2 Setting up your computer WARNING! To reduce the risk of electr ical shock or damage to your equipment: • Place the computer in a location away from water, dust, moisture, and soot. These can increase the inside temperatur e, or can cause fire or electrocution.
Connecting to the Internet Steps to connect to the Internet: 1. Connect the hardware as shown on the setup view. 2. Get Internet service. ● Sign up with an Internet Service Pr ovider (ISP). 3 Setting up additional features Using an HDMI monitor (select models only) If your computer has a graphics card with an HDMI (High Defi nition Multimedia Interface) connect or, Hewlett-Packa rd recommend s using a DVI or VGA connector for a monitor, and using HDMI to conn ect a TV.
4 Maintaining your computer Cleaning procedures Keeping your computer system free o f dust, dirt, and heat wil l prolong its life. ● Dust, pet hair, and other particles can build up, creating a bl anket effect; as a result, compo nents can overheat or, in the case of the keyboard and mouse, not work sm oothly and effectiv ely.
Cleaning the keyboard and mouse When cleani ng the keyboard k eys, use a low setting on a battery-powered v acuum cleaner , to avoid r emoving key cap s and spr ings.
