T ools y ou nee d Y ou need a small Phillips a nd a small flat-blade screwdriver to replace the keyboard.
2 ww w .g at eway . co m Before working with notebook co mponents, follow these guidelin es: ■ A voi d static-ca using surfaces such as carp eted floors, p lastic, an d packing fo am. ■ Remove components from their anti static bags only when you are ready to u se them.
3 www .gatew ay .co m Remo ving the k eyboard T o remove the keyboard: 1 Follow the instructions under “Preventing static electricity discharge” on page 1 . 2 T urn off your notebook. 3 Disconnect the AC adapter and m odem and ne twork cables. 4 T urn your notebook over so the bottom i s facing up.
4 ww w .g at eway . co m 9 Pull the bezel off your notebook. Y ou will h ear small snapping sounds as the bezel comes away from your notebook . Be careful not to break off the tabs found o n the lef t end o f th e beze l. 10 W ith a small Phillips screwdriver , remov e the four keyboard screws and put them in a safe pl ace.
5 www .gatew ay .co m 11 Lift the back edge of t he keyboa rd, then slowly rotate it toward you so it lies keys-down on top of your notebook. Be careful not to dama ge the LCD panel.
6 ww w .g at eway . co m 12 Lift the keyboard connector using two fingers and remove the black keyboard cable. Be careful not to tou ch or damage any other c omponents. 13 If your notebook has the optional EZ Point pointing device, lift the cable connector on the back of the keyboa rd and remove the wh ite cable.
7 www .gatew ay .co m Installing the k eyboard T o install the keyboard: 1 Pl ace the n ew key board key s-down on your notebook with the space bar away from you. 2 Insert the keyboard plug, on the end of the black key board cable, onto the keyboard connector .
8 ww w .g at eway . co m 5 Insert the tabs on the front of th e keyboard under the palm rest. 6 Gently press the keyboard down until it is flat all the way across. The keyboard should easily fall int o place. Be careful not to damage the LCD panel. 7 Replace the four keyboard screws.
9 www .gatew ay .co m 8 Slide the two tabs on the left end of the bezel under your notebook frame. 9 Press down on the bezel in several places until it clicks in place. The bezel is correctly mounted when you can run you finger along the bezel and find no loose spots.
