1. Po sition the child sa fe ty sea t in a sea t with a combina tion lap and shoul der belt. E142529 2. Aft er positioning the child s af ety sea t in the proper se ating position, pull down on the shoul der belt and then gra sp the shoulder bel t and lap belt tog ether behind the belt t ongue.

Note: Unlike the standar d sea tbelt, the infla tabl e sea tbelt's unique l ap portion lock s the child se at f or install ation. T he ability for the shoulder portion o f the belt t o move freel y is normal, ev en aft er the lap bel t has been put into the a utomatic l ocking mode.
Using Low er Anchors and T ethers for CHil dren (LA TCH) W ARNINGS Nev er atta ch two chil d safe ty sea ts to the same anchor . In a cr ash, one anchor may not be str ong enough to hold t wo chil d saf ety se at a ttachments and may br eak, ca using serious injury or dea th.

Use a belt-po sitioning booster sea t for childr en who hav e outgro wn or no long er properl y fit in a child s af ety sea t (generall y childr en who are l ess than 4 fe et 9 inches (1.
Childr en and booster se ats v ary in size and shape. Choose a boos ter that k eeps the lap bel t low and snug a cross the hips, nev er up across the st omach, and l ets you adjust the shoul der belt t o cross the chest and rest snu gly ne ar the center of the shoulder .
W ARNINGS the wa y back. When possibl e, all childr en ag e 12 and under should be properl y restr ained in a rear sea ting position. If all childr en cannot be sea ted and res trained properl y in a rear s eating position, properl y restr ain the larg est child in the fr ont sea t.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION W ARNINGS Al way s drive and ride with your sea tback upright and the lap bel t snug and l ow acr oss the hips. T o reduc e the risk of injury , make sure chil dren sit where the y can be properl y restr ained. Nev er let a pa ssenger hold a chil d on his or her lap whil e your vehicl e is moving.
The sa fety bel t pret ensioners and re ar infla tabl e saf ety bel ts are designe d to activ at e in frontal, ne ar-frontal and side cra shes, and in r ollo vers. T he safe ty belt pret ensioners at the front se ating positions are designed t o tighten the saf ety belts firmly a gainst the oc cupant ’ s body when activ at ed.
Pr egnant women shoul d alw ays w ear their sea tbelt. The lap bel t portion of a combina tion lap and shoul der belt shoul d be positioned l ow acr oss the hips belo w the belly and w orn as tight as c omfort will allo w . The shoul der belt shoul d be positioned t o cross the middl e of the shoulder and the c enter of the ches t.
E142591 1. Buckle the c ombination lap and shoulder bel t. 2. Gra sp the shoulder portion and pull downw ard until the entir e belt is pull ed out. As the bel t retr acts, you will hear a clicking sound. This indica tes the sea tbelt is no w in the automa tic locking mode .
How does the rear infl atable sea tbelt sy stem work? W ARNING If the re ar infla table se atbel t has deplo yed , it will not function a gain. The r ear infla table sea tbelt sys tem must be repl aced b y an authorized deal er . The r ear infla table sea tbelts will function like st andard re straints in ev eryday usag e.
Seatbel t Ext ension Assembly W ARNINGS Do not use ex tensions to chang e the fit of the shoulder bel t across the tor so. Do not use ex tensions with an infla tabl e sea tbelt. Se atbel t ext ensions are vehicl e-specific. See an authoriz ed deal er to mak e sure y ou obtain the proper se atbel t extension f or your v ehicle.
Conditions of oper ation Then... If... The sa fety bel t warning light ill uminat es 1- 2 minutes and the w arning chime sounds 4-8 seconds. The driv er's saf ety belt is not buckl ed bef ore the ignition swit ch is turned to the on position... The sa fety bel t warning light and warning chime turn off.
Then... If... The Bel t-Minder fe atur e will not activa te. Y ou and the front sea t passeng er buckle your sa fety bel ts bef ore you s witch the ignition on or le ss than 1 – 2 minute s elapse aft er you s witch the ignition on.
3. For the se ating position y ou are swit ching off, buckl e then unbuckl e the sa fety bel t three times a t a modera te speed , ending in the unbuckle d stat e. Aft er St ep 3, the sa fety bel t warning light turns on. 4. Whil e the saf ety bel t warning light is on, buckl e and then unbuckle the sa fety bel t.
The P ersonal Saf ety S ystem pr ovides an impro ved o ver all lev el of frontal cr ash prot ection to fr ont sea t occupant s and is designed t o help further reduc e the risk of airbag-r ela ted injuries.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION W ARNINGS Airbags do not infl ate sl owl y or gentl y, and the risk of injury from a deplo ying airbag is the gr eat est cl ose to the trim c ov ering the airbag module .
DRIVER AND P ASSENGER AIRBA GS W ARNINGS Nev er plac e your arm or any objec ts ov er an airbag modul e. Pl acing your arm ov er a deplo ying airbag can resul t in serious arm fractur es or other injuries.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION MyK ey allow s you t o progr am key s with restric ted driving modes t o promot e good driving habits. All but one of the k eys progr ammed to the v ehicle c an be activ at ed with these restric ted modes. Any k eys tha t hav e not been progr ammed are r eferr ed to a s administra tor ke ys or admin k eys.
• V arious vehicl e speed minders c an be set. Onc e you sel ect a speed , it will be shown in the displ ay , foll owed b y an audibl e tone when the pres elec ted vehicl e speed is e xc eeded. • Audio sy stem maximum v olume of 45%. A mess age will be sho wn in the displa y when you a ttempt t o ex cee d the limited v olume.
Note: Y ou can cl ear or change your MyK ey setting s at any time during the s ame ke y cycl e as you cre at ed the MyK ey . Once you hav e switche d the vehicle o ff, ho we ver , you will need an admin k ey t o change or cl ear your MyK ey set tings.
CHECKING MYKEY S Y STEM S T A TUS Y ou can find informa tion on progr ammed MyK ey(s) using the informa tion display contr ol on the steering wheel. See Information Displa ys (pa ge 97). T o find information on progr ammed MyK ey(s), press the l eft arrow button t o acc ess the main menu and scroll to: Description Messag e Pr ess the OK button.
USING MYKEY WITH REMOTE S T ART S YS TEMS MyK ey is not compatibl e with non Ford-appr ove d, a ftermark et remot e start sys tems. If y ou choose to install a r emote start sy stem, s ee an authorized de aler f or a Ford-appr ove d remote st art syst em.

