1 How Sonar W orks Sonar technology is based on sound wa ves. T he 700 Series™ Fishing System uses sonar to locate and define structur e, bottom contour and composition, as well as depth directly below the transducer .
2 When all the echo es are view ed side by side, an easy to interpret "gr aph" of the bottom, fish and structure appear s. The sou nd pu lse s are t rans mit te d at vario us frequencies depending on the applica tion. V ery high frequencies (455 kHz) ar e used for grea test definition but the operating depth is limited.
3 DualBeam PLUS™ Sonar Y our 700 Series™ Fishing System uses a 200/83 kHz DualBeam PLUS™ sonar system with a wide (60°) area of cov erage. DualBeam PLUS™ sonar has a narrowly f ocused 20° center beam, surrounded b y a second beam of 60°, expanding your cov erage to an ar ea equal to your depth.

6 How GPS and Cartogr aphy W ork Y our 700 Series™ Fishing System also supports GPS and chartplotting, and uses GPS and sonar to determine your position, displa y it on a grid, and provide detailed underwater inf ormation. T he Global P ositioning System (GPS) is a satellite na vigation system designed and maintained by the U.

13 Understanding Sonar History It is important to understand the significance of the display . The displa y does NOT sho w a literal 3- dimensional repr esentation of what is under the water .
14 Real T ime Sonar (RTS®) W indow A Real Time Sonar (RTS®) Window appear s on the right side of the display in the Sonar Vie w only . The RTS® W indow always upda tes at the f astest rate possible for depth conditions and sho ws only the returns from the bottom, structure and fish tha t are within the transducer beam.
15 Bottom Presentation As the boat mov es, the unit charts the changes in depth on the display to cr eate a profile of the Bottom Contour . T he type of bottom can be determined from the return charted on the display . 18 Sonar Zoom V iew Sonar Zoom Vie w increases the display ed resolution to separ ate sonar returns that are v ery close together , such as those caused by fish suspended close to the bottom or within structure. In Zoom V iew , the display is split to show a narrow sli ce of the full range view on the right and the zoomed vie w on the left.
19 200/83 kHz Split Sonar V iew Split Sonar V iew displa ys sonar returns from the 83 kHz wide beam on the left side of the screen and displa ys sonar returns from the 200 kHz narr ow beam on the right side of the screen. Depth is alw ays display ed in the upper left hand corner .
20 Big Digits V iew Big Digits V iew pr ovides digital data in a lar ge, easy-to-see forma t. Depth is always displa yed. Readouts f or temperatur e, speed and T riplog information are displayed automa tically if the appropria te accessory is connected to the system.

25 Highlighting a recording: Y ou can scroll through the whole list of recor ding icons available in the Snapshot and Recording Vie w using the 4-W A Y Cursor keys. T he highlighted icon will be surrounded by arro ws, and a green play triangle will appear to its right.
26 Recording V iew only , playback speed can also be changed using the Left and Right 4-W ay Cur sor keys. Pla yback is paused when the sonar cursor is activ e and resumes pla ying when the cursor is remo ved. Playback is automa tically paused when the end of the recor ding is reached.
27 Side Beam V iew (with optional-purchase QuadraBeam PL US™ transducer) Side Beam View is only a vailable if you ha ve connected an optional-pur chase QuadraBeam™ transducer accessory and when T ransducer Select is set to QuadraBeam (see Sonar Menu T ab: T ransducer Select ).

