7 2.2 Setting Up Your Mobile Phon e 2.2. 1 Inst alli ng the Bat tery 1. Angle the edge labeled 1 (with the contacts) int o the bottom end of the batte ry compartment. 2. Push the edge labeled 2 into the compartment until th e battery clicks firmly into place.
8 Status Indicator The color of the status indicat or tells you the status of your mobile phone’s bat tery. 2.2. 3 Import ant I nformat ion Abo ut th e Batter y • If the battery has not been used for a long time, you may not be able to power on your mobile phone immediately af ter you begin charging the bat tery.
9 2.2.4 Power Saving Tips The longevity of battery power depends on the net work to which y ou connect, and how you use your mobile phone . Try the following to conserve ba ttery power: • When your mobile phone is n ot in use, turn off the s creen backlight.
10 Do not turn on Quick PowerOn while on an airpl ane. 2.3.4 Powering Off Your Mobile Ph one 1. Press and hold to open the Phone options menu. 2. Touch Power off . If Quick PowerOn is enabled, the phone will enter the deep sleep mode. If Quick PowerOn is disabl ed, touc h OK to shut down the phone.
11 2.5.2 Unlocking the S creen 1. Press to wake up the screen . 2. Drag the lock icon from left to right to unlock the scr een. If you have set up a screen unlock pattern, you w ill be prompted to dra w the pattern on the screen to unlock it.

Ope n the notification panel to see your network oper ator or to view a messag e, reminder, or event no tifica tion.
14 2.6.3 Viewing Other Parts of the Home Screen 2.6.4 Customizing the H ome Screen Adding a New Home Screen Item 1. Touch and hold a blank area on the Ho me screen until the Add to home screen menu is displayed. You can also touch > Add on the Home screen to display the Add to home screen menu.

19 3.2.2 Ending a Ca ll During a call, touch End to hang up. 3.2.3 Rejecting an Inco ming Call Drag to the left to reject the call. 3.3 Other Opera tions During a Call 3.3.1 Making a Conferenc e Call If you receive a new call while you are already on a call, you can connect the seco nd call to the call you are on.
20 3.3. 2 Switchi ng Betwee n Calls If you receive a new ca ll while you are alread y in a call, you can switc h between the two calls. 1. While you are in the firs t call and the second call comes in, answer the inc oming call, and then touch Manage calls .
21 4.1 Opening th e Contacts Application If you have not yet a dded any c ontacts to y our mobile phon e, Contacts displays a message with hi nts on how to s tart adding c ontacts inform ation. On the H ome screen , touch Contacts to open the Contacts application.
22 2. Enter the name of the contact you w ish to search for . As you type, contacts wit h matching names ap pear below the searc h box. On the contact list screen, you can touch a letter on the right to display contacts starting with the touc hed letter.
23 4.8 Deleting a Co ntact 1. In the contacts list, touch and hold th e contact that you want to delete, and then touch Delete contact in the options menu. 2. Touch OK to confirm that you wa nt to delete t he contact. 4.9 Managing G roups 4.9. 1 Creat ing a Gro up 1.
24 4.10 Joining and Sep arating Contacts You may have duplicate c ontacts if you import con tacts by: • Adding an account, s uch as a Gmail account. • Using other metho ds, such as exchang ing emails. To avoid duplication, join two or mor e contacts together to form a single c ontact.
25 4. Select the way you prefer to send the c ontacts you hav e selected, for example Bluetooth or Email. You can send one contact by another way. Touch and hold a contact, touch Send contact , and then select the way you prefer to send . 5 Using the Onscreen Keyboard 5.
26 On the Home screen, touch > Settings > Language & keyboard > Android keyboard > Voice input to turn on or turn off voice input. 5.1.3 Using the L andscape K eyboard If you find the keyboard inconvenient or difficult to use, turn your mobile phone sideways.
27 2. Enter a phone number or a contact's name in the To field, or touch to select a contact from Contacts or Groups . As you ente r the phone number or the contact's name, the phone displays possible matches f rom your contac ts. Select a contact from the list of pos sible matches or continue entering.
