The following describes the proper use of batteries and how to prolong their life . Incor- rect use can shorten battery life or cause leak- age, overheating, fi re, or explosion.

10 First Steps First Steps Charging the Battery Charging the Battery The battery is not charged at shipment. Charge the batter y before use . 1 Place the batter y in the supplied battery charger . Inser t the batter y in the orientation indicated by the CBD labels.

17 First St eps T urning the Camera on and Off Q F ingerprints and other marks on the lens can aff ect pictures. Keep the lens clean. Q T urning the camera off does not completely end the supply of power to the cam- era.
18 First St eps Basic Setup Basic Setup A language -selec tion dialog is displayed the fi rst time the camera is turned on. Set up the camera as described below (you can reset the clock or change languages at any time using the F DA TE/TIME or L a options in the setup menu; for inf ormation on displaying the setup menu, see page 80).
