F A STENING THE S AFETY BEL TS W ARNINGS Insert the tong ue into the buckl e until you he ar a distinct click. Y ou hav e not fa stened the sa fety bel t properl y if you do not he ar a click. Make sur e that your sa fety bel t is secur ely s tor ed and is not outside the vehicl e when closing the door .
Pull the bel t out steadil y . It may l ock if you pull it sharply or if the v ehicle is on a sl ope. Note: Some models ha ve a re ar cent er lap belt. Pr ess the red but ton on the buckle t o rel ease the bel t. Let it r etract c omplet ely and smoothly .

PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION W ARNINGS Extr eme Hazard! Nev er use a re arward f acing child r estraint on a sea t protec ted b y an active airba g in front of it. De ath or serious injury to the child c an occur . Do not modify the front of y our vehicl e in any way .
P ASSENGER AIRBA G The airba g will deploy during a signific ant frontal cr ash or cr ashes tha t are up to 30 degre es from the l eft or the right. The airbag will infl ate within a f ew thousandths of a second and de flat e on contact with the occupant c ushioning forward body mov ement.
S witching the P assenger Airbag On W ARNING Y ou must switch the pa ssenger airbag on when y ou are not using a re arward chil d sea t on the front passeng er seat. Failur e to adher e to this warning c ould resul t in serious personal injury or dea th.
The airba g will deploy during signific ant la teral c ollisions. It will also deplo y during significant fr ontal angl ed collisions. The curtain airba g will not deplo y in minor la teral and fr ontal collisions, r ear c ollisions, or ov erturns.
GENERAL INF ORMA TION ON RADIO FRE QUENCIES Note: Changes or modifica tions not expre ssly appro ved by the party r esponsible for c ompliance coul d void the user ’ s authority t o opera te the equipment. The typic al operating r ange for y our transmit ter is appr oximat ely 33 ft (10 m).
2. T wist the scr ewdriver in the position shown t o start separa ting the two halv es of the remote c ontrol. 3. T wist the screw driver in the position shown t o separat e the two hal ves of the remot e control. Note: Do not touch the ba ttery cont act s or the printed cir cuit board with the scre wdriver .
4. Care fully ins ert the screw driver in the position shown t o open the remote contr ol. Note: Do not touch the ba ttery cont act s or the printed cir cuit board with the scre wdriver . 5. Carefull y remo ve the batt ery with the scre wdriv er. 6. Inst all a new batt ery (3V CR 2032) with the + fa cing downwar d.
LOCKING AND UNLOCKING Note: All doors will be aut omaticall y unlock ed when the airbag depl oys due to impact and f ollo wing this the hazard warning fl ashers will fla sh. Po wer Door Lock s (If Equipped) The po wer door lock c ontrol is loc ated on the instrument panel near the r adio.
Reprogr amming the Unlocking Function Y ou can repr ogram the unl ocking function so that all door s will unlock when you pr ess the butt on once. See R emote Control (pag e 32). Locking the Doors Pr ess the butt on to lock all the doors. T he turn signals will fla sh once.
The s yst em will not function if: • Y our vehicl e bat tery has no char ge. • The pa ssive ke y frequencies are jammed. • The pa ssive ke y batt ery is fla t. Note: If the syst em does not function, y ou will need t o use the ke y blade t o lock and unlock y our vehicle.
Pr ess a l ocking button onc e. Note: A valid passiv e key must be l ocat ed within the det ection rang e of that door . One long fl ash of the dire ction indica tors confirms tha t all the doors have be en unlock ed and that the al arm has been disarmed .
Note: Y ou must unl ock your vehicl e in order to open the tail gat e. 1. Unlock y our vehicle . 2. Pr ess the butt on loca ted on the right-hand tail l amp and open the tailg ate .
P ASSIVE ANTI-THEFT S Y S TEM Principl e of Operation The s yst em prevents s omeone from starting the engine with an inc orrec tly coded k ey . Coded K ey s If you l ose a key , y ou can obtain a repl acement from an authoriz ed dealer . If possible , provide them with the k ey number from the ta g provided with the original ke ys.
Trigg ering the Alarm Once armed , the alarm is trigg ered in an y of the foll owing wa ys: • If someone opens a door , the lift ga te or the hood without a valid k ey or remot e control. • If someone remo ves the audio or navig ation syst em. • If you s witch the ignition on without a valid k ey .
Cat egory One A larm Disarm and sil ence the al arm by unlocking the doors with the k ey and switching the ignition on with a corr ectly c oded key within 12 seconds or unl ocking the doors with the remot e control.
ADJU STING THE S TEERING WHEEL W ARNING Do not adjust the st eering wheel when your v ehicle is moving. Note: Make sure tha t you are sitting in the corre ct position. See Sit ting in the Correct Position (pag e 75). 1. Unlock the st eering col umn. 2.

