13 Chapter II: System and Network Setup 2-1 Build Network Connection Please follow the following instructions to build the network connection between your new HD45B access point and your computers and other network devices: 1. Connect your HD45B to the network port of your computer or connect wirelessly to it.
14 2 ‐ 2 Definitions of Du al Ban d and HD4 5B Supported Mo d es 2.4GHz vs 5GHz The HD45B supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. 2.4GHz is the most comm o nly used wireless bandwidth. It also has a very narrow range of channels, usually between 1-11.
15 devices wirelessly with your network. It wi ll not broadcast any W iFi signal. It will only make a wireless connection between the Access P oint and the HD45B. The HD45B will only connect to either 2.4GHz or a 5G Hz network. AP Bridge – Point to Point: Similar to stat ion- infrastructure, this requires two HD45B’ s on each end.
16 AP Bridge WDS : W ireless Distribu ting System. This allows you to create a wireless network using up to four HD45B’ s using the same SSID (wireless na me).
17 2-3 Connecting to the HD45B via W eb Browser After the network connection is built, the next step you should do is setup the access point with proper network para meters, so it can work properly in your network environment. Before you can connect to the access poin t and start configuration procedures, your computer must be set to s tatic IP .
18 2-3-1 W indows 95/98/Me IP address setup 1. C lick ‘Start’ button (it should be lo cated at lower -left corner of your computer), then click c ontrol panel. Double-click Network icon, and Network window will appear . Select ‘TCP/I P’, then click ‘Properties ’.

30 2-4 ‘Quick Setup’ This access point provides a ‘Quick Set up’ procedure, which will help you to complete all required settings you need to access the Internet in very short time. Please follow the follo wing instructions to co mplete the ‘Quick Setup’: Please go to Quick Setup W izard menu by clicking ‘Q uick Setup’ button.

Otherwise, the default IP Address is 192.168.1.241 When you finish with all settings, press ‘Next’ . If the network you selected was a secure ne twork, please enter the wireless password here.

46 Chapter III General Setup In this chapter , you’ll know how to change the major settings of the HD45B. Log onto the device and click on ‘General Setup’.
47 3-1 T ime zone and time auto-synchr onization Please follow the following instructions to set time zone and time auto-synchronization parameters: Please click ‘General Setup’ at the top of web m anag ement interface, select ‘Syste m’ on the left hand column, and select ‘ T ime Zone’.
48 3-2 Change Management password Default password of this access point is ‘1234’, and it’ s displayed on the login prompt when accessed fro m the web browser . There’ s a security risk if you don’t change the default password, since every one can see it.

51 3-3 W ired LAN Configur ation Before all computers using wi red Ethernet connection (i.e. those computers connected to this access point’ s LAN port 1 to 5 by Ethernet cable) c an communicate with e ach other and access Internet, they must have a valid IP a dd ress.
52 Please click ‘General Setup’ at the top of web manag ement interface and click ‘Local Network’ on the left hand column. There are two setup groups here: ‘LAN IP’ and ‘DHCP Server ’ 3-3-1 Local Network IP addr ess (1): Please input the IP addr ess of this access point.
53 3-3-2 DHCP Server: These setting s are only available when ‘DHCP Server ’ in ‘LAN IP’ section is ‘Enabled’. Lease T ime (1): Please choose a lease time (the dura tion that every computer can keep a specific IP ad dr es s) of every IP address assi gned by this access point fr om dropdown menu.
54 NOTE: 1. The number of the last field (mentioned ‘d’ field) of ‘End IP’ must be greater than ‘S tart IP’, and can not be the same as router’s IP address.
55 3-4 W ir eless Network If your computer , PDA, game console, or other network devices is equipped with a wireless network adapter , you can use the wi reless function of this access point to let them con nect to the Internet and share resources with other co mputers.
56 3-4-1 Basic W ireless Settings Please click ‘General Setup’ me n u at the top of web m an agement interface, then click ‘2.4GHz W ireless Configuration’ or ‘5GHz W ireless Configuration’ on the left hand column. Choose ‘Basic Settings’.
57 NOTE: If you don’t have special reason to limit the ty p e of allowed wireless clients, it’ s recommende d to choose ‘2.4 GHz (B+G+N) and 5GHz (A+N) to maximize wire less client comp atibility . 2.4GHz 2.4 GHz (B) 2.4GHz band, only allows 802.
58 ESSID (2): This is the name of wireless access point. Y ou can type any alphanumerical characters her e, maximum 32 characters. ESSID is used to identify your own wireless access point fr om others when there ar e other wir eless access points in the same area.
59 Please click ‘Go Back’ to go back to previous s etup menu; to continue on acces s point setup, or click ‘Apply’ to reboot the access point so the settings will take effec t.
60 3-4-1-2 S tation-Infrastructure (Bridge) The HD45B will allow you conn ect wired de vices wirelessly to an existing wireless router or access point. It will “bridge” the se devices wirelessly wi th your ne twork. It will not broadcast any W iFi signal.
61 3 ‐ 4 ‐ 1 ‐ 3 AP Bridge ‐ Po int to Po in t Similar to station-infrastructure, this requires two HD45B’ s on ea ch end. This will create a wireless bridge between these two points. No W iFi signal will be broadcast and it will only make a wireless connection between tho se two points.
62 3-4-1-4 AP Bridge-Po int to Multi-Point Simil ar to AP Bridge – Po int to P oint, t his allo ws you to conn ect sever al HD4 5B’ s to one point. No W iFi signal will be broadcast and it will only make a wireless connection between th e HD45Bs. Band (2): Select the band you want to use, all HD 45B’ s must u se the same setting.
63 3-4-1-5 AP Bridge-WDS W ireless Distributing System. This allows you to create a wireless network using up to four HD45B’ s using the same SSID (wireless name). It will broadcast a W iFI signal. Band (2): Select the band you want to use, all the HD45B’ s m ust use the same setting.

65 3-4-2 Advanced Wir eless Settings This access point provides som e advanc ed cont rol of wire less parameters, if you want to configure these setting s, please click ‘General Setup’ at the to p of web management interface and click ‘Wireless Configuration’ on th e left hand column.

68 3-4-3 Security Settings It is important to set your wireless security settings properly! If you do not configure a wireless security setting, unauthorized users can use your network and /or obtain valuable data without y our consent.
69 Key Length (2): Ther e ar e two typ es of WEP key length: 64-bit and 128-bit. Using ‘128-bit’ is safer than ’64-bit’, but will reduce some data transfer performance. Key Format (3): Ther e ar e two typ es of key format: ASCII and Hex. When you select a key format, the number of characters of key will be displayed.

74 3-4-4 Wir eless Ac cess Control This function will help you prevent unauthorized users fro m connecting to your wireless access point; only those wireless devices who have a MA C address you assigned can gain a ccess to your wireless access point.

When the device sends out an IP packet, if the destination is not on the same network, the device has to send th e packet to its default gateway , which will then send it out towards the destination.
