1 1 Installation This guide provides information on installing your Gateway serv er in a third party cabinet. The rackmount accessory kit includes: ■ 2 pairs of generic mounting brac kets (short and long) ■ 2 28-inch ( 71.

Installi ng the cabine t mount ing brackets and mounti ng rail s 3 Installing the cabinet mounting brackets and mounting rails If you are installing the server in a Gateway cabinet, refer to the following section. If you are installing the server in a non-Gateway cabinet, go to “Installing generic mounting brackets” on page 5.
4 I n s t a l l a t i o n 4 Position the bac k mounting bracket (labeled REAR ) on the back vertical mounting rail. 5 Attach the b ack mounting bracket to the back ve rtical mounting rail using two screws from the accessory kit. 6 Mount the second s e t of bra ckets on the opposite si d e of t he cabinet by repeating Steps 2 through 5.
Installi ng the cabine t mount ing brackets and mounti ng rail s 5 3 Align the f ront of the cabinet mounting rail to the front mounting bracket by sliding the in ne r rail an d inner slide until the rail screw hole opening lines up with o ne of t he front mounting bracket screw holes.
6 I n s t a l l a t i o n T o install the generic mounting brackets in the cabinet: 1 If you received a mounting templat e with your cabinet, use it to locate the exact posit ion of the cabinet mo unting brackets. 2 Position the front mounting bracket (shorter bracket) on the front v ertical mounting rail.

8 I n s t a l l a t i o n 3 Align the f ront of the cabinet mounting rail to the front mounting bracket by sliding the in ne r rail an d inner slide until the rail screw hole opening lines up with the first inner rail screw hole and with t he second screw hole on the front mounti ng bracket.
Mounting t he system dr awer in the cabinet 9 Mounting the system drawer in the cabinet T o mount the system drawer in the cabinet: 1 Pull both of the inn er rails forward until the spring latches o n each side lock. 2 Pull the inner slides all the way forward.
10 I n s t a l l a t i o n 3 Lift the system dra wer to the same height as th e inner rails, then a lign the system drawer side rails wit h the inner rails . 4 Push the system d rawer evenly into the cabinet until the latches on the system drawer side rails lock.
Mounti ng the system dra wer in the cabinet 11 5 Press the latches on both sides of the system drawer side rails, then p u sh the system drawer back unt il the inner rail spring latches lock. 6 From the back si de of the cabinet, releas e the spring lat ch on the inner rail while pushing the sy stem drawer to the back of the cabinet.
12 I n s t a l l a t i o n Installing the cable retractor Cable retractors reduce strain on the drawer cables and c onnectors and simplify maintenance because they keep the cables out of the way . I f you are installing a c able retractor in a Gat eway cabinet, refer to the following section.
Installi ng the cable retrac tor 13 Installing a ca ble retractor in a non-Gatewa y cabinet T o install a cable retractor in a non-Gateway cabinet: 1 Remo ve the ad apter bracket f rom the ca ble retracto r straight bracket.
14 I n s t a l l a t i o n Attaching the cables to the retractor T o attach the cables: 1 Route the cables from the rear of the system d rawer to the cable retractor . 2 Attach t he cables to t he cable ret ractor , mak ing sure the c ables have sufficient slack when the system drawer is pulled forward and pushed back in to place .
C o m p l e t i n g t h e c o n n e c t i o n s 15 Completing the connections When the system drawer is installed in the cabinet, make the system connecti ons. Connecting a s ingle system drawer T o connect the peripherals: 1 T urn off all system drawers and devices in the cabinet before attaching any of the system drawer ca bles.
16 I n s t a l l a t i o n Connecting multiple system dr awers Multiple system drawers installed in a cabinet ca n share a single set of peripherals if a switch box, such as an autoswitcher , is installed. The autoswitcher gives control of the monitor and routes the keyboard and mouse inputs to the currently selected system drawer .

18 I n s t a l l a t i o n Connecting the power Gateway recomm ends that a license d electrician install a d e dica ted 230 V AC line, with sufficient amp erage rating for the s ystem drawer , to a breaker box or distribution panel. The power co rds must be wired directly into the breaker box.
Turning on t he system drawer 19 T urning on the system drawer T o turn on the system drawer for the first time: 1 If using a UPS , turn it on first. 2 T urn on the mo nitor and a ny additional devices conn ected to the syst em draw er . Listen for alar ms wh ich may i ndicate po wer pro blems .
20 I n s t a l l a t i o n T urning off the system drawer T o turn off the system drawer: 1 Close all programs. 2 If necessary , issue a “ flush ” command to write the c ontents of any cac hes or buffers to disk. 3 If necessary , issue a command to exit or quit the operating system.
