–5– INST ALLA TION, OPERA TION AND CARE OF MODEL HM1600 MICROW A VE OVEN GENERAL Microwave heat is generated inside the food rather than being conducted through the food as in conventional methods. Time is used to control the amount of heating that occurs.
–6– INST ALLA TION UNPACKING Immediately after unpacking the microwave oven, check for possible shipping damage. If this oven is found to be damaged, save the packaging material and contact the carrier within 15 days of delivery.
–7– ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Before making electrical connections, verify that the electrical service agrees with the specifications on the data plate on the lower right side as you face the oven. Grounding Instructions This appliance must be grounded electrically.
–8– OPERA TION CONTROLS (FIG. 3) POWER LEVEL — Touch the pad to change to the next power level: HI MED LOW DEF HOLD. (HOLD does not apply any microwave heating; it allows time to pass so that heat from a previous cooking stage can conduct through the product.

–1 0– Manual Single Stage Heating Example: Heat for 1 minute 30 seconds at MEDIUM power. • Open the door and place the food inside the oven. Close the door. Timer display shows [ 0 ]. • Touch the POWER LEVEL pad until the indicator above MED is lit.
–1 1– Manual 2 or 3 Stage Heating Example: Heat for 1 minute 30 seconds at MEDIUM power (1st stage) and then heat for 2 minutes at DEFROST (2nd stage). • Open the door and place food inside the oven. Close the door. The Timer display shows [ 0 ].
–1 2– Programmed Heating Example: Microwave for 1 minute on HIGH power (1 stage heating). Memory Pad A – 5 was preset for 1 minute on HIGH power (see Factory Preset, page 9). • Open the door and place food inside the oven. Close the door. Timer display shows [ 0 ].
–1 3– Programming Memory Pads Example: To program memory pad A – 5 to DEFROST for 3 minutes. • Remove the left air filter (refer to Cleaning Air Filters for removal instructions). Press the PROG button. If no PROG indication appears in the display, Program Lock should be cancelled.

–1 5– Program Lock This feature allows you to lock the memory pads’ power levels and heating times and allows one touch operation of the oven (pressing START is not required). 1. Remove the right air filter. 2. Press and hold in the PROG LOCK button for 5 seconds until the display shows PROG P L .
–1 6– List Memory This feature allows you to review all memory pad power levels and heating times for all three cooking stages. 1. Open the door and leave it open.
–1 7– Programming Beep Tone Loudness The Beep tone can be set at one of three levels of loudness or be silent. 1. Remove air filters. 2. Press PROG. 3. Press BEEP (once to select 3 Loud) (twice to select 2 Moderate) (three times to select 1 Soft) or (four times to select 0 Silent).
–1 8– To Read the Cycle Counter The oven can display the total number of times it has operated. 1. Remove the air filters. 2. Open the door. 3. Close the door. Perform the next step within 60 seconds before the display goes blank. 4. While pressing BEEP, press PROG at the same time.
–1 9– Cleaning WARNING : UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Keep the inside of the oven clean. If pieces of food or spilled liquids stick to the oven walls, or between the door seal and the door surface, they will absorb microwaves and may cause arcing or sparks.
