2 LifeBook S Series Notebook BIOS S Series BIOS BIOS SETUP UTILITY The BIOS Setup Utility is a program that sets up the operating en vironment for y our notebook. Y our BIOS is set at the factor y for normal operating conditions, therefor e there should be no need to set or change the BIOS enviro nment to operate your notebook.
3 3. If an error message is displa yed on the screen, and you want to enter the setup utility , press the [F2] key . 4. W hen the setup utility star ts with a fault present, the system display s the following message: Warning! Error message [Continue] 5.
4 LifeBook S Series Notebook BIOS MAIN MENU – SETTING ST AN DARD SYSTEM P ARAMETERS The Main M enu allows y ou to set or view the current system parameters.
5 Primary Master: Selects Prim ary Master submenu The product # of the Hard Drive Display the type of device on this A T A/A T API interface, if there is one. Pressing the Enter key selects t he Primary Master submenu allowing additional device configur ation o ptions for this interface.
6 LifeBook S Series Notebook BIOS Primary Master Submenu of the Main Menu The Primary Master submenu identifies what A T A devices are installed. No te that actual hard dr ive label shown may vary . Depending on the driv e ty pe, information such as cylin- ders, heads and sectors may also be d isplayed.
7 T ransfer Mode: ■ Standard ■ Fast PIO 1 ■ Fast PIO 2 ■ Fast PIO 3 ■ Fast PIO 4 ■ Multiword DMA 1 ■ Multiword DMA 2 [Multiword DMA 2] Selects the method for moving data to/from the drive. Autotype the drive to select the optimum tra nsfer mode.
8 LifeBook S Series Notebook BIOS Secondary Maste r Submenu of the Main Menu The Secondary Master submenu is for the internal DVD/ CD-ROM driv e. The drive type is displayed on this menu as well as the Main men u. Y our notebook auto- senses the characteristics of the int ernal drive installed.
9 Exiting from Main Menu W hen you ha ve finished setting the parameters on this menu, y o u can either exit from the setup utility , or move to another menu. If y ou w ish to exit from the setup utility , pr ess the [Esc] key or use the cursor keys to go to the Exit menu or to mov e to another menu.
