5 Before using the bac kup sensors, make sure you read and understand the operation and limitations of the system as discussed throughout this manual. • The backup sensors are designed to provide an audib le sound when they detect large stationar y objects while the vehicle is mo ving in rev erse at low speed.
6 How the Bac kup Sensors W ork Backup Sensor s The sensors are ready for oper ation when the backup sensor s witch is ON, and the shift lev er is moved into the re verse position.
7 4709010Y The sensor system is designed to aler t you with a buzzer beep when the rear bumper is nearing an obstacle. The buzzer beep has three sounds: Corner Sensors: Center Sensors: Buzzer Slow intermittent beeps Quick intermittent beeps Continuous beep Center Sensor Distance Within 4.
8 How the Bac kup Sensors W ork The sensors detect the nearest rear obstacle. The corner sensor detects the side wall. When towing a trailer , the audible signal may k eep sounding if the shift lev er is mov ed to the rev erse position. When this occurs, turn the backup sensor switch OFF .
9 Limitations The system may not sense thin or lo w objects or sonic-absorptive materials such as snow , cotton, or sponge. Examples: The system may not function properl y under these condition s : • After the vehicle has been sitting out in hot or cold weather .
10 Limitations • The sensors are covered with snow , ice, mud, etc. • When the vehicle is on a rough road, on grass, or climbing a hill. • When the system is affected b y electrical equipment or devices generating an ultrasonic wa ve. • When operating the v ehicle in bad weather .
11 Care of the Backup Sensor s Wipe the sensors clean with a clean cloth. Flush with low-pressure water if the sensors are clogged with mud or dir t. Do not spray high-pressure w ater against the sensors.
12 8109011B Operation 3. T ur n the backup sensor switch ON. The switch is located on the left rear pillar ne xt to the tailgate. 4. Mov e the shift lev er to rev erse. Confirm that the buzzer beeps f or about one second when moving the shift le ver to rev erse.
13 Operation 7611020X 5. With one of the doors open, check that the buzz er beeps by slowly moving a board close to each sensor as described: Corner sensors: F rom 2.0 feet (60 cm) Center sensors: F rom 4.9 feet (150 cm) Confirm the obstacle detecting range of each sensor .
14 T roubleshooting With Beeps When you turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and the backup sensor b uzzer beep more than once, there may be a prob lem with one of the sensors. Corner Sensors T wo f ast beeps: right sensor is f aulty . Three fast beeps: left sensor is faulty .
15 P erform the follo wing checks if the buzz er does not beep when the vehicle is nearing an obstacle. If either of the follo wing problems persist, hav e the system check ed by your Honda dealer . • The buzzer beeps contin uously when the shift lev er is in the rev erse position, and the sensors are not frozen or clogged with snow or mud.
