6 2 Getting to Know Your Mobile Phone 2.1 Mobile Phone View 2.1.1 Phone at a G lance All the pictures in t his guide are for your reference only. The act ual appearance and display featur es depend on the mobile phone you purchase. 2.1. 2 Key Funct ion s at Your Finger tips • Press to pow er on your mo bile phone.
7 • Touch to retur n to the previous screen. • Touch to exit any applic ation you are running. • Touch to hide the ke yboard. Touch to open the menu on an ac tive screen. • Touch to return to th e Home screen. • Touch and hold to sho w the most recently used app lications.
8 2.2 Installing Your Mobile Phone 2.2.1 Installing the Battery and the m icroSD Card 1 Remove the battery cover 2 3 Insert the microSD card 4 Install the battery Install the battery cover.
9 2.2.2 Charging the Battery Before charging t he battery, ensur e that it has been pr operly inserte d into your phone. 1. Connect the USB cable that came with your mobile phone t o the charger. 2. Connect the USB cable to your mo bile phone. Then, plug in the connec tor of the charger to an electric al outlet.
10 Allow the battery to ch arge for a few minutes wit h the phone powered off before attempting to powe r on the phone. • The battery will not hold a charge for the way it did when it was new. When the battery life becomes notice ably shorter than usual after being c harged properly, replace the batter y with a new one of the same type .
11 2.3 Power On or Off Your Mobile Phone 2.3.1 Powering On Your Mobile Phon e Press . The first time you power on your phone, you will be asked to sign in to your account an d set up your mobile phone. 2.3.2 Powering Off Your Mobile Phone 1. Press and hold to open the Phone options menu.
12 2.5 Locking and Unlocking the Screen 2.5.1 Locking the S creen • When your phone is on, press to lock the screen. Wh en the screen is locke d, you can still receive mes sages and calls. • If your phone is idle for a while, the screen will lock automatically.

14 2.6. 2 Noti fica tion Pa nel Your mobile phone will notify y ou when you receive a new mess age or there is an incoming event. The notif ication panel also informs you about alarms and settings. Open the notification panel to see who the wireless netw ork operator is or to view a message, reminder , or event notifica tion.
15 Opening the Notification P anel 1. When a new notification icon a ppears on the notification bar, touch and hold the notification bar, and then flick down to open th e notification panel. 2. On the notification panel, you can do the follow ing: • Touch a notifica tion to open the related application.
16 2. Without lifting your fi nger, drag the item to the desired position on the screen, and then release it. Removing a Screen Item 1. Touch and hold an item on the Home scr een until the item expands and the mobile phone vibrates . 2. Without lifting your finger, drag the it em to the trash can.
17 2.7.2 Removing the microSD Card 1. Touch > Settings . 2. Scroll down the screen, and then touch SD card & phone storage > Unmount SD card . 3. Carefully remove the microSD card. 3 Calling To make a phone call, you can dial a number or touch a number f rom your contact list, on a Web page, or in a document.
18 3.1. 2 Making a Cal l fr om Contac ts 1. Touch > Contacts to display the contact list. If you are already working with Dialer or Call log , touch the Contacts tab. 2. In the list, touch the contact you want to call. 3. Touch to dial the phone number.
19 3.2.3 Rejecting an Inco ming Call Drag the t o the left to reject the call. 3.3 Other Opera tions During a Call 3.3.1 Making a Conferenc e Call If you rece ive a new call while you are already on a call, you can co nnect the seco nd call to the call you are on.
20 3.3. 2 Switchi ng Between Cal ls If you receive a new ca ll while you are already on a c all, you can switch bet ween the two calls. 1. While you are on the fir st call and the se cond call comes in, ans wer the incoming call, and then touch > Swap calls .
21 1. Connect the TTY devic e to the headset jac k of the phone and set th e phone to the TTY mode. 2. Make or answer calls as normal. 3. When the call is put through, use the TTY device to send or receive the letters. 4. Press the to end the call. 3.
22 All of your contacts ar e displayed alphabetically in a list that yo u can scroll through. 4.2 Adding a Contact 1. In the contact list , touch > Create contact . 2. If you have more than one ac count with con tacts, touch the account to wh ich you want to add th e contact.
23 4.5 Communicating with Your Contacts From the Contacts or Favorites tab, you can quickly c all or send a text (SMS) or multimedia message (MMS) to a contact’s default phone numb er. You can also open details to view a list of all the ways you can communic ate with that contact.
24 4. Touch Add Members to add members on the group list. 5. Select the contacts to be added to th e group, and then touch OK 6. When you are finished, t ouch Done to save the group information. 4.7. 2 Edit ing a Grou p You can always make ch anges to the information yo u have stored for a gro up.

