Page 8 COMPONENTS OPERA TION & TESTING W ARNING DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL PO WER T O UNIT BEFORE SER VICING OR TESTING COMPRESSORS Compressors are single phase, 15 or 230/208 v olt, de- pending on the model unit. All compressor motors are per manent split capacitor type using only a running ca- pacitor across the star t and r un ter minal.
Page 9 The ov erload is wired in ser ies with the common motor ter minal. The ov erload senses both major amperage and compressor temperature . High motor temperature or amperage heats the disc causing it to open and break the circuit to the common motor ter minal.

CAP A CIT OR, R UN A run capacitor is wired across the auxiliar y and main winding of a single phase per manent split capacitor motor such as the compressor and f an motor .

Page 12 RESIST OR (Heat Anticipator) F ailure of the resistor will cause prolonged “off ” and “on” cycles of the unit. When replacing a resistor , be sure and use the e xact replacement.

Page 14 R O T AR Y COMPRESSOR SPECIAL TROUBLESHOO TING AND SER VICE Basically , troubleshooting and servicing rotar y compres- sors is the same as on the reciprocating compressor with only a fe w exceptions. 1. Because of the spinning motion of the rotar y , the mounts are critical.
Page 15 Troubleshooting Cooling PROBLEM POSSIBLE CA USE T O CORRECT Check for voltage at compressor. 1115 volt and 230 volt units will operate at 10% voltage variance. Set thermostat to coldest position. Test thermostat and replace if inoperative. Hard start compressor.
Page 16 PROBLEM POSSIBLE CA USE T O CORRECT Replace fuse, reset breaker. If repeats, check fuse or breaker size. Check for shorts in unit wiring and compo- nents Plug in power cord Set switch correctly. Test for continuity in each switch position. Check wiring and connections.
Page 17 PROBLEM POSSIBLE CA USE T O CORRECT Compressor attempts to start, or runs for short periods only. Cycles on overload. Check operation of unit. Replace overload if system operation is satisfactory. Allow a minimum of two (2) minutes for pressures to equalize before attempting to restart.
Page 18 PROBLEM POSSIBLE CA USE T O CORRECT Thermostat short cycles. Thermostat differential too narrow. Plenum gasket not sealing, allowing discharge air to short cycle the thermostat. Restricted coil or dirty filter. Thermostat bulb touching thermostat bulb support bracket.