28 Adding a Slideshow If you want to attach more than one file to you r message, use the Slideshow option . 1. On the message editing screen, touch to display the op tions panel. 2. Touch Add > Slideshow , and then select a slide to star t editing it.
29 6.2 Email Your mobile phone also puts email at your fingertips. With your phone’s Email application, you can u se your email accou nt with Yahoo!, AOL, or other popular email services on your phone. 6.2.1 Adding an E mail Account When us ing the Email application for the first time , you must configure an email account.
30 6.2. 3 Saving an Email A ttachme nt 1. On the accounts screen, touch the ema il account you wa nt to use. 2. Touch the email message you want to view. 3. Touch Save next to the attachment in the email. 4. Select a path for saving the attac hment and touch Save .
31 6.2.7 Changing Em ail Account Settings You can change a number of account settings, including how often you ch eck for emails, how you ar e notified of a n ew mail, and details about the server s the account uses to send and receive mails . Your account’s inco ming and outgoing settings depend on the kind of email service you are using.
32 7.1.2 Turning on the D ata Service 1. Touch > Settings . 2. Touch Wireless & networks > Mobile networks . 3. Select the Data ena bled check box to turn on t he data connection . 7.2 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi gives you wireless ac cess to broadba nd Internet.
33 7.3 WPS The Wi-Fi Protected Setup (W PS) function simplifies the op erations to set up Wi-Fi networks and configure net work security set tings. When connecting to a Wi-Fi netw ork via WPS, ensure th at the Wi-Fi access point to be connected suppo rts the WPS funct ion.
34 Touch to ope n the browser options menu an d perform one of the following operations: • New window : Touch to open a new wind ow. • Bookmarks : Touch to display bookmar ks. • Windows : Touch to view thu mbnails of open browse r windows. You can switch to another browse r window or open a ne w one on this screen.
35 Opening a Bookmark 1. In a browser window, touch , and then touch Bookmarks . On the Bookmarks screen, touch the Histo ry tab to view the pages you have visited, or touch the Most visited tab to view the pages you have vis ited most frequently. 2. Touch the bookmark of the website you want to open.
36 • Object Push Pr ofile (OPP): allows you to transfer f iles over a Blue tooth connecti on. • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A 2DP): allows yo u to use a stereo Bl uetooth headset. • A/V Remote Control Prof ile (AVRCP): allows yo u to control audio play ing using a Bluetooth headset remotely.
37 8.1 Taking Pho tos and Reco rding Videos The camera is a c ombination of c amera and ca mcorder that y ou can use to shoot and share pictures and videos . 8.1.1 Opening You r Camera • Touch > Camera to open the camera. The camera opens in landsc ape mode, ready t o take a picture or r ecord a v ideo.
38 8.1. 3 Viewin g Your Ph otos 1. After taking a photo, a thumbnail of th e photo you have just taken is shown in the upper right corner of the capture scre en. Touch the thumbnail to v iew it. 2. Touch the onscreen button t o do any of the following : • Touch Share to send the photo in a message or pos t it online.

40 8.3 DTS Envelo™ DTS Envelo is a virtual s urround sound solution for consumer elec tronics. It can create virtual surround sou nd from any input source: mono, stereo, or 5.1 multi- channel. DTS can al so be activate d in > Settings > Sound > DTS mode .
41 8.4.3 Adding M usic to a Playlist 1. Fr om the music libr ary select a way to view you r music. 2. Press and hold a music file, and then touch Add to playlist . 8.4. 4 Playi ng Music in a Pl ayli st 1. In music library, touch Playl ists . 2. Press and hold the playlist you want to play.
42 6. Touch Create . 7. When the Google Terms of Service screen appear s, touch I agre e, next . 8. Enter the characters that appear on the scree n, and then touch Next . To use another Google acco unt, go to the Accounts & sync settings screen, and touch Add account to select w hich type of ac counts you w ant to add.