Opening a Rear Door Fr om the Inside Pull the int erior door handle twic e to unlock and open a r ear door . The fir st pull unlock s the door and the second pull opens the door . Ac tivating Intellig ent Ac cess (If Equipped) The int elligent ac cess k ey must be within 3 ft (1 m) of your v ehicle.
T o ov erride smart unlock, lock y our vehicl e aft er you ha ve cl osed all doors b y: • Using the ke yless entry k eypad. • Pr essing the lock butt on on another intellig ent acc ess ke y . • T ouching the locking ar ea on the front of the door handle with another intellig ent acc ess ke y in your hand .
7 . S witch the ignition off. The horn sounds indica ting progr amming is compl et e. Illumina ted Entry The int erior lamps and some e xterior lamps ill uminat e when you unl ock the doors with the remot e control. The l amps turn off if: • The ignition is on.
Opening the Liftg ate Manually E138632 Pr ess the button l ocat ed in the top of the liftg at e pull cup handle t o unla tch the liftg at e, and then pull on the outside handle . With the R emote Contr ol E138630 Pr ess the button t wice within three se conds.
• The ignition is on and the tr ansmission is not in park (P). • The ba ttery vol tag e is belo w the minimum opera ting vol tag e. • The lift ga te is not full y close d and your vehicl e speed is a t or abov e 3 mph (5 km/h).

