Important Safety Instructions Self-Cleaning Oven • Do not clean the oven door gasket. The door gasket is essential for a good seal. Care should be taken not to rub, damage or move the gasket. • Do not use oven cleaners. 8 HOW DOES THIS COOKT OP COMP ARE WITH YOUR OLD ONE? T ype of Cooktop Description How It W orks Electric Coil Flattened metal Heats by direct contact with the pan and by heating the air under the pan. For best tubing containing cooking results, use good quality pans.
9 SURF ACE COOKING Y our surface units and controls are designed to give you an infinite choice of heat settings for surface unit cooking. At both OFF and HI the control “clicks” into position. When cooking in a quiet kitchen, you may hear slight “clicking” sounds—an indication that the heat settings you selected are being maintained.
10 SURF ACE COOKW ARE TIPS W ok Cooking W e recommend that you use only a flat-bottomed wok. They are available at your local retail store. Do not use woks that have support rings. Use of these types of woks, without the support ring in place, is dangerous because the wok is unstable.
HOME CANNING TIPS Canning should be done on surface units only . In surface cooking, the use of pots extending more than one inch beyond the edge of the surface unit’ s drip pan is not recommended. However , when canning with a water-bath or pressure canner , lar ge-diameter pots may be used.

Shows the operations you have selected, the time of day and the cooking or cleaning status. 3. INCREASE. Short taps to this pad increase the time or temperature by small amounts.
Featur es of Y our Oven Contr ol Oven Contr ol, Clock and Timer OVEN CONTROL, CLOCK AND TIMER Clock T o Set the Clock The clock must be set for the automatic oven timing functions to work properly . The time of day cannot be changed during a T imed Baking or Self- Cleaning cycle.

Using Y our Oven Baking 15 BAKING Y our oven temperature is controlled very accurately using an oven control system. W e recommend that you operate the range for a number of weeks using the time given on recipes as a guide to become familiar with your new oven’ s performance.
Baking Pans Pan Placement Use the proper baking pan. The type of finish on the pan determines the amount of browning that will occur . • Dark, rough or dull pans absorb heat resulting in a browner , crisper crust. Use this type for pies. • Shiny , bright and smooth pans reflect heat, resulting in a lighter , more delicate browning.
17 Don’t Peek Set the timer for the estimated cooking time and do not open the door to look at your food. Most recipes provide minimum and maximum baking times such as “bake 30-40 minutes.
How to Set Delay Start and Automatic Stop T o avoid possible burns, place the shelves in the correct position before you turn the oven on. Y ou can set the oven control to delay-start the oven, cook for a specific length of time and then turn off automatically .
19 T imed Baking Adjust the Oven Thermostat ADJUST THE OVEN THERMOST A T— DO IT YOURSELF! Y ou may find that your new oven cooks differently than the one it replaced. W e recommend that you use your new oven for a few weeks to become more familiar with it, following the times given in your recipes as a guide.
20 ROASTING Roasting is cooking by dry heat. T ender meat or poultry can be roasted uncovered in your oven. Roasting temperatures, which should be low and steady , keep spattering to a minimum. Roasting is really a baking procedure used for meats. Therefore, the oven controls are set for Baking or T imed Baking.
21 Questions and Answers Q. Is it necessary to check for doneness with a meat thermometer? A. Checking the finished internal temperature at the completion of cooking time is recommended.
Q. Should I salt the meat before br oiling? A. No. Salt draws out the juices and allows them to evaporate. Always salt after cooking. Piercing the meat with a fork also allows the juices to escape. T urn the meat with tongs instead of a fork. Q. When broiling, is it necessary to always use a grid in the pan? A.
23 BROILING GUIDE • Always use the broiler pan and grid that comes with your oven. It is designed to minimize smoking and spattering by trapping the juices in the shielded lower part of the pan. • The oven door should be open to the broil stop position.
24 OPERA TING THE SELF-CLEANING OVEN Normal Cleaning T ime: 3 hours Befor e a Clean Cycle W e recommend venting with an open window or using a ventilation fan or hood during the first self- cleaning cycle.
25 How to Set Oven for Cleaning If the oven is too hot and you start to set a clean cycle, the word “OFF” will appear in the display . Allow additional time for cooling before you try to set the cycle. 1. Follow the directions in the Before a Clean Cycle section.
Delay Start is setting the oven timer to start the clean cycle automatically at a later time than the present time of day . NOTE: Before beginning, make sure the oven clock shows the correct time of day . 1. Follow the directions in the Before a Clean Cycle section.
27 Operating the Self-Cleaning Oven Questions and Answers Q. If my oven clock is not set to the correct time of day , can I still self-clean my oven? A. If the clock is not set to the correct time of day you will not be able to set a delay clean to end at a specific time.
28 CARE AND CLEANING Proper care and cleaning are important so your range will give you efficient and satisfactory service. Follow these directions carefully in caring for it to help assure safe and proper maintenance. BE SURE ELECTRICAL POWER IS OFF AND ALL SURF ACES ARE COOL BEFORE CLEANING ANY P AR T OF THE RANGE.
Car e and Cleaning Surface Units and Drip Pans T o clean the surface units, turn the control to the highest setting for a minute. The coils will burn off any soil. CAUTION • Be sure all the contr ols are turned to OFF and the surface units are cool befor e attempting to remove them.
CARE AND CLEANING (continued) Lift-Off Oven Door The oven door is removable, but it is heavy . Y ou may need help removing and replacing the door . Do not lift the door by the handle. This can cause the glass to break or can cause damage to the door .
31 Car e and Cleaning Por celain Enamel Cooktop Oven Shelves The porcelain enamel finish is sturdy but br eakable if misused. This finish is acid-resistant. However , any acidic foods spilled (such as fruit juices, tomato or vinegar) should not be permitted to remain on the finish.
32 ANTI-TIP DEVICE 1. Before placing range in the counter , notice the location of the stability bracket which is already attached to the back of the range.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE “F–AND A NUMBER” • If the time display flashes “F—and a number” , you have a function error code. FLASH IN THE DISPLA Y If a function error code appears during the self-cleaning cycle, check the oven door latch. The latch handle may have been moved, even if only slightly , from the latched position.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE OVEN TEMPERA TURE TOO • Oven thermostat needs adjustment. See the Adjust the Oven Thermostat— HOT OR TOO COLD Do It Y ourself section. “BURNING” OR “OIL Y” • This is normal in a new oven and will disappear in time.
