The sa fety bel t pretensioner s and rear infla table sa fe ty bel ts are designe d to activ at e in frontal, near-fr ontal and side cra shes, and in roll ov ers. T he saf ety belt pret ensioners at the front se ating po sitions are designed t o tighten the saf ety belt s firmly a gainst the oc cupant ’ s body when activ at ed.
Pr egnant women shoul d alwa ys w ear their sa fet y belt. The l ap belt portion of a combina tion lap and shoul der belt shoul d be positioned l ow acr oss the hips bel ow the belly and w orn as tight as c omfort will allo w. The shoul der belt should be positioned t o cross the middl e of the shoulder and the c enter of the chest.
E142591 1. Buckle the c ombination lap and shoulder bel t. 2. Gra sp the shoulder portion and pull downw ard until the entire belt is pull ed out. As the bel t retr acts, y ou will hear a clicking sound. This indica tes the sa fet y belt is no w in the aut omatic locking mode .
How does the rear infl atable sa fety bel t sy stem work? The r ear infl at able sa fety bel ts will function lik e standard r estr aints in ev eryda y usag e. E146364 During a cra sh of sufficient forc e, the infla table bel t will infla te fr om inside the webbing.
S AFETY BEL T HEIGHT ADJU S TMENT W ARNING Po sition the saf ety belt height adjust er so that the bel t rests acro ss the middle of y our shoulder . Fail ure to adjus t the saf ety belt pr operly c ould reduc e the eff ectiv eness of the sa fet y belt and incre ase the risk of injury in a cr ash.
S AFETY BEL T MINDER Belt-Minder ™ This f eature suppl ements the saf ety bel t warning function b y providing additional reminders tha t intermitt ently sound a t one and illumina te the s af ety bel t warning light when you ar e in the driver se at or y ou hav e a front se at pa ssenger and a saf ety belt is unbuckle d.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION W ARNINGS Airbags do not infl ate sl owly or gentl y , and the risk of injury from a deplo ying airbag is the grea te st close to the trim c ov ering the airbag modul e.
DRIVER AND P ASSENGER AIRBA GS W ARNINGS Nev er plac e your arm or an y objects ov er an airbag modul e. Pl acing your arm ov er a deplo ying airbag can resul t in serious arm fractur es or other injuries.

T he readiness of the sa fety sys tem is indica ted by a w arning indica tor light in the instrument clust er or by a backup t one if the warning light is not working.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION The r emote c ontrol all ow s you t o: • R emotel y lock or unlock the v ehicle doors. • Unlock the door s without activ ely using a ke y or remot e contr ol (intellig ent acc ess only). • R emotel y open the power liftg ate (if equipped).

PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION MyK ey allo ws you t o program k eys with restric ted driving mode s to pr omote g ood driving habits. All but one of the k ey s progr ammed to the v ehicle can be activ at ed with these r estrict ed modes. Any k eys tha t have not been pr ogrammed are r eferr ed t o as administr ator k eys or admin k eys.
• V arious vehicl e speed minders c an be set. Onc e you sel ect a speed, it will be shown in the displ ay , f ollo wed by an audibl e tone when the pr esele cte d vehicl e speed is ex ceede d. • Audio sy stem ma ximum vol ume of 45%. A mess age will be sho wn in the displa y when you a ttempt to e x ceed the limited v olume.
Note: Y ou can cl ear or change your MyK ey setting s at an y time during the same ke y cycl e as you cr ea ted the MyK ey . Once y ou hav e swit ched the vehicl e off , how ev er , you will need an admin k ey to change or cl ear your MyK ey se ttings.
CHECKING MYKEY S Y S TEM S T A TUS Y ou can find informa tion on progr ammed MyK ey(s) using the informa tion displa y contr ol on the steering whe el.
USING MYKEY WITH REMOTE S T ART S YS TEMS MyK ey is not compa tible with non Ford-appr ov ed, aft ermarke t remot e start sys tems. If y ou choose t o install a remot e start sy stem, see an authorize d deal er for a Ford-appr ov ed remot e start sy stem.