27 5.1.4 Using the L andscape Key board If you find the keyboard inconvenient or difficult to use, turn your mobile phone sideways. The screen will display the keyboard in landscape orientation, providing you with a wider keyboa rd layout. 5.2 Customizing Keyboard Settings 1.
28 The message list opens, and y our name appears in the list, follow ed by the message you just sent. Responses appear in the window. As yo u view and send additional messages, a message thread is created. 6.1. 3 Creati ng and Sending a Multimed ia Messag e You can use mult imedia messages to mak e everyday commu nications very spe cial.
29 6.1. 5 Replyi ng to a Mes sage 1. In the message list, touch a text or multimedia message threa d to open it. 2. Touch the text box to co mpose your message, and t hen touch Send . You can reply to messag e(s) in another way: In Messaging , press > Multis elec t , select one or more thr eads, and then touc h Reply .

33 • Bookmarks : Touch to display bookmarks. • Windows : Touch to go to the web preview screen. You can switch to anothe r web page or open a new web page on this screen. • Refres h : Touch to refresh the curr ent page. • Forward : Touch to brow se the next web pa ge.
34 Opening a Bookmark 1. In a browser window, touch , and then touch Bookmarks . On the Bookmarks screen, touch the Histo ry tab to view the pages you have visited. Or touch the Most visited tab to view the pages y ou have visited most frequently. 2. Touch the bookmark of the website you want to open.
35 • Object Push Profile (OPP): allows you to transfe r files through Blue tooth. • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2D P): allows you to use a stereo Bluetooth headset. • A/V Remote Contr ol Profile (AVRCP): allows you to control wh at plays through the Bluetooth headset remotely.
36 8.1 Taking Photos and Recording Videos The camera is a c ombination of came ra and camcord er that you can us e to shoot and share pictures and videos. 8.1.1 Opening You r Camera • Touch > Camera to open the camera. The camera opens in landsc ape mode, ready to take a picture or r ecord a video.
37 8.1. 3 Viewin g Your Ph otos 1. After taking a photo, a thumbnail of the photo y ou have just taken is shown in the upper right corner of the capture scre en. Touch the thumbna il to view it. 2. Touch the onscreen but ton to do any of the fo llowing: • Touch Share to send the photo in a mess age or post it online.

39 8.3 DTS Envelo™ DTS Envelo is a virtual su rround sound solution for c onsumer electr onics. It can create virtual surround sou nd from any input source: mono, stereo, or 5.1 multi- channel. 8.3. 1 Usin g DTS Envelo DTS can be used only with a head set and when music or movies are played through Music or Gallery .
40 8.4.2 Opening the M edia Library Touch > Music to display the media librar y. The Music application organiz es your music files b y storage location. It contains four tabs: Artists , Albums , Songs and Playlists . 8.4. 3 Playi ng Music 1. Touch a category on th e music library screen.

If you already hav e a Google account, to uch Sign in and enter your user name and password. 9.1 Creating a Google Account If you do n ot have a Google account, you can creat e one: 1.

43 9.2.6 Customizing You r Gmail Settings In the mail list, touch , and then touch More > Settings to customizing you r Gmail . 9.3 Using Talk Talk is Google’s instant messaging service. You c an use it to communicate in real time with other people using Talk on a phone or on the web.
44 9.3.5 Setting Notifications for New Instant M essages Whenever you receiv e an instant message, your mobile ph one can play a sound, vibrate, or display an icon. To set up one of these handy not ifications, start in the friends list, and then touch .

47 10 Synchronizing Information Some applications on your mobile phone give you access to the same personal information th at you can add, view, and edit on your compu ter. If you add , change, o r delete your inf ormation in any of these applic ations on the web, the updated information also appears on your mobile phone.

52 7. Touch Done . Customizing Alarm Settings On the alarm list screen, touch , and then touch Settings . 11.3 Using the File Manager File Manager is like having a pocket-s ized personal a ssistant (PA) , letting you organize, edit, and dele te files and folders.
53 11.3.4 Doing a Quick Sea rch for a File 1. On the File Manager screen, touch a folder to access the direct ory where the file you want is located. 2. Press to open the o ptions panel, and then to uch Search . 3. Write a key word of th e name of your file or folder in the s earch box.

59 12.8 Resetting Your Mobile Phone 12.8.1 Backing Up M y Data You can use y our Google acco unt to back up your mobile phone’s settings to Google servers. If you replace your mobile phone, the settings you have backed up will be transferred t o the new mobile phone t he first time you sig n in to your Google acco unt.
