2 Installing and Customizing the Software If your computer was not shipped with a Micros oft operating s ystem, some port ions of this documentation do not ap ply. Additional information is availa ble in online help a fter you install the operating system.
4. Click on the Windows Update link. In Windows 7, the Windows Update screen appears. Click view ava ilable updates and make sure all critical update s are selected. Click the Install button and follow the instructions on th e screen. It is recommended that you install all of the critical updat es and service packs.

5 Identifying the Chassis, Routine Care, and Disassembly Preparation This chapter provides general service information for the computer. Ad herence to th e procedures and precautions described in this chapter is esse ntial for proper service.
Electrostatic Discharge Information A sudden discharge of static electricity f rom your fi nger or other conductor ca n destroy static-sensitive devices or microcircuitry.
● Place items on a grou nded surface before remo ving them from their container. ● Always be properly ground ed when touching a sen sitive component o r assembly. ● Avoid contact with pins, lea ds, or circuitry. ● Place reusable electrostatic- sensitive parts fro m assemblie s in protective p ackaging or conductive foam.

Screws The screws used in the computer are not intercha ngeable. They ma y have standard or metric threads and may be of different l engths. If an in correct sc rew is used during the reassembly process, it can damage the unit.

7 Removal and Replacement Procedures All-in One (AIO) Chassis The following sectio ns provide information about disassembling various co mponents of the HP Pro All-in-One. Preparing to Disassemble the Computer To avoid injury and equipment damage, always complete the fol lowing steps in order, when opening the HP Pro All-in-One.
Small Rear Cover The small rear cove r is located above the stand. You must remove it to remove the stand. To remove the small rear cover: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ). 2. Position the computer with the rear facing you.
Stand The stand is secured with three screws. To remove the stand: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ). 2. Position the computer with the rear facing you. 3. Remove the small rear cover (see Small Rear Cover on page 28 ).
Left Rear Cover The left rear co ver is located on th e left, rear of the computer. You must r emove it to a ccess the optical drive and th e hard drive. To remov e the left r ear cover: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).

If you need to remove the optical drive bra cket from th e rear of the optical drive: Figure 7 -5 Optical drive bracket 1. Remove the two screws that secu re the bracket to the drive. 2. Remove the bracke t from the drive. To install an optical drive, reverse the removal proced ures.

The hard drive is se cured with one captive screw a nd is housed in a removab le cage.
8. To remove the hard drive from the hard drive cage, remove th e four Phillips scr ews that secure the drive to the cag e, and then slide th e drive out of the cage. Figure 7-7 Removing the hard driv e from the hard dr ive cage To replace the hard drive, re verse the removal procedures.
Right Rear Cover The right rear cover is located on the ri ght, rear of the compu ter. You must remove it to a ccess memory and system board components. To remove the right rear cover: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).
Memory Description Spare part num ber 2 GB (PC3-10600, 1333-MHz) 651609-001 1 GB (PC3-10600, 1333-MHz) 651608-001 Memory modules are located on the right si de of the computer under the me mory cover. The computer has two stacked memory slots. To remove a memory module: 1.
7. Open both latches of the memory module socket (1) , and remove the memory mo dule from the socket (2) . Figure 7-10 Removing t he memory module NOTE: If you are removing bo th ca rds, you must remove the upper one before removing the lower one. To install a memory module, reverse th e removal proced ures.
Heat Sink (Thermal Module) Description Spare part num ber Heat sink (thermal module) 651607-001 The heat sink is secured with five screws and four clips. You have to remove the heat sink cover to access the heat sink. To remove the heat sin k: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).
8. In the order indicated by the numbers stamped into the h eat sink, remove the four screws (2) that secure the heat sink to the system board. 9. Remove the four clips (3) that secure the b ottom part of the heat sink over the graphics processor. NOTE: See the seco nd image below for a closer vi ew of the graphics hea t sink levers and hooks.

9. Carefully lif t the proce ssor from the socket (3) . CAUTION: Do NO T handle the pins in the processor socket. These pins are very fragile a nd handling them co uld cause irreparable damage. Once pins a re damaged it ma y be necessary to replace the system bo ard.
WLAN Module Description Spare part num ber WLAN module (802.11b/g/n) (1x1 mini card) 634906-001 The WLAN modu le is connected to the system board. The module is secured with two screws and has one connected antenna . To remove the WLAN module: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).
8. Lift the module to a 45 -degree angle, and then remove it from the system board. Figure 7-15 Removing the WLAN module To install the WLAN modu le, reverse the remov al procedures. NOTE: WLAN modules are designed with a no tch to prevent incorrect in sertion.
Webcam Module Description Spare part num ber Webcam module 651586-001 The webcam modu le is located at th e top of the computer. It is loca ted below an upp er cover, is secured with two screws, and has one connector. To remove the web cam module: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).
9. Disconnect the webcam cable from the module. Figure 7-18 Disco nnecting the web cam module cable 10. Remove the module from the com puter. To install a webcam mo dule, reverse the re moval procedures.
Rear Cover The rear cover is secured wit h five screws. You must pry it off at the seams around the edges of th e computer, starting at the bo ttom. To remove the rear coverl: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).
9. Pry the cover off at the top covers (2) , and then work around the rema inder of the computer prying the cover off (3) . Figure 7-20 Removing the rear cover 10. Remove the rear cove r from the computer. To replace the rear cove r, re verse the removal procedures.
Inverter Board Description Spare part num ber Inverter board 651601-001 The inverter board is lo cated on the le ft side of t he computer und er the rear cover. It is secured wi th two screws and has three connectors. To remove the inverter board: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).

Power Button Board Description Spare part num ber Power button board 651585-001 The power button board is mounted on the left side of the comp uter. It is secured with two screw s and has one connector. To remove the powe r button board: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).
System Board Shield The system board shield sits above the sys tem board. It is secured with two screws. To remove the system board shield: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ). 2. Remove the small rear cover (see Small Rear Cover on page 28 ).
Fan Description Spare part num ber Fan 651606-001 The fan is loca ted near the top of th e computer. It is secured with three screws. To remove the fan: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).

Speakers Description Spare part num ber Speaker, right 651597-001 Speaker, left 651598-001 The speakers are located at the bottom of the co mputer. Two separa te speakers are each secure d by two screws. The left speaker con nects to the right speaker, and the right sp eaker connects to the system board.
9. Disconnect the spea ker cables from the system board co nnectors. The right speaker cable connector is black, the l eft speaker cable conne ctor is white.

11. Lift the system board straight up and out of the computer (2) . Figure 7-27 Removing the system board To install the system board, re verse the removal procedures. When replacing the system board, note that there are three thermal pads un der the board.
Stand Bracket The stand bracket is secured with four screws. Re moving it allows access to the fans, heat sink, processor, and optional T V tuner. To remove the stand bracket: 1. Prepare the compu ter for disassembly (see Preparing to Disassemb le the Comput er on page 27 ).
Drive Connectors The drive connecto rs are located near the middle of the co mputer, below th e fan. They are secured with two screws and each has two connectors. You mu st remove the sh ield to remove the drive connectors. This section provid es instruction s for removing both dr ive connecto rs.
11. Remove the cables from the cli ps built into the compu ter. 12. Remove the drive connector from the computer. To install the hard dr ive connecto r, reverse the removal procedures.
10. Remove the six screws that secure the bezel to the computer. Figure 7-30 Removing the front beze l 11. Disconnect the power button assem bly from the bezel by flexing the tabs (1) that secure it to the bezel and lifting it off the beze l (2) .