WINDSHIELD WIPER S Note: Fully defr ost the windshield bef ore swit ching on the windshield wipers. Note: Make sure y ou switch off the windshield wiper s before ent ering a car wa sh. Note: Install new wiper bl ades as soon a s they begin t o lea ve bands of wa ter and smears on the windshiel d.
In these conditions, you can do the foll owing: • Lo wer the sensitivity of the aut owipers to r educe the amount of smearing. • S witch to normal or high-speed wipe .
Re ver se Gear Wipe (If Equipped) The r ear wiper will turn on automa tically when sele cting rever se gear if: • the re ar wiper is not alrea dy switched on • the wiper le ver is in position A, B, C or D • the front wiper is oper ating (when set to position B).
GENERAL INF ORMA TION Condensa tion in Lamp Assemblies Ext erior lamps hav e vents to acc ommodate normal chang es in air pressur e. Condensa tion can be a natur al by-product of this design. When moist air ent ers the lamp a ssembly throu gh the vents, there is a possibility tha t condensation c an occur when the temper ature is c old.
High and lo w beam Pull the l ever full y tow ards the st eering wheel to s witch betw een high and low beam. Headlamp flasher Pull the l ever slightl y tow ards the st eering wheel. Home safe lighting (If Equipped) S witch the ignition off and pull the direc tion indica tor le ver tow ards the ste ering wheel to s witch the headl amps on.
DIRECTION INDIC A TOR S Mov e the turn signal lev er in the upw ard or downw ard position. • Push do wn to activa te the l eft turn signal. • Push up t o activat e the right turn signal. Note: T ap the le ver up or down to mak e the direc tion indicat ors fla sh only thre e times.
W ARNING Only us e the front f og lamps when visibility is consider ably r estrict ed by fog, snow or r ain. REAR FOG LAMPS (IF EQUIPPED) W ARNINGS Only us e the rear f og lamps when visibility is re strict ed to l ess than 50 met ers (164 f eet).
POWER WINDO WS W ARNINGS Do not le ave chil dren unatt ended in your v ehicle and do not le t them play with the pow er windows. T hey may seriousl y injure themsel ves. When cl osing the power windo ws, you shoul d verify they are fr ee of obstructions and mak e sure that childr en and pets are not in the pro ximity of the window openings.
2. Clos e the window a thir d time to the point of resist ance. T he bounce-back fe ature is no w disabl ed and you c an clos e the window manuall y . The window will g o past the point of resist ance and you can cl ose it fully . See an authoriz ed dealer a s soon as possible if the windo w does not close a fter the third a ttempt.
Blind spot mirrors ha ve the outboard section of the mirr or that curves a spheric. The y are designed t o increa se your visibility along the side of y our vehicle . Check the main mirror fir st before a l ane change, then check the blind spot mirror .

