2 1.3 Choos ing the Mou ntin g L ocati on For a reliable GPS signal, selecting the best locatio n for the receive r is very impor- tant. It can be mou nted on a pole , rail, or flat surfac e. Choose a loca tion that bal- ances the requirem ents below.
3 1.4 Moun ting 1.4.1 Pole/Rail (Pip e) Mount The nut asse mbly supplied has stand ard 1-14" UNS thread s that can be screwed to a standard marine antenna mount, exten sion pole, or rail-mount bracket. Before beginning the inst allation, plan for s ecuring the pole / rail bracket to the boat and purchase locally all t he necessary ha rdware.
4 5. Remove the protective cap from the GPS connector on the cable. (Sa ve the cap to pr otect the connector , when the receiver is removed.) Plug the cable firmly into the GPS receiver . 6. With the alignment tab on the GPS rece iver facing forward, slide th e captive nut upward and screw it onto the moun t base.
5 7. W rap pipe thread tape around the thre ads of the moun t base two times to seal it tightly to the sur face bracket. 8. Coat the part of the GPS connector show n in the figure on page 4 with silic one sealant. Pass the GPS connector end of the cable up through the hole in the surface br acket.
6 2. WIRING, SETTINGS 2.1 NMEA 2000 ® Connection The LEN (Load Eq uivalency Number) for this equipmen t is 3. 2.1.1 Direct Connection Insert the contact pin (supp lied) into the # 5 socket of th e GPS Receive r connector to activate the term ination resistor .
7 2. 1. 2 Net w or k Co n ne ct io n Drop cab le conn ecti on A drop cable is connected to a backbone cable with T -type connectors*. The back- bone cable is of th e “light” type. Attach a termina tor at the ends o f the backbone cable. Only two term ination resistors a re required on an NMEA 2000 ® network.
8 Connect the GPS Receiver at the la st node in the n etwork. Insert the contact pin (supplied) into the # 5 socket of the GPS Receiver con nector to activat e the termi- nation resistor . 2.1.3 Routing and Connecting the Cable Assembly Route the cable a ssembly to the NM EA 2000 ® device.