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING Y ou can use the pow er door lock c ontrol or the remot e contr ol to l ock and unlock your v ehicle . Po wer Door Lock s (If Equipped) The po wer door l ock control is on the driver and front pa ssenger door panel s. E138628 Unlock.
Ac tivating Intellig ent Acc ess (If Equipped) The int elligent ac cess ke y must be within 3 ft (1 m) of your v ehicle . At a Door Pull a fr ont ext erior door handle to unl ock and open the door . Do not touch the l ock sensor on the front of the handl e.
T o ov erride smart unlock, lock y our vehicl e aft er you have cl osed all doors by: • Using the ke yle ss entry ke ypad. • Pr essing the lock but ton on another intellig ent acc ess key . • T ouching the locking ar ea on the fr ont of the door handle with another intellig ent acc ess key in y our hand.
Illumina ted Entry (If Equipped) The int erior lamps and s ome ext erior lamps ill uminate when y ou unlock the doors with the remot e control. The l amps turn off if: • The ignition is on. • Y ou press the remot e contr ol lock butt on. • 25 seconds ha ve elapsed .
Opening the Liftg ate Manually E138632 Pr ess the butt on loc at ed in the t op of the liftg at e pull cup handl e to unl at ch the liftg at e, and then pull on the out side handle . With the R emote C ontrol E138630 Pr ess the butt on twice within three se conds.
• The ignition is on and the tr ansmission is not in park (P). • The ba ttery vol tage is bel ow the minimum opera ting volta ge . • The v ehicle spe ed is at or abo ve 3 mph (5 km/h).
E138636 Pr ess and rel ease the lift ga te c ontrol butt on. St opping the Liftg ate Mo vement Y ou can stop the lift ga te mo vement b y doing any of the f ollo wing: • Pr essing the liftg at e control butt on. • Pr essing the liftg at e button on the remot e contr ol twice .
When Opening The s yst em stops when it de tec ts an obstacl e and two short tone s sound. Onc e you r emov e the obstacl e, you can c ontinue to oper at e the liftga te. Hands-Free Featur e (If Equipped) Make sur e you ha ve an int elligent a cc ess transmit ter within 3 ft (1 m) of the lift ga te.
Y ou can use the ke ypad to do the foll owing: • Lock or unl ock the doors. • Pr ogram and er ase us er codes. • Arm and disarm the anti-theft al arm. • R ecall memory se at and mirr or positions. Y ou can opera te the k eypad with the fa ctory-se t five-digit entry c ode.
Locking and Unlocking the Doors Locking All Doors Pr ess and hold 7·8 and 9·0 on the k eypad simult aneousl y with the driver door cl osed . Y ou do not need to ent er a code firs t. Unlocking A ll D oors Enter the f actory-set c ode or your per sonal code, then press 3·4 on the k eypad within five sec onds.
P ASSIVE ANTI-THEFT S YS TEM Note: The sy stem is not c ompatible with non-Ford a ftermark et remo te st art sys tems. Use of these s yst ems may r esult in v ehicle starting probl ems and a loss of sec urity prot ection.

ADJU S TING THE S TEERING WHEEL - VEHICLES WITH: MANUAL AD JUST ABLE S TEERING COL UMN W ARNING Do not adjust the st eering wheel when your v ehicle is mo ving. Note: Make sure tha t you are sitting in the corre ct position. S ee Sitting in the Correc t Position (pag e 140).
End of Tr av el Position The st eering column set s a stopping position just short of the end of the col umn position to pr ev ent damage t o the steering col umn. A new st opping position sets if the ste ering col umn encount ers an object when tilting or t elescoping.

Use this contr ol to adjus t the right side of the informa tion display .
ADJU S TING THE PED ALS (If Equipped) W ARNING Nev er use the contr ols whil e your fe et are on the ac celer at or and brake pedals and the v ehicle is mo ving. Y ou can find the control on the l eft side of the ste ering col umn. Pr ess and hol d the appropria te side of the c ontrol t o mov e the pedals.
WINDSHIELD WIPER S Note: Fully defr ost the windshiel d bef ore you s witch the windshiel d wipers on. Note: Make sure y ou swit ch the windshield wipers off be fore ent ering a car wash. Note: Clean the windshiel d and wiper blade s if they begin t o lea ve stre aks or smears.
Use the rotary c ontrol to adjust the sensitivity of the r ain sensor . Set the contr ol to l ow sensitivity , and the wipers will turn on when the rain sensor de tec ts a lar ge amount of moistur e on the windshield .