W ARNING LAMPS AND INDIC A TORS The f ollowing w arning lamps and indica tors will al ert you to a v ehicle condition tha t may become serious. Some lamps will ill uminate when y ou start your vehicl e to make sur e they work.
If the red l amp stays on or illumina tes a fter st arting the engine or while driving, this indica tes an engine cool ant malfunction. St op your vehicl e as soon as it is s afe t o do so and swit ch the engine off. Check the cool ant lev el. See Engine Coolant Check (pag e 134).
Front Airba g W arning Lamp (If Equipped) If it illumina tes when driving, this indica tes a malfunc tion. Hav e the sys tem check ed by an authorized de aler .. Front Fog Lamps Indicator (If Equipped) It will illumina te when you s witch the front f og lamps on.
Safe ty Bel t Minder W arning Lamp (If Equipped) See Sa fety Bel t Minder (page 26). Shift Indicat or It will illumina te to inf orm you that shifting t o a higher gear ma y give bet ter fuel econom y and lo wer CO2 emissions. It will not illumina te during periods of high acc eler ation, braking or when the clut ch pedal is pressed .
Messag e Center Displa y (If Equipped) Sounds ev ery time that the messa ge cent er display s a warning messa ge. Parking Br ake Sounds if the v ehicle's speed ex ceeds the pre-det ermined limit with the parking brak e engag ed. It will stop a s soon as the vehicl e is stopped or the parking br ake is rel eased .

Note: Ensure that the se at and sea t back are l at ched securel y in position. K eep floor area fr ee of objects tha t would pr ev ent proper sea t engag ement. W ARNINGS When f olding the se at back s up, make sur e that the belt s are visibl e to an oc cupant and not caught behind the sea t.
W ARNING Do not plug optional el ectrical acc essories into the cig ar lighter socke t (if equipped). Improper use of the lighter c an cause damage not co vered b y your warrant y , and can r esult in fire or serious injury .

GENERAL INF ORMA TION W ARNINGS Ext ended idling at high engine speeds can pr oduce very high temper atures in the engine and exhaust s ystem, cr eating the risk of fire or other damag e. Do not park, idl e or drive your v ehicle on dry gra ss or other dry ground co ver .
S witching the Ignition On (A ccessory Mode) Pr ess the butt on once without your f oot on the brak e or clutch pedal. It is loca ted on the instrument panel near the st eering wheel. All el ectrical circ uits and acc essories are oper ational and the warning l amps and indicat ors illuminat e.
St opping the Engine When Y our V ehicle is Stationary Note: The ignition, all el ectrical circ uits warning l amps and indicat ors will be swit ched off. Manual Transmission Briefl y press the button. Automa tic Transmission 1. Mov e the transmission sele ctor l ever to park.
Col d or Hot Engine V ehicl es with Manual Transmission Note: Do not touch the ac celer ator pedal. Note: Rel easing the clut ch pedal while the engine is starting will st op the engine cranking and r eturn t o ignition on. 1. Fully depr ess the clutch pe dal.

Y ou must carry out occ asional trips with the foll owing conditions t o assist the reg eneration pr ocess: • Drive y our vehicle in mor e fav orable conditions, which y ou will find at higher vehicl e speeds in normal driving, on a main road or fr eewa y for a minimum of 20 minutes.
S AFETY PRECA UTIONS W ARNINGS Do not ov erfill the fuel tank. The pressur e in an overfill ed tank may cause l eakag e and lead t o fuel spray and fire.
Y our vehicl e is suitabl e for use with ethanol blends up t o 10% (E5 and E10). Long-T erm St orag e Most ga soline contains ethanol. W e rec ommend that you fill the fuel t ank with fuel that doe s not contain e thanol if you intend t o store y our vehicle f or more than two months.
• Y ou may need t o cycle the ignition fr om off to on se veral times a fter refuelling to all ow the fuel sy stem t o pump the fuel from the tank t o the engine. On rest arting, cranking time will tak e a few seconds l onger than normal. W ith ke yless ignition, just st art the engine.
