Before You Begin 15 How to Open and Close the Case 1. Push the lever on the snap and hold it, then release the snap in the direction of the arrow . Note: Af ter using the camer a/recorder, wipe off the sand or w ater droplets carefully from the case before opening it.

Before You Begin 17 To Prevent Condensation W hen the camera/recorder is mov ed f rom a cold place to a w arm place, leave i t f or a w hile until it reaches the ambient temper ature before opening the case. Be careful that no water dr oplets or snow flakes enter w hen opening the case.
Getting Started 18 Getting Sta rted This section guides you thr ough the initial preparation of the camera/r ecorder. None of these processes are com plex. Set aside some time, relax, and fam iliarize yourself with this quality instrum ent. Enjoy getting to know all about your Hitachi 8mm camera/recorder .

Getting Started 20 Charging time 8.5 hours (maximum) Using an Optional Car A dapter/Charger (Hit achi VM-CA 500A) 1. Connect the car adapter/char ger to the car' s cigarette lighter socket. The power li ght turns on. 2. Attach the battery to the car adapter/charger.
Getting Started 21 unable to take a charge and must be r eplaced. Do not attach a hot battery to the AC adapter/charg er. Allow it to cool . Do not use a battery w ith a crack or any abnormalities in its appearance. THERE ARE NO USER -SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE THE BATTERY OR AC ADAPTER/CH ARGER.
Getting Started 22 A ttaching the Optional Wide or Tele Converter Lens 1. To remove the lens hood, turn i t counterclockwise. 2. Remove both caps of the conver ter lens. 3. Screw the l ens into the threads on the camera/recorder lens assembl y. Note: T he wide and tele conv erter lenses (optional) are not water-resistant.
Getting Started 23 Note: Replace the remote control battery with 3V micro l ithium cells such as Maxel l CR2025 or its equi valent. Note: Dispose of battery safely in accor dance with l ocal laws. Do not dispose of in fire. Edit Remote Control Batteries Be sure to install tw o "AA" size batteries before use.
Getting Started 24 Removing the Battery 1. Push the BATT EJECT lever to open the battery compartment cover. 2. Push the battery r elease lever in the dir ection of the arrow; the battery will come out. Pull the battery forward to rem ove it. Note: T he battery is ejected by the f orce of a spring.
Getting Started 25 adheres to the term inal, use the brush (provided) or a soft cloth to wipe it off completely. AC Adapter/Char ger Hookup 1. Plug the AC adapter /charger power cord into an AC outlet. Make sure that the wide bl ade f its into the wi de slot.
Getting Started 26 4. Push the cassette holder, w hich is embossed PUSH on the left hand side, until it "clicks" into place. The cassette holder will go down automatically closes. Caution: Do not push the holder dow n, or you may damag e your camera/recorder .

Getting Started 28 Using Memory The linear ti me counter mem ory stops a rewinding tape at approxi mately 0:00:00M. This feature hel ps in locating a specific point i n the tape to which you wish to retur n.

Connecting to a Television with a VCR A ttached 1. Connect the prov ided AV stereo output cord to the AUDIO IN and VIDEO IN jacks of your VCR.

Advanced T echniques 42 Using the Digital Zoom The digital z oom increases the m agnification of the optical z oom. You must place the subj ect you wish to magnify at the center of the viewfi nder. Note: T his digital z oom has certain limitations and may degradate at extr eme magnificati on and amplify camer a/recorder's movement.
Advanced T echniques 43 The auto focus will not work under the following conditions and you must focus manually: Objects outside the center of the vi ewfinder Objects at different distances in the center of the view finder Brightl y lit objects such as a neon lig ht, objects lit by spotlight, etc.

Using the Electronic Image Stabilizer The electronic image stabiliz er (EIS) corrects slight shaking of the image being recorded and i s effective in the following situati ons.

W hile the camera is in r ecord/pause mode hold down the F.FW D, REW , or PLAY button and v isually search the tape.

Advanced T echniques 51 It is necessary to program the edit remote contr o l code to match the VCR before starting edi ting. 1. Turn the VCR on. 2. Aim the remote control at the inf rared recei ver on the VCR and press the VCR SET button on the remote control and hold it, then press the button corresponding to the VCR's maker code.
Advanced T echniques 52 Note: Point the remote control straig ht at the VCR's infrar ed receiv er f or operation. Note: Use the remote control indoors. W hen the inf rared recei vers of the VCR and camera/r ecorder are ex posed to direct sunlight or strong artificial light, the r emote control may not operate corr ectly.