GENERAL INF ORMA TION Condensa tion in Lamp Assemblies Ext erior lamps ha ve vents t o acc ommodate normal chang es in air pressur e. Condensa tion can be a natur al by-pr oduct of this design. When moist air ent ers the lamp a ssembly through the v ents, there is a possibility tha t condensa tion can occur when the temper atur e is cold .
Headlamp Flasher E163268 Pull the l ev er to war d you slightl y and rel ea se it to fl ash the headl amps. AUT OLAMPS (If Equipped) W ARNING The aut olamps swit ch position may not activ at e the headl amps in all low visibility conditions, such as da ytime fog.
INS TRUMENT LIGHTING DIMMER Note: Y ou disabl e the manual dimmer when you adjust the s etting t o Aut o Dimming in the informa tion display . See Information Displ ay s (page 101). Note: If you disconnec t the batt ery or it become s discharg ed, the ill uminated components will s witch to the maximum setting.
Type 1 - Con ventional (Non- Config urabl e) The da ytime running lamps turn on when: 1. The ignition is s witched t o the on position. 2. The tr ansmission is not in park (P) f or vehicl es with automatic tr ansmissions or the parking brak e is rele ased f or vehicl es with manual transmissions.
A camer a sensor , centr ally mount ed behind the windshield of y our vehicle, continuousl y monitors conditions t o decide when to s witch the high be ams off and on. Once the s yst em is activ e, the high beams swit ch on if: • The outside light l evel is l ow enough.
DIRECTION INDIC A TORS E163272 • T o opera te the left dir ection indic at or , push the le ver do wn until it stops. • T o opera te the right direction indic at or , push the le ver up until it st ops. Note: T ap the lev er up or down t o make the direc tion indica tors fl ash three times.
Sec ond Ro w Dome and Map Lamps (If Equipped) E199026 The l amps illumina te when: • Any door is opened . • The instrument panel dimmer is adjust ed until the court esy l amps swit ch on. • Y ou press a remot e contr ol button and the ignition is off.
POWER WINDO W S W ARNINGS Do not le av e chil dren una ttende d in your v ehicle and do not l et them pla y with the pow er window s. The y may seriousl y injure themsel ves. When cl osing the pow er window s, you shoul d verify they are fr ee of obstructions and mak e sure tha t childr en and pets ar e not in the pro ximity of the window openings.
EXTERIOR MIRR ORS Po wer Ex terior Mirror s W ARNING Do not adjust the mirror s when your vehicl e is moving. E144073 Le ft-hand mirror . A Adjustment c ontrol. B Right-hand mirror . C T o adjust your mirr ors, switch y our vehicle on (with the ignition in ac cessory mode or the engine running) and then: 1.
Loose Mirror If you manuall y fold y our power-f olding mirrors, they ma y not work properl y even aft er you re-position them. Y ou need t o rese t them if: • The mirr ors vibr at e when you driv e. • The mirr ors f eel l oose. • The mirr ors do not sta y in the fol ded or unfol ded position.
A B C E138665 The ima ge of the appro aching vehicl e is small and near the inboar d edge of the main mirror when it is a t a distanc e. T he imag e becomes l arger and begins t o mov e outboard acr oss the main mirror a s the vehicl e approaches (A ).

MOONROOF (If Equipped) W ARNINGS Do not le t childr en pla y with the moonroof or l ea ve them una tt ended in the vehicl e.
Note: This position helps to r educe wind noise or rumbling which may happen with the moonroof full y open. Press and rel ease the control a gain t o full y open the moonroof . Pull and r ele ase the SLIDE c ontrol t o cl ose the moonroof . Bounce-Back The moonr oof stops aut omaticall y while closing.
