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Muffler The muffler is designed to keep noise le vels to a minimum and to direct exhaust fumes a way from the user . A muffler fitted with a catalytic conv er ter is also designed to reduce harmful exhaust gases.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 Locking n ut A locking nut is used to secure some types of cutting attachment. When fitting, tighten the nut in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the cutting attachment. T o remo ve it, undo the nut in the same direction as the cutting attachment rotates.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 12 – English General rules Only use cutting attachments with the guards we recommend! See the chapter on T echnical data. K eep the teeth of the blade correctly shar pened! F ollow our instructions and use the recommended file gauge.
ASSEMBL Y English – 13 Fitting the J-handle • Clip the loop handle onto the shaft. Note that the loop handle must be fitted between the arrows on the shaft. • Slide the spacer into the slot in the loop handle. • Fit the nut, knob and screw . Do not overtighten.
ASSEMBL Y 14 – English Fitting a blade guar d, grass b lade and grass cutter • Hook the blade guard/combination guard (A) onto the fitting on the shaft and secure with the bolt. CA UTION! Ensure that the guard extension is remo ved. Use the recommended blade guard.
FUEL HANDLING English – 15 Fuel safety Nev er star t the machine: 1 If you ha ve spilled fuel on it. Wipe off the spillage and allow remaining fuel to e vaporate. 2 If you ha ve spilled fuel on yourself or y our clothes, change your clothes. W ash any par t of your body that has come in contact with fuel.
FUEL HANDLING 16 – English Mixing • Alwa ys mix the gasoline and oil in a clean container intended for fuel. • Alwa ys star t by filling half the amount of the gasoline to be used. Then add the entire amount of oil. Mix (shak e) the fuel mixture.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 17 Check bef ore star ting • Check the b lade to ensure that no cracks hav e formed at the bottom of the teeth or by the centre hole.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 18 – English Primer b ulb: Press the air purge repeatedly until fuel begins to fill the bulb . The b ulb need not be completely filled. Hold the body of the machine on the ground using your left hand (CA UTION! Not with your foot!).

W ORKING TECHNIQUES 20 – English Basic working tec hniques Alwa ys slow the engine to idle speed after each working operation. Long per iods at full throttle without any load on the engine can lead to serious engine damage. Grass clearing using a grass b lade • Grass blades and g rass cutters must not be used on woody stems.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 21 Cutting • The trimmer is ideal for cutting grass that is difficult to reach using a normal lawn mower . K eep the cord parallel to the ground when cutting. Avoid pressing the trimmer head against the ground as this can ruin the lawn and damage the tool.
MAINTENANCE 22 – English Carburetor Y our Husqvarna product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce har mful emissions. After the engine has used 8-10 tanks of fuel the engine will be run-in.
MAINTENANCE English – 23 Fine adjustment of the idle speed T Adjust the idle speed using the idle adjustment screw T , if it is necessary to readjust. First turn the idle adjustment screw T clockwise until the cutting attachment starts to rotate. Then turn the screw anticlockwise until the cutting attachment stops.
MAINTENANCE 24 – English frequently bloc ked, this can be a sign that the performance of the catalytic conv er ter is impaired. Contact y our dealer to inspect the muffler . A block ed screen will cause the machine to ov erheat and result in damage to the cylinder and piston.
MAINTENANCE English – 25 Oiling the air filter Alwa ys use special filter oil. Filter oil contains a solvent to make it spread e venly through the filter . Y ou should therefore av oid skin contact. Put the filter in a plastic bag and pour the filter oil ov er it.
26 – English MAINTENANCE Maintenance schedule The follo wing is a list of the maintenance that must be performed on the machine. Most of the items are described in the Maintenance section. The user must only carr y out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual.
