GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 7 BOO TS Wear boots with steel toe-caps and non-slip sole . CLO THING Wear clothes made of a strong f abric and avoid loose clothing that can catch on twigs and branches. Alwa ys wear heavy , long pants. Do not wear jewellery , shorts sandals or go barefoot.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English Stop s witch Use the stop switch to s witch off the engine. Star t the engine and make sure the engine stops when you mov e the stop switch to the stop setting. Cutting attachment guar d This guard is intended to prev ent loose objects from being thrown tow ards the operator .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 fi tted with a catalytic conv er ter is also designed to reduce harmful exhaust gases. In countries that have a w ar m and dry climate there is a significant risk of fire. W e therefore fit certain mufflers with a spark arrestor screen.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Cutting equipment This section describes how to choose and maintain your cutting equipment in order to: • Reduce the risk of blade thrust. • Obtain maximum cutting perf or mance. • Extend the life of cutting equipment.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 T rimmer head • Only use the recommended trimmer heads and trimmer cords. These have been tested b y the manuf acturer to suit a par ticular engine size. This is especially impor tant when a fully automatic trimmer head is used.
ASSEMBL Y 12 – English Fitting the J-handle • Clip the loop handle onto the shaft. Note that the loop handle must be fitted between the arrows on the shaft. • Slide the spacer into the slot in the loop handle. • Fit the nut, knob and screw . Do not overtighten.
ASSEMBL Y English – 13 CA UTION! Use the recommended blade guard. See the T echnical data section. • Fit the drive disc (B) on the output shaft. • T ur n the blade shaft until one of the holes in the drive disc aligns with the corresponding hole in the gear housing.
FUEL HANDLING 14 – English Fuel safety Nev er star t the machine: 1 If you ha ve spilled fuel on it. Wipe off the spillage and allow remaining fuel to e vaporate. 2 If you ha ve spilled fuel on yourself or y our clothes, change your clothes. W ash any part of your body that has come in contact with fuel.
FUEL HANDLING English – 15 Mixing • Alwa ys mix the gasoline and oil in a clean container intended for fuel. • Alwa ys star t by filling half the amount of the gasoline to be used. Then add the entire amount of oil. Mix (shake) the fuel mixture.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 16 – English Check bef ore star ting • Check the b lade to ensure that no cracks hav e formed at the bottom of the teeth or by the centre hole.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 17 Choke: Set the choke control in the chok e position. Hold the body of the machine on the ground using your left hand (CA UTION! Not with your foot!).
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 18 – English General working instructions Basic safety rules 1 Look around you: • T o ensure that people, animals or other things cannot affect y our control of the machine.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 19 Basic working tec hniques Alwa ys slow the engine to idle speed after each working operation. Long periods at full throttle without any load on the engine can lead to serious engine damage. Grass clearing using a grass b lade • Grass blades and g rass cutters must not be used on woody stems.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 20 – English Cutting • The trimmer is ideal for cutting grass that is difficult to reach using a normal lawn mower . Keep the cord parallel to the ground when cutting. Avoid pressing the trimmer head against the ground as this can ruin the lawn and damage the tool.
MAINTENANCE English – 21 Carburetor Y our Husqvarna product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce har mful emissions. After the engine has used 8-10 tanks of fuel the engine will be run-in.
MAINTENANCE 22 – English Low speed jet L T r y to find the highest idling speed, tur ning the low speed needle L clockwise respectiv ely counter-clockwise. When the highest speed has been found, turn the low speed needle L 1/4 turn counter-clockwise.
MAINTENANCE English – 23 Muffler CA UTION! Some mufflers are fitted with a catalytic conv er ter. See chapter on T echnical data to see whether your machine is fitted with a catalytic con ver ter . The muffler is designed to reduce the noise le vel and to direct the exhaust gases a way from the oper ator.
MAINTENANCE 24 – English before taking an y fur ther action. If the spar k plug is dir ty , clean it and check that the electrode gap is 0.020 inch (0.5 mm). The spar k plug should be replaced after about a month in operation or earlier if necessary .
English – 25 MAINTENANCE Maintenance schedule The follo wing is a list of the maintenance that must be performed on the machine. Most of the items are described in the Maintenance section. The user must only carry out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual.
