Stage B - Thoroughly Sharpening the Edge Note: Do no use stage B for serrated knives, as this will remove too much metal from the serration. Sharpen the blade in stage B by using the same procedure as described in the section Sharpening Blades. When detecting a burr along one side of the edge, process the knife in stage C once to remove the burr .
To check for the burr , move your finger carefully and without exerting pressure from the back of the blade across the blade to the edge as shown in the illustration. The burr will be a rough protrusion on one side of the edge, whereas the other side is feeling smooth.