43 9.2. 4 Replyi ng to or Forwar ding an Email 1. In the mail list, touch the email that you wan t to reply to or forward. 2. Touch to reply. Y ou can a lso touch , and then touch Reply , Reply all , or Forward . 3. Do one of the following: • If you select ed Reply or Reply all , enter your me ssage.
44 9.3.3 Accepting an Invitation 1. If someone else has invited you to chat, this information will appear in the friends list. 2. Touch a pending invitation, and then touch Accept . 9.3. 4 Star ting a Cha t 1. In the friends list, touch a Gmail address in th e friends list.
45 9.4 Maps Maps lets you find your curren t location, view real-time traff ic conditions (depend ing on availability in your locale), and get deta iled directions to vari ous destinations. You can view satellite imag es, traffic map s, or other kinds of maps of your curr ent or other location s.
46 6. When you finish viewing or following t he directions, touch , and then touch Clear Map to reset the map. 9.5 YouTube™ YouTube is Google’s free onlin e video streaming service for watc hing, searching for , and uploading videos. 9.5.1 Opening Y ouTube On the Home screen, touc h > YouTube .
47 10.1 Managi ng Your Accoun ts You can synchronize co ntacts, email, and other info rmation on your mobile phone with multiple Google accounts o r other kinds o f accounts, depending o n the applications installed on your mobile phone.
48 3. Follow the instructions and enter the re quired information about the exchange account you wan t to add. For details, co ntact the server administrator. 4. Touch Next to display t he Account options screen. Configure the synchronization se ttings for this acc ount.
49 10.2.1 Configuring Gene ral Synchronization Settings On the Accounts & sync settings scre en, do t he foll owing: • Select or clear the Background data check box to control wh ether application s and services c an transmit data wh en you are not wo rking with them dir ectly (that is, when they are running in the bac kground).
50 11.1.1 Backing Up d ata by using Backu p to SD 1. On the Home screen, touch > All Backup . 2. Touch Backup to SD . 3. Enter a file name in the Filename: field. 4. In the Backup contents: field, select the conten t s you want to bac k up. 5. Touch Backup to back up the selected data.
51 4. Set the time of your event reminder in Reminders , and then specify in Repetition whether the event recu rs and, if it does, how frequently. 5. Touch Done . To quickly create an event in the Day , Week , or Month view, touch and hold an empty time slot, and then touc h New event .
52 • Set alerts & notifications : Touch to set event reminders to alert you , to send you a notification, or to turn off event not ifications on your mobile phone. • Select ringtone : Touch to s elect the ringtone to sound whe n you receive an event reminder.
53 4. Select the path where you want the file to be copied or moved. Pr ess to o pen the options panel, and then touch Paste to move or copy the file t o the selected path. 11.3.4 Searching for a F ile 1. On the File Manager screen, touch a folder to access the directory w here the file you want is located.
54 4. Touch OK to start extracting . 11.3.6 Viewing Your M emory Status On the File Manager screen, press to open the options panel, and then touch Memory Sta tus . The memory ma nagement screen will b e displayed. Th is screen allows you to view the memory status and available memory on your mobile phone and microSD card.
55 7. Touch Done . The alarm clock still works when the phone is powered off. Customizing Alarm Settings On the alarm list screen, tou ch , and then touch Settings . 11.5 Calculator Use Calculator to solve si mple arithmetic problems or use its ad vanced opera tors to solve more complex equat ions.
56 12.1 Setting the Date and Time By default, your mobile phone aut omatically uses the date, time, and time zone provided by the network . When your mobile phone is using the dat e and time settings provided automatically by the netwo rk, you cannot manually set the date, time, and time zone.
57 12.3 Setting Ringers 12.3.1 Turning On S ilent Mode 1. On the Settings screen, touch Sound . 2. Select the Silent mode check box to silence all sounds except alarms, and music and video media.

59 12.6 Protecting Your Mobile Ph one 12.6.1 Protecting Your Mobile Phone with a Screen Lock To keep your data more sec ure, lock the scre en and/or require a scr een unlock pattern every time your mobile phon e is t urned on or wake s up from sleep mode.
