42 OPERA TION Operation Note that the Dolby Digital or DTS modes may only be selected when a digital input is in use . In addition, when a digital source is present, the A VR will automatically select and switch to the correct mode (Dolby Digital or DTS), regardless of the mode that has been previously selected.
OPERA TION 43 ENGLISH Selecting a Digital Source T o utilize either digital mode you must have properly connected a digital source to the A VR. Connect the digital outputs from DVD players , HDTV receivers , satellite systems or CD players to the Optical or Coaxial inputs on the rear or front panel *Ó .

T he A VR has been tested for operation with Windows Media Player ® V ersion 8.0 and above , but it is also compatible with many other popular players such as iT unes ® , WinAmp ® and Real Player ® .

46 OPERA TION Operation Output Level Adjustment With Sour ce Signals Normal output level adjustment for the A VR is established using the test tone, as out- lined on page 36. In some cases , however , it may be desirable to adjust the output levels using program material such as a test disc, or a selec- tion you are familiar with.
ADV ANCED FEATURES 47 ENGLISH T he A VR is equipped with a number of advanced features that add extra flexibility to the unit’ s operation. While it is not necessary to use these features to operate the unit, they provide addi- tional options that you may wish to use .
48 ADV ANCED FEATURES Advanced Featur es Semi-OSD Settings T he semi-OSD system places one line messages at the lower third of the video display screen whenever the Volume , Input Source , Surround mode or tuner frequency of any of the configura- tion settings are changed.
MUL TIROOM OPERA TION 49 ENGLISH Multiroom Oper ation Multiroom Operation T he A VR is fully equipped to operate as the con- trol center for a complete multiroom system that is capable of sending one source to a second zone in the house while separate source is listened to in the main room.
50 MUL TIROOM OPERA TION Multiroom Oper ation Infrared Output Selection T he A VR enables you to select which IR input will be used to feed the Full Carrier IR Output . T he factory default setting is the IR signal that is fed to the Multiroom IR Input , but you may select other options .
TUNER OPERA TION 51 ENGLISH T uner Oper ation Basic T uner Operation T he A VR’ s tuner is capable of tuning AM, FM and FM Stereo broadcast stations and receiving RDS data. Stations may be tuned manually, or they may be stored as favorite station presets and recalled from a 30 position memory .

In addition, it is also preprogrammed to oper ate most recent Harman Kardon DVD players and changers , CD players and changers , CD recorders and cassette decks .
54 PROGRAMMING THE REMO TE Progr amming the Remote Although the A VR remote is preprogrammed with an extensive library of codes for many major brands , it is also possible that you may have attempted to program a product that is too new or too old, and thus not all of its commands will be in the code library .

This is logical, as you want the remote to control the device you have selected.
