Audacity is the reco rding and editing softwa re program included with your VINYL WRITER PRO turntabl e . Y ou must i nstall Audacity (or an alte rnative recording softwa re) on your computer to record audio from your VINYL W RITER PRO to your computer .
A u d a c i t y f o r P C Set Up Wizard: How to Set Up w ith PC T o open the Set Up Wizard and install Audacit y to your computer fo llow these steps: 1. Insert the Audacity software disk that comes w ith your unit. Go to My Computer and double click the CD ROM Drive.
Inst alling Audacit y Sof tware on your PC 1. The Audacity Setup Wizard will appear , Click on Next > to begin the sof tware inst all process . 2. Click on “I accept the agreement” a nd click on Next.
3. Continue to click on the Next> buttons. 8.
NOTE: be sure the box beside the Create a desktop icon is selecte d so that a shortcut to the Audacity program is saved on your Desktop. 4. Click on the Install b utton to start install ation.
5. Click on Finish to complete installation. 6. Y ou can now open the Audacity sof tware and start recordin g your files using Audacity: NOTE: Once inst alled, you should NOT have to re-install the Audacity software agai n.
Audacity Control Panel & C onfiguring Audacity Settings Audacity Control Panel Buttons & Setting s The Audacity control panel is the interface to apply recordin g settings & operate recording controls.
Configuring Settings for PC (Windows) Y ou should be able to connec t your VINYL W RITER PRO to your computer with the USB cord, power on your turnt a ble then open Audacity , press play on your play , record on the Audacity control p anel and begin to record.
NOTE: Alternative device sele ctions may include “Microsof t Sound Mapper” that may offer an alternative qu ality recording device. Under the Channels Section: ¾ Click on the “Channel” drop down menu and select 2 (S tereo). NOTE: IF you select 1 (Mono) all recordin gs will be in mono tone.
Recording to a PC T o record audio to y our computer: 1. Place your album on the turnt able platter and align the cartridge slightly ahead of the t rack you want to begin recording. Lowe r the cartridge (needle) to the album. 2. Click the Record button to start recording.

Audio Playback & Special Windows Set Up (Windows 7) In some insta nces audio may NOT be heard from your computer ’s spea kers during the recording process or during playba ck. 1. NO AUDIO during PLA YBACK When the T urntable is connecte d to your PC over the USB, the default playback d evice changes to the USB Audio CODEC whil e connected.
2. NO AUDIO during RECO RDI NG Audio may NOT be heard from the your comput er spe akers when recording (downloading ) from your VINYL WRITER PRO to your PC.
Windows 7 (& V ista system s): Recording Level Adjustment s RECORDING: IF the fluctu ant wave does not appear on the Aud acity Control Panel, or if the audio is distorted when recording, adjust th.
¾ In the Sound window , select the “Recording” tab. ¾ Select a recording device. RECOMME NDA TION: sele ct Microphone of USB Audio CODEC as shown in the example below and click “Properties”.
¾ Select “Levels” and adjust the V olume Reading . The reading is from 0 to 1 00. Normally the level should be 3-8. However , you may indicate on the Inp ut Level Indicator in the Audacity control panel that the level does not exceed 0. Then cli ck “OK” on Microphone properties and sound interface.
Audacity for Mac Set Up Wizard: How to Set Up & Record to Mac 1. Insert the Audacity software disk incl uded with your unit. Click the Audacity disk on the Desktop. There are five folders in the Audacity disk. Double click Audacity_for_MA C for Macintosh system, and select Audacity_f or_WIN for Windows sy stem.
Audacity Sof tware & USB Connection Y our Mac and Audacity must recognize your USB connection to your VINYL WRITER PRO turntable. Therefore, always turn on your computer and connect the USB cabl e to the turntable’ s and the computer’s USB port.
At the top of the main Audacity window , to the right of the play control buttons, you will see the input and output level meters (labeled L and R). Under the output level meter is an icon that looks like a microphone. Next to the micropho ne is a black arrow that points do wn.
¾ Select the box beside Software Playthro ugh Play new track while reco rding it ¾ Select the box beside Hardware Playthrough Play new track while recording it ¾ Click “OK” Note: IF you do not find “microphone (USB Audio CODEC)” as a selection, close Audacity , unplug and plug-in the US B cord to your PC and open Audacity again.
¾ When the recording is com plete, click the STOP ( ) button on the control panel and return the tone arm to the rest posit ion on your turntable. ¾ Y our recording is now downloaded as a data file on your computer . ¾ Y ou may play back the recording on you r comput er using Audacity , click ( ) to play .