When Opening The s ystem st ops when it detects an obstacl e and a tone sounds. Once y ou remo ve the obsta cle, you can c ontinue to opera te the lift ga te. Hands-Free Featur e (If Equipped) Make sur e you ha ve an intellig ent acc ess transmit ter within 3 ft (1 m) of the liftg at e.
Y ou can use the ke ypad to do the foll owing: • Lock or unl ock the doors. • Pr ogram and er ase user c odes. • Arm and disarm the anti-theft al arm. • R ecall memory sea t and mirror positions. Y ou can opera te the k eypad with the fa ctory-se t five-digit entry code .
Unlocking A ll D oors Enter the f actory-set c ode or your personal code, then press 3·4 on the k eypad within five sec onds. Unlocking Onl y the Driver Door Enter the f actory-set or y our personal five-digit c ode. Y ou must press e ach number within five sec onds of each other .
P ASSIVE ANTI-THEFT S YS TEM Note: The sy stem is not c ompatibl e with non-Ford a ftermark et remot e start s ystems. Use of these s yst ems may resul t in vehicle starting probl ems and a loss of sec urity prot ection.

ADJU STING THE S TEERING WHEEL - VEHICLES WITH: MANUAL AD JUST ABLE S TEERING COL UMN W ARNING Do not adjust the st eering wheel when your v ehicle is mo ving. Note: Make sure tha t you are sit ting in the corre ct position. S ee Sitting in the Corr ect Position (pag e 123).
End of Tr avel P osition The st eering col umn sets a st opping position just short of the end of the col umn position to pr event dama ge t o the steering col umn. A new st opping position sets if the ste ering column enc ounter s an object when tilting or t elescoping.

ADJU STING THE PED ALS W ARNING Nev er use the control s while y our fe et are on the ac cel era tor and br ake pedals and the v ehicle is mo ving. Y ou can find the contr ol on the left side of the ste ering column. Press and hol d the appropria te side of the c ontrol to mo ve the pedals.
WINDSHIELD WIPER S Note: Fully defr ost the windshield be for e you s witch the windshiel d wipers on. Note: Make sure y ou switch the windshiel d wipers off be fore ent ering a car wa sh. Note: Clean the windshiel d and wiper blade s if they begin t o le ave str eaks or smears.
Use the rotary c ontrol to adjust the sensitivity of the r ain sensor . Set the contr ol to l ow sensitivity , and the wipers will turn on when the rain sensor de tect s a lar ge amount of moistur e on the windshield .
Rear W indow W asher E208498 R otat e and hold the c ontrol t o the top or bott om position to activ at e the rear wa sher . The contr ol returns t o the 2 or 0 position when you r ele ase it. Rear C amera W asher (If Equipped) Opera ting the re ar washer al so opera tes the re ar camera w asher .
GENERAL INF ORMA TION Condensa tion in L amp Assemblies Ext erior lamps ha ve v ents to acc ommodat e normal changes in air pressur e. Condensa tion can be a natur al by-produc t of this design. When moist air ent ers the lamp a ssembl y through the v ents, there is a possibility tha t condensa tion can occ ur when the temper atur e is col d.
Push the l ever a way from y ou again or pull the le ver t owar d you t o switch the high beam off . Headlamp Flasher E163268 Slightly pull the l ever t owar d you and rel ea se it to fl ash the hea dlamps.
The he adlamps will not turn on b y wiper activ ation: • During a single wipe . • When the wipers ar e on to cl ear wa sher fluid during a w ash c ondition. Note: If you swit ch autol amps and auto wipers on, the headl amps will automa tically turn on when the windshiel d wipers continuousl y operat e.
D A YTIME RUNNING LAMPS (If Equipped) W ARNING Al way s remember to s witch y our headl amps on in lo w light situations or during inclement w ea ther . The sys tem does not activ at e the tail l amps and may not pr ovide adequa te lighting during these conditions.

When cl osing the pow er windows, you shoul d verify the y are free of obstructions and mak e sure tha t childr en and pets are not in the pr oximit y of the window openings.

Airbag R eadiness If this light fail s to ill uminat e when you s witch the ignition on, continues t o flash or r emains on, it indica tes a mal function. Ha ve the sy stem check ed by your a uthorized deal er . A tone sounds when there is a mal function.
Engine Oil If it illumina tes with the engine running or when you ar e driving, this indica tes a mal function. St op your v ehicle a s soon as it is sa fe to do so and swit ch the engine off. Check the engine oil le vel. S ee Engine Oil Check (pag e 247).
