10 REMOTE OPERA TION • Install batteries in the remote contro l The remote control re quires two "A A " batteri es. 1 Insert your fingertip into the notch and push the battery compartment lid to remove it.

17 SETTING THE CLOCK -AUTOMA TIC MODE Note: An antenna or cable m ust be connected to the VCR bef ore y ou begin this operation. • Tips You'll need to set the clock when f irst hooking up your VCR, and any tim e the power goes out for m ore than 1 hour.
18 Notes: • If the cloc k is not set af ter about five m inutes have elapsed, the clock mus t be set manually (see page 20). • W hen the VCR power is r estored after a power f ailure of m ore than one hour, the clock will indicate "--:--", and the clock set procedure ( automatic or m anual) m ust be repeated.
19 4 Make su re that item 1 is high lighted "CLOCK SET <A UTO>". • If "CLOCK SET <MANUAL>" is highlighted, press the (1) button to switch it to "CLOCK SET <AUTO>". 5 Press the (2) button. This screen appears to s how that the clock is being s et.

Press the G UIDE and (3) buttons then press the (4) button to specif y another option, then set the tim e again. SETTING THE CLOCK -MANUA LLY To set the clock manually 1 Press the GUIDE b utton.
22 5 Press the number buttons to fill the hour and minutes. • For tim es with only one number (1-9) press the (0) button first, then the hour or minute. For exam ple, if it is now 10:20AM, press (1)(0) (2)(0). "AM" and "PM" will now appear on the scr een.
23 Notes: • The cloc k uses the 12- hour sy stem . You set it for AM or PM. • An illogical tim e (like 13 f or the hour or 20 f or the month) will not be acc epted. • If you press the wrong digit, exit the sc reen by pressing G UIDE and recall the screen to enter the correct setup.
24 5 Press the (1) b utton to select the type of receiv ing setup you hav e: <CATV1> Ordinary cable <ANT> Internal or exter nal antenna <CATV2> Alternate cable (If CATV1 doesn't give you the channels you expect). 6 Press the (2) button.
25 Channel Caption (Station Identifier) W hen your VCR is receiving a c hannel caption signal that is transm itted by a local br oadcasting station together with a TV program , a station identifier is displayed on the TV screen.

32 If your videocassette has the s afety tab removed, the VCR will stop and autom atically rewind the videocass ette, eject it, and turn of f the power when it reaches the end of the tape or blank sec tion of the tape which lasts f or mor e than 30 seconds.

35 Notes: • Use the CH ( or ) button to m inimize any visual noise bands on the screen. • After 1 m inute in slow motion playback, the VCR will stop the tape autom atically to prevent damage to the tape and VCR. Visual Search This function let you search back ward and forward through the videotape while viewing it.
36 3 Press the (4) b utton to select "HIFI" or "LINEA R". • Select Hi-Fi to playback sound rec orded on the Hi-Fi track and for nor mal use. The L and R indic ators will light in the VCR's display panel. • Select LINEA R to play back the sound rec orded on the linear monaur al track.
37 • The INDEX search scr een is displayed, and the tape rew i nds or f ast for w ards until an index mar k is detected. • A black square in the tape bar shows the cur rent tape position. • W hen the VCR f inds an index mar k, it plays 15 seconds of the pr ogram that begins at that s pot.

46 INSTA NT RECORDING TIMER Using the Instant Recording Timer (IRT) The Ins tant Recording Tim er (REC/IRT button on the VCR) will let y ou mak e a sim plified tim er recording without having to use the program m ing timer. In order to set the IRT properly the clock m ust be set bef ore starting.
47 Assem ble the inform ation you need for timed r ecording: • Be sure that the clock is set to the correct tim e • Date and day of the pr ogram • Starting time • Ending time • Channel to be.

51 Your local channels m ay be diff erent from the VCR Plus+ channel c odes. To get ready to record with the VCR Plus+ system you need to assign your local broadcast and c able channel numbers to the VCR Plus+ channel codes already stored in your VCR's mem ory.
