The following describes the proper use of batteries and how to prolong their life . I ncor- rect use can shorten battery life or cause leak- age, overheating, fi re, or explosion.

6 First Steps First Steps Charging the Battery Charging the Battery The battery is not charged at shipment. Char ge the battery before use. 1 Attach the plug adapter . Attach the plug adapter as shown at right, making sure that it is fully inser ted and clicks into place on the charger terminals.

14 First St eps T urning the Camera on and Off Q F orcibly obstructing the lens could cause damage or product malfunction. Q F ingerprints and other marks on the lens can aff ect pictures. Keep the lens clean. Q The ON/OFF button does not completely end the supply of power to the camera.
15 First St eps Basic Setup Basic Setup A language -selection dialog is displayed the fi rst time the camera is tur ned on. Set up the camera as described below (you can reset the clock or change languages at any time using the F DA TE/TIME or L a options in the setup menu; for inf ormation on displaying the setup menu, see page 71).

The camera automatically analyzes the composition and adjusts settings ap- propriately .

21 More on Photography Shooting Mode SP SP SCENE POSITION SCENE POSITION The camera off ers a choice of “scenes , ” each adapted to particular shooting conditions or a specifi c t ype of subject. Use the A SCENE POSITION option in the shooting menu to choose the scene as- signed to the SP1 and SP2 positions on the mode dial .
22 More on Photography Shooting Mode ■ r P ANORAMA In this mode, you can take up to three pictures and join them together to f orm a panorama. Use of a tripod is recommended to assist in composing overlap- ping shots. The camera zooms all the way out and zoom r emains fi xed at the widest angle until shooting is complete.

26 More on Photography Focus L ock Aut ofocus Autofocus Although the camera boasts a high-precision autof ocus system, it may be unable to focus on the subjects listed below . I f the camera is unable to focus, f ocus on another subject at the same distance and use focus lock to recompose the photog raph.

P ress the selec- tor up or down to choose an exposure compensa- tion value and then press MENU/OK .

46 Movies Recording Movies R Before recor ding, select a frame size using the O QU ALITY option in the shooting menu. Select h 1280 (1280 × 720) for an aspect ratio of 16 : 9 (High Defi nition), f (640 × 480) to record standard defi nition movies, or g (320 × 240) f or longer movies.

49 Connections Printing P ictures via USB Printing P ictures via USB If the printer suppor ts PictBridge, the camera can be connected directly to the printer as shown below and pictures can be printed without fi rst being copied to a comput er . Note that depending on the printer , not all the functions described below may be supported.
50 Connections Printing Pictures via USB 6 Pr ess MENU/OK to star t printing. Printing can be interrupted by pressing DISP/BACK , but note that some printers ma y not respond immediately . I f the printer stops befor e printing is complete, turn the camera off and then on again.
51 Connections Printing Pictures via USB Printing the DPOF Print Order Printing the DPOF Print Order The K PRINT ORDER (DPOF) option in the playback menu can be used to create a digital “print order” for P ictBridge -compatible pr inters ( P 79) or de - vices that suppor t DPOF .

T o remove a picture from the print or der , pr ess the selector down until the number of copies is zero . 6 Repeat Steps 4–5 to complete the print order and press MENU/OK when settings are complete .

An y remaining stains can be r emoved by wiping gently with a piece of FUJIFILM lens-cleaning paper to which a small amount of lens- cleaning fl uid has been applied.