37 Introduction to Na vigation Use your Fishing System to establish waypoints at ar eas of interest and to navigate to thos e waypoints via a sa vable route (r epresenting the shortest intended distance between wa ypoints). Y ou can also view and save tr acks, which repr esent the actual path of the boat.
38 T racks consist of detailed position history , and are display ed as a breadcrumb trail of trackpoint s. The Curr ent T rack shows the position history since the unit was pow ered up (maximum of 20,000 tr ackpoints displayed). Y ou can clear the Current T rack or sav e it at any time.
39 Edit a wa ypoint : Fr om the W aypoi nts subme nu, select E dit and pr ess the R IGHT Cur sor ke y to dis play a li st of sa ved w ayp oints. S elect the w ay point y ou wa nt to edit and p ress t he RIGHT Cu rsor k ey .
40 Cancel navigation: From the Navigation X -Press™ menu, select Cancel Naviga tion and press the RIGHT Cursor key . Canceling navigation remo ves the route and any w aypoints cr eated using the GO T O key , but does not remo ve any saved r outes from memory .
41 Add or Remove a T rolling Grid: Fr om the W aypoints submenu, select Grid and press the RIGHT Curs or key to displa y a list of waypoints. Select the w aypoint to which you want t o add the grid. The tr olling grid will appear on all of the navigati on views, and can be used as a guide when trolling ar ound a waypoint.
42 Sav e, Edit or Delete a Route Save the current route: W hile you are na vigating, the current r oute can be saved. F rom the Na vigation X -Press ™ menu, select Sa ve Current Route and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey .
43 Sav e or Clear a Current T rack Save the curr ent track: F rom the Naviga tion X-Pr ess™ menu, select Save Current T rack and press the RIGHT Cur sor key . The track will r emain on the display , but will change from black to gra y . T o remov e the track completely from the display , see Edit, Delete or Hide Saved T racks.
44 Man Overboar d (MOB) Navigation As soon as you know that you hav e a man ov erboard, you should activ ate MOB navigati on to maximize chances for a successful rescue. MOB na vigation allows you cr eate an MOB w aypoint to locate the point a t which your man w ent overboa rd, and the rela tion of the boat to that point.

46 Ke y Functions Y our Fishing System user interface consists of a set of easy-to-use k eys that work with various on-screen views and menus to give y ou flexibility and control over y our fishing experience.
47 INFO Ke y Info - Press the INFO key while in Bir d's Eye, Chart or Combo Vie w to display inf ormation about objects that ar e nearest to an active cursor .
48 4-W A Y Cursor Control K ey The 4-W ay Cursor Contr ol Ke y has multiple functions, depending on the situation: • Use the DOWN or UP arro w keys to selec t a menu choice from the menu list, then use the LEFT or RIGHT arrow k eys to change a menu setting.
49 GO T O Ke y The GO TO K ey has multiple functions, depending on the situation: • If the Cursor is active, pressing the GO TO ke y while in any view cr eates a waypoint and starts navigation to wards tha t wa ypoint.
50 EXIT Ke y The EXIT k ey has multiple functions, depending on the situa tion: • If an alarm is sounding, pressing EXIT will cancel the alarm. • If a menu tab is selected, pressing EXIT will exit the menu mode and return to the view . • If a menu is active, pr essing EXIT will return to the pr evious lev el in the menu system.
51 Accessory Bus Use the Accessory Bus to expand the functionality of your Fishing System. Accessories plug directly into the Fishing System, enabling Adv anced fea tures such as W eatherSense® and the SmartCast® W ireless Sonar Link.
52 P owering Up the Unit T urn on your Fishing System by press ing the POWER/LIGHT key . The T itle screen is displa yed until the Fishing System begins oper ation. Y our Fishing System will begin Normal or Simulator opera tion, depending on the presence or absence of a transducer .
53 T he Menu System The menu system is divided into easy -to-use menu modules. T he main components of the menu system are: Start-Up Options Menu - Press the MENU key during the po wer up sequence to view the Start -Up Options menu.

56 Simulator Use the Simulator to learn ho w to use your Fishing System bef ore taking y our boat on the wa ter . The Simula tor is a very pow erful tool that simula tes on the water oper ation, pr oviding a randomly -updated displa y .
57 System Status Use System Status to view system connections and to conduct a unit self-test. The f ollowing scr eens are display ed in turn when you press the VIEW button when using System Status: • Self T est • Accessory T est • GPS Diagnostic Vie w .

