Preface 1 Y ou have purchased the XG1200, a compact, 12 port 10 Gigabit Ethernet layer 2 switch that achieves unsurpassed standards of high throughput and low-latency performance. This manual explains the procedu res required to install your XG1200 and should be read and understood before you start using your XG1200.
2 Fo r Safe Use of the XG1200 W arnings are included th roughout this manual in order to pre vent injury to the user and/or material damage. There are two levels of wa rnings, both of which are compo sed of a symbol and a message de scribing the issue.

For your safety and that of others , please follow these guidelines. Category Caution Danger of device damage Do not place the XG1200 on it s side or stack up multip le XG1200s.
For Safe Use of the XG1200 5 Never attempt to dismantle or modify the XG1200 yourself. This is extremely dangerous since the XG1200 includes both high volt age and high temp erature components. If maintenance is required, contact the vendor's service department.

Connecting a statically charged twiste d pair cable to a device can cause the device or its LAN port to operate fa lsely or to become da maged.

12 Before Use 1-1 Part s List Before proceeding, check that all of the following parts were included in your XG1200 package. Contact the vendor's service department if any part s are missing and/o r the manual has any miss- ing or wrongly coll ated pages.
Part s List 13 1 • XG1200 The XG1200 itsel f (from zero to eight Xenpak module s may be installed). • Power Cord A 3-pin cabl e to connect the XG1200 to a power supply. • Serial Cross Cable A cable t o connect the XG1200 t o a PC when the s ettings need to be ad justed.

24 Installation and Operation Only use the XG1200 under t he temperature, humidity and other environmental cond itions specified in "A.2 Installation Specifications " (page 38). Using th e XG1200 outside the follow- ing ranges can shorten th e lifetime or cause th e failure of the XG1200.

Inst allation Procedure 27 2 3. Fix the four rack mounting brackets to t he XG1200. Each of the four rack moun ting bracket s (left, right, back-left, back-righ t) has th ree holes that should line up with matching holes on the sides of the XG1200, as sho wn in the diagram.
28 Installation and Operation 5. This completes the rack installation procedure. CAUTION As the XG1200 can weigh as much as 20kg, it should never be installed by a single person acting alone. At least two people sh ould work together to insert and fasten the XG1200 in the rack.
Cable Connecti on 29 2 The fiber optic cab les need to be connected to the XG1200’s Xenpak modules . 1. Connect the fiber optic cables to the XG1200 . Connect the fibre optic cables to the Xenpa k mod ules Port 1 - Port 12 on th e front. Attention Attention • An fiber optic connect or is used when connecting two fi ber optic cables.
30 Installation and Operation After connecting the peripheral units, connect the XG1200 power cords. W ARNING • Never touch a po wer plug with wet hands, as there i s a risk of electr ic shock. • Do not damage or remodel a power cord, as this may cause electric sho ck or fire.
Cable Connecti on 31 2 2. Connect the power cord to the power ou tlet. Insert the plug at the other end of the power cord into the power strip or wall socket. W ARNING • Unplug the XG1200 du ring thunder-start ing. Continued u se under these condi tions risks lightning damage to the XG1200, and may cause a fire.
32 Instal lation and Opera tion CAUTION Do not move, s hock, or vibrate th e XG1200 while it is on. 1. Turn the power switch to the "on" position by pressing the [ ] side. The Power LED (Green) on the front of the XG1200 should turn on. The Alarm LED (Orange) should turn on for a moment, then should turn off.

34 T roubleshoo ting [Symptom]The power switch is turn ed on, but the XG1200 does not po wer up. [Cause] Possible causes: 1: Loose cable, or 2: Hardware failure [Soluti on] 1: Check that all cables are connected prope rly, then (if the XG1200 stil l doesn’t turn on) 2: Contact the vendor' s service department.
Hardware Problems 35 3 When a problem is detected with a fan, the fr ont panel Alarm LED lights up in oran ge, the LED of the fan unit in which the error has occurred lights up in orange, and an error is recorded in the event log. If a fan error occurs, contact the vendor's service department.
