4 COMPRESSOR WINDING TEST (Figure 2.) Remov e the c ompress or terminal box c over and disconnect the wires from t he terminals. Using an ohmmeter , c heck c ontinuit y across the follow ing: COMPONENT OPERA TION AND TESTING COM PRE SSO RS Compress ors are single phase, 208 /23 0 volt.
5 F AN MOTOR (Figure 4) A 230 volt single phase per manent split capacitor m otor is used to drive the evaporator blower and condenser fan. A running c apacitor is wired acros s the star t and r un terminals of the motor . The motor is totally enc losed and is protected with a line volt- age overload located inter nally of the motor .
6 THERMOST A T A cross ambient ther most at is used to maintain the desire d comfor t level . The ther most at reacts only to a change in temperature at the bulb location. Impor t ant to the succ essful operation of the unit is the posit ion of the sensing bulb in relation to the evaporator ( see Figure 8 ) .
7 NOTE: This procedure can be sped up by the use of heat lamps, or by breaking the v acuum with refr igerant o r d r y n i t r o g e n a t 5 , 0 0 0 m i c r o n s . P r e s s u r e s y s t e m t o 5 PSIG and leave in the s ystem a minimum of 10 minutes.