59 GPS Diagnostic Vie w GPS Diagnostic V iew shows a sky chart and numerical da ta from the GPS receiver . The sky chart sho ws the location of each visible GPS satellite with its satellite number and a signal str ength bar . A dark gray bar indicates tha t the satellite is being used to determine y our current position.
60 PC Connect (with PC Connect cable only) Use PC Connec t to update the softwar e of the Fishing System contr ol head. This f eatur e requires the use of the PC Connect Cable. Complete instructions are included with the PC Connect Cable accessory . NO TE: The PC Connect Cable requires a separ ate purchase.
61 Sonar X -Press™ Menu (Sonar views only) The Sonar X -Press ™ menu pro vides access to the settings most frequently -used. Press the MENU key once while in an y of the Sonar V iews to access the Sonar X-Pr ess ™ menu.

63 Sensitivity Sensitivity controls ho w much detail is shown on the display and will adjust the sensitivity of all sonar fr equencies. Increasing the sensitivity shows more sonar r eturns from small baitfish and suspended debris in the water; ho wev er , the display may become too cluttered.
64 Upper Range (Advanced: Sonar , Split Sonar, Big Digits and Circular Flasher V iews only) Upper Range s ets the sha llow est depth ran ge tha t will be dis play ed on the Sonar , Split Sonar , Big Digits and Ci rcul ar Flashe r views .
65 Low er Range Lower Range sets the deepest depth r ange that will be displayed. Automatic is the def ault setting. When in automa tic mode, the lowe r range will be adjusted by the unit to f ollow the bottom. Selecting a specific setting locks the depth range into Manual mode.
66 Side Beam Range (WideSide® transducer: W ideSide® view only) Side Beam Range sets the deepest range that will be displa yed in the WideSide® View .

68 Bottom Lock (Sonar Zoom view only) Bottom Lock changes the mode of the Zoomed view in the Sonar Zoom V iew . Bottom Lock continuously graphs the bottom a t a constant point on the display regardle ss of changes in depth. This "fla ttens" out the bottom contour , but is effective a t showing fish on or near the bottom.
69 Cancel Navigation (only when Navigating) Cancel Navigation discards the curr ent route and exits Naviga tion Mode. T his menu choice will only appear when you are curr ently navigating a r oute. T his will not delete a previously -sav ed route. T o Cancel Navigation: 1.
70 Navigation X -Press™ Menu (Navigation views only) The N av ig a ti o n X-P re s s™ m e nu p ro vi d es access to the settings most frequently used. Press the MENU k ey once while in the Bird's Ey e Vie w , the Chart or the Combo View to access the Navigatio n X-Pr ess™ menu.
71 W aypoint [Name] (Only with an active cursor on a waypoint) W aypoint [Name] allows you to vie w the W aypoints submenu f or the waypoint under your cursor .

73 Clear Current T rack Clear Current T rack allows you to clear the current track being displa yed and start a new tr ack at the pr esent position. T o Clear Current T rack: 1. Highlight Clear Current T rack on the Navigation X -Press™ menu. 2. Use the RIGHT 4-WA Y Cursor Control ke y to initiate clearing the current track.
74 Skip Next W aypoint (o nly w he n Nav ig ati ng ) Skip Next W aypoint r emoves the next w aypoint fr om the current route. T his menu choice will only appear when you are curr ently navigating a r oute. T o Skip Next Wa ypoint: 1. Highlight Skip Next W aypoint on the Naviga tion X -Press™ menu.
75 Cancel MOB Navigation (only when MOB Navigation is activated) Cancel MOB Navigation r emoves the Man Ov erboard (MOB) wa ypoint and exits Man Overboard mode. T his menu choice will only appear when you are currently naviga ting in Man Overboard mode.

83 Stop Playback (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card only) Stop Playback allows y ou to stop playback of a sonar recor ding from any vie w . This menu option is only a vailable when you ha ve an optional-pur chase MMC/SD card installed and y ou are playing back a r ecording.
