www .gate wa y .co m Replacing the Gate wa y 600 K eyboar d This package includes a replacem ent keyboard for your Gateway 600 notebook computer and these pri nted instructions. T ools y ou need Y ou will n e ed a small Phillips a nd a small flat bla d e screwdriver to replace the keyboard.
2 www .gate wa y .com Before working with com puter components, follow these guidelines: ■ A void static-causing surfaces such as carpeted floors, plastic, and packing foam. ■ Remove components from their antistatic bags only when you are ready to use them.
3 Replacin g the Gatewa y 600 Keyboa rd www .gate wa y .com 7 Pull the bezel off the notebook. Y ou will hear small sna pping sounds as the bezel comes away from th e notebook. Be careful to not break off the tabs found on the l e ft end of the bezel.
4 www .gate wa y .com 9 Remove the keyboard by raising th e back edge, then slowly ro ta ting it toward you so it lies key s-down on top of the notebook.
5 Replacin g the Gatewa y 600 Keyboa rd www .gate wa y .com 10 Disconnect the keyboard by lifting the keyboard connector using two fingers. Be careful to not touch or damage any other components . Installing the keyboar d T o install the new keyboard: 1 Place the new keyboard keys-d own on the notebook with the space bar away from yo u.
6 www .gate wa y .com 3 Rotate the keyboard toward the LCD panel until the keyboard is almost face-up. Important The outs ide of the ke yboard p lug goes aroun d the ke yboard connec tor .
7 Replacin g the Gatewa y 600 Keyboa rd www .gate wa y .com 4 Insert the front of the keyboard under the pa lm rest. 5 Gently press the keyboard down unti l it is flat all the way across. The keyboard should easily fall into place. Be careful to not damage the LCD pane l.
8 www .gate wa y .com 6 Replace the fiv e keyboard screws. 7 Slide the two tabs fo und on the left end of the bezel under the n o tebook frame. 8 Press down on the bezel in several places until it cl ic ks in place.
9 Replacin g the Gatewa y 600 Keyboa rd www .gate wa y .com The bezel is correctly mounted when you can run you finger along the bezel and find no loose spots. The bezel should be fla t all the way across. If the bezel is mounted incorrectly , complete the instructions under “ Replac ing the be zel ” on page 9.
